Today’s title comes from The Vandals album “Fear of a Punk Planet.” One of the true classics, if you ask me.
Doctor update: I have a sinus infection, and the doc put me on antibiotics. I didn’t want to take them, but he agreed to dance around me with a stick chanting the theme to Knight Rider if I did, so we compromised.
I have heeded countless email requests, and I’ve put up an eBay auction. It’s an 8×10 of me in the spiffy red spacesuit. Interesting fact about this photo: it’s the only one of me from TNG that I really like. Of all the publicity photos I ever did, I think I look the least lame in this one. The auction is set for 5 days.
Also, I’ve updated the library selections on the right side over there. I was going to let them stay for another week or so…but when I saw that Hitchhiker’s Guide was out, I couldn’t wait. I am such a geek.
So check it out: if this auction goes well, I can totally buy a GPS, and start geocaching…how cool would it be to make a WWDN geocaching team?
I’m taking the kids to see Spiderman tonight. I hope it doesn’t suck.
Funny, isn’t it? In a post-Episode I world, every time I get excited about a big movie opening, I am reminded of how ripped off and angry I was when I left that movie, and my excitement is tempered…then I recall how much I loved X-Men, and my excitement rises again…and then, while I’m basking in that warm feeling…I remember Jar-Jar, and [whine] “My name is Anakin, and I’m a peson!” [/whine]
Well, at the very least, Kirsten Dunst is hot. 🙂
Oh, and speaking of hot…maybe Episode II won’t be so bad after all. Meow.
I’m off to work now. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Oh, and….GO LAKERS!

I looked at it, curiously. Why do I still have this?
this is correlation, not causation
Just a couple of days ago, I told Anne that though I am always a little sad to wrap a season of Ready Room, because I genuinely love my job that much, I was glad to have the time and energy to do stuff together. It's always so weird how we can live together, sleep in the same bed, see each other every single day, and still miss each other because we're just so damn busy, and going in opposite directions most of the time. I was so happy that she had the idea to go out together, which is something we just haven't done in a long time.
I hated Episode 1, Upset me so much I did walk out on that movie! I will not see Episode 2 unless it is for free, but of course my husband will go see it because he has to hear the musical score and he has to know where the cues on the album fit into.:) He will drag me to see Spiderman soon and I hope it is cool but I have a funny sort of feeling so we will see.
Damn Wil your Ebay really is going for the big time cash, I can’t compete. As emotionally rewarding my job is taking care and entertaining old folks the pay is not that great so it is either your picture or my rent and I have to go with the rent.
Hope you feel better soon!
Parilese,
At least you had the sense to walk out. For the record, I hated Episode One as well. WTF was George thinking? I hated the look of it as well, like a video game. I recently read an interview with George Lucas that he had no idea how widely hated Ep. One was. Well George, welcome to the world!
Spider-Man didn’t suck. 🙂

Take ALLLLLL your antibiotics, until they’re ALLLLLL gone, else you’ll wind up like da Wabbt with an even worse infection that completely closes off at least one side of your sinuses, and that hurts like a **mother**

Geocaching rules!
I just got a Garmin Etrex Vista last week and have gotten 15 finds so far. I found this guy online that got me a copy of the Mapsource software,(Metroguide USA) for a good price. Now that software runs around $178. I am pretty happy about that. Saved some serious coin there. Wil, if you’re looking for a good price on a GPS, let me know. I have several sites that are real good. Also if you need the Mapsource CD. I can hook you up.
Geocaching is the BEST activity ever!!! I love it and highly recommend it to anyone. If you’re ever on the east coast, check out the two caches that I’ve hidden:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=18343
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=15616
BTW, I FREAKING love your site!!!
Hey wil!
You’ll love spider-man!It rocked. I am seeing it again tomorrow!
peace,
Marz
Hey, a geocaching team would be really awesome Wil. You know what would be even better??? A sports team named after you. Hey, guess what??? You do have a sports team named after you. You have a college softball team named after you at the University of Tennessee. And, I sent you a picture of it. Check it out. BYEBYE!!!!
Hey all!
I am also on a quest for a gps…have to work it into the budget, and soon! I want to be on the wwdn team! Oh shit, I suddenly feel like I am in 7th grade gym class waiting to be picked for a dodge-ball team…HELP!!!!! 🙂
Spiderman does not suck… I saw it today at the ArcLight Cinemas, and it rocked!
I just bought a Garmin Etrex Vista, so I’m all ready for the WWDN team. I’m going to look for my first cache tomorrow morning.
Rich, can you hook up us non-famous folks with the Mapsource CD?
HHGTTG rules! I have the audible files read by the author. Gonna check out the DVD..
“Hi my name is JC and I’m a geek..” Hmmmm might need to attend a meeting..
Adios Philly. And The Truth shall set you free.
Mmmmm……. I’ll take B+W Natalie for $200, Alex.
Spider Man did so totally rock!!!!! I went to see it with one of my friends who is so much like u Wil, it’s not funny. We honked and yelled out the window ‘Spider Man Rules!!!’ we then proceded to through fries at passing cars.
Congratulations to Courtney for the Moxy Fruvous quote! Hooray!
Anyways, I gotta agree on Natalie Portman…..rrrrrrowr…..I don’t know when I’ll get to see Ep II though (unless my arts-columnist girlfriend can snag some tickets 🙂
Spider-Man was pretty good. The only bad thing wasn’t part of the movie, it was the assholes sitting behind us and talking about where they were going to go eat after the movie. I turned around and said, “Can you talk about this later?” and they just kept talking. Bitches.
But I liked the movie. It was pretty close to the comic as far as the origin story, just some minor details changed (the spider that bites Peter Parker is a gene-spliced super-spider rather than radioactive, that kind of thing).
Wow, this commentary is a blueprint for why you should dislike Wil Wheaton. Selling off your autograph to buy yourself a GPS gadget makes it look like you are whoring yourself out to the highest bidder. Secondly, Episode 1 was pretty good. Thirdly, I was was more disappointed in X men. Fourth- you are a Lakers fan. nuff said. Fifth- you are a dork. No offense, we all know it, and if you are comfortable with that, good for you.
Don’t feed the trolls.
On topic: I hope Spidey is good cause I organized a trip out to see it tomorrow for our gang.
And let me add to the “get well soon” wishes. It really sucks to be sick.
Since it’s two am here I think I ought to go to bed, night all.
Best. Movie. EVER!
I have tiny, petty, fan-boy complaints, but overall I just LOVED it.
I’ll go on and on about it on Monday, so I don’t ruin it for anyone.
Oh, and let’s not talk about swapping software here, okay? I’m pretty sure that’s not legal and whatnot. 🙂
Wil,
I still carry a towel with me when I travel.
You never know, you know?
Feel better. :o)
of course, sinus infections totally blow. (ha.) but really, i hate them. and i’m gonna agree with the anti-anti-biotics folks around here – i’d much rather let my body take care of it on its own.
ALSO, spider-man fucking RULED. 🙂 it was so awesomely awesome. it thoroughly rocked my face. one can never go wrong with the amazing power duo of attractiveness that is tobey maguire and kirsten dunst. they both gave me a total boner. 🙂
(oh, and hello, first post from me – i’m from the mike doughty bbs. i’m the girl that emailed you about it in the first place. :))
Wil,
I’m glad the film received a positive review! I will be seeing it this weekend and can not wait! Tobey Maguire is sublime — he does understated so well…he just “is” Peter Parker. AAAAA! Isn’t a thrill watching a *good* flick? Oh, I love movies so! (Alright, enough! I sound like a dork.)
the guy who owns natalieportman.com lives down the street from me. really.
The Lakers will fall to my MIGHT SAN ANTONIO SPURS. That is all.
Wil:-
Cool, I may have to go see it. Didn’t really have any interest before, but, dude, when Wil Freaking Wheaton recommends something…
My only hope is that your antibiotics kicked in a bit before the show, so you didn’t interrupt your neighbors with “SNNNNNNNNORT *cough* *cough* HACK sniff” the whole time. I hate it when people would do that, which would force me to hate Wil Wheaton. Nobody wants that to happen.
for some strange reason I have heard reference to spiderman too many times this week. I like your site.
Wil,
Hope you’re on the mend…sinus infections and antibiotics go hand-in-hand…glad your doctor persuaded you to take ’em. Also, this geocaching thing DOES sound really interesting! A good way to get people out of the house and into the beautiful GREAT outdoors!
I intend on seeing the Spiderman flick tomorrow with friends…I’ve tried to keep myself from watching any previews or what-not… 😮 )
GO SPURS GO!!
Take care,
Mark
Greetings!
You will never guess how I stumbled onto this site. I was google-izing the phrase “wheat grass,” and this link popped up. (it honed in on “Wheat”…not sure how the “grass” part got in there.)
Being one of those “old-time” Star Trek fans, I had to take a look. What a hysterical site. Wil, you definately have funny–oh yeah, you got funny.
However, when I saw that pic on Ebay, it reminded me off a chant we used in college when watching reruns (and drinking beer) of the original Star Trek…
“Character in Red will soon be dead.” Remember how an “away team” would be sent off, and the new face, or “character in red,” would always seem to perish…
Oh, about the sinus infection–here is something you can try. Neti pot. No, no, nothing illegal involved. However, it is a bit gross. I won’t put the details here…just Google-ize it!
Another thing is using essential oil of lavendar and rosemary to clear the passages (rub on temples and around nose–warm baths/showers are good as well). Some nice yarrow tea would help, too.
Disclaimer: I am a stay home mom, not a medical doctor–so use above advice at your own risk. You can add doctors with sticks singing the theme to “Welcome Back Kotter” if you need some extra umpfh!
Great site, Wil. I’m adding it to my list of favorites…
Now, on to find some wheat grass for real.
Peace,
Kimbo Burly
I really liked Spiderman, too.
All I will say about it is that it’s nice to see a movie based on a comic that the makers of the film read, liked, and knew.
In fact, not only did I catch WHICH comic they were referring to, but the “What If” comic it eventually inspired.
Joygasm!
SPIDER WHOOOOOOOO?
And to think all this time I thought Unka Wil
was on top of his game!
SPIDERMAN..blah…And no this is not trolling.
just a HONEST opinion.
And yes I come here ALL the time.
Spiderman was a great movie! Wonderful story that was easy to follow and actually
seemed “believable” (as opposed to say, Batman).
Get well soon!
GPS UPDATE: I bought a GPS on Ebay, but the seller hasn’t seen fit to reply to any of my emails in the last 24 hours.
Funny thing is I told loren that I’d buy one, and as soon as I bought it, someone would offer to hook me up with one on the cheap, and that is exactly what happened!
So a very cool reader offered to send me his GPS that he doesn’t use anymore, and another reader offered to hook me up with his old GPS on the cheap.
So I go from 0 to 3 GPS possibilities in about 26 hours. How cool is that?
The building of the WWDN team will commence shortly.
I don’t know how true this is but apparently Leonardo DiCaprio was originally offered the part of spiderman, and he would only except if he didn’t have to wear the mask.
The point of a super hero is that he is a normal person until……
Anyway, Spiderman rocks, even at the grand age of 21 I still try and watch the cartoons when I can. Roll on the release date in UK.

The Vandals song is about Small Wonder, the TV show from the 80s that featured a little kid who was the living embodiment of small Billy Corgan. Meeting BC it is all you can do to keep from saying, “hey, aren’t you the kid from Small Wonder” just like Jerry O’Connell used to get “hey, aren’t you the fat kid from Stand By Me” at NYU (I saw that more than once)…
Beastly_spike said: “I don’t know how true this is but apparently Leonardo DiCaprio was originally offered the part of spiderman, and he would only except if he didn’t have to wear the mask.”
That’s so stupid it’s probably true.
What happened to your LA Kings? Better luck with the Lakers. WHo do you think is going to win the Cup? Ottawa all the way!
That guy in the red spacesuit looks like a punk. Too much attitude.
SPIDER-MAN ROCKS!!!
It did NOT suck!!!
As I was asked by two guys who were in line to wait an hour for the 4:50 show… “was it better than the first Superman?”
HELL YES!!!!
Go and enjoy!!! Summer blockbuster season has started!
***THE BEEJ***
Oh, you were not lame. Quit fishing for compliments. 😉
I had a GPS. Sold it. Should get another to try geocaching. It’s actually rather like what my friends and I came up with where we drive to a spot, then call everyone with the coordinates and see who can get there fastest.
And about the antibiotics, they’re evil but necessary sometimes. Having spent a good chunk of April in hospital in agonizing pain that the *wrong* antibiotic made worse was not fun. But it was more fun once they realized, switched the antibiotics and were able to do the surgery I needed. Now I have one more surgery on May 17th and after that I should be the healthiest of Mistys.
What’s with the fake-looking tan in the ebay photo?
Thumbs up for the person who quoted Moxy Fruvous.
Barking Dog: Nice photo of Natalie Portman (yum). Check out this still of Kristin Dunst as Mary Jane: http://www.eatoutgoout.com/Spiderman_Images.asp?PIC=31
That would get spidey’s senses tingling.
Having just watched Jay and Silent Bob, I have to say that NEITHER comes close to being as sexy as Eliza Dushku.
Can’t wait to see Spider man AND Episode II. Indeed, it is a good month for movies. And today I get to say May the Fourth Be with you.
Hi Wil!
I think the pic of you wearing the ‘real’ TNG uniform is very cool. Too bad that I can’t find more photos of it over the net. It looks better than this blue overall which zipper couldn’t be totally closed at the backside… (however, during the tng-series you looked best in ‘The Game’) :))
When I watched X-Men and professor Xavier I had always Captain Picard in mind. Much because of this it was a good movie, there’s not much difference in both characters. Now I’m looking forward to the sequel and spiderman. The first part of ‘Blade’ was also VERY hot (although thats 4 years ago…)!! SW:’Episode 1′ was a desaster….I hope the second part will rehabilitate it!!
By the way, do you like music from ‘linkin park’?? “A place for my head” RULEZ!! 🙂
far out
still waiting to be picked for the team….damn this evil gym class 😉
Just saw the movie…
Yup, it rocked.
A few minor comic-book-guy quibbles (which I won’t repeat here, since we’re saving the “the lone gunmen are dead” until Monday, I guess…), but the effects were awesome and the story was more or less true to the original.
Afterwards, in the mens’ room, I overheard the following exchange, which pretty well sums up the “relationship” part of the movie:
Guy at 1st urinal: So… didja think it was cool?
Guy at 2nd urinal: Yeah… [thoughtful pause] He shoulda f@#%ed her, though.
Guy at 1st urinal: Yeah.
Hi Wil,
Just read about your auction and your geocaching plans?
Maybe next time, you should not auction your photo, but the GPS coords of the photo?
Regards
That’s a good idea. I’ll stick one of those silly trading TNG cards in a cache sometime.
Heh. 🙂
Is it just me or did Wil look 35 in that TNG picture? anyone, I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Hitchhiker’s movie, if it’s the same on I own. It’s pretty bad. Done in that “70’s sci-fi” style where every ship is done in vinyl siding, for some reason or another. It’s a little nostalgic, and kind of cute if you’re a die-hard, but it is over-all dissappointing, and for some reason goes through a bit of the second book as well.
Sinus infections suck, I just got off one. From what I’ve been hearing around here (central KS), its going to be a bad year for allergies. Good luck with it all.
Spiderman ROCKED. It was SOOOOO close to perfect and Roger Ebert just doesn’t GET it. Feel better Wil.
