Fifteen minutes before Katrina Relief tournament number three begins, here’s a quick look back at Katrina Relief tournament number two.
The final table included two friends of the blog:
1. darth_forte (Crofton, MD)
2. kkalin (Sterling Hts., MI)
3. 4_2_it (Huntingdon Valley, PA)
4. chico6y (Basel, Switzerland)
5. Saturn21 (Ottawa, ON, Canada)
6. FF07 (Bowie, MD)
7. spurgehogan (Arlington,MA)
8. GoodRev42 (Santa Ana, CA)
9. yestbay1 (Grapevine, TX)
yestbay1 is a longtime reader, fellow actor, and all-around supercool guy. Congratulations, DW! Also, GoodRev42, who is a fellow Metroblogger (he writes for The OC Metblog, but I won’t hold that against him) busted me out, follwing in the footsteps of stardawg, who busted me on Monday, and went on to finish second in the $5 tourney. The moral of this story is: if you bust me out of a Katrina Relief tournament, you will make the final table.
I’ll be live blogging the action in tonight’s $50 event over at CardSquad, for anyone who is interested.
And the whole reason we’re doing this is kicking ass. Our two events so far have raised $51,581.00 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. A whole bunch more will be added tonight.
Excellent. That is just great. Congratulations and lets keep the money flowing for those people of Hurricane Katrina

Hey Wil,
I played in the first 2 tourneys and it was a whole bunch of fun. Although in the $20 tourney I was at a table with someone who went all-in every hand and it feckin riled me, but then once I was busted out, (Damn Hilton Sisters), I chilled and thought that, well I was prepared to pay the entry fee and not play anyway so I really can’t be too pissed.
Anyhoo, reason for the post….um…….no idea!!!
I’m glad you arranged these tourney’s since it let us from the UK help and I wish I had the cash to play in the next 2. I’m looking forward to the WWdN tourney whenever that may be. Maybe when it’s arranged the fee could go to some charity since I’m sure most of the readers would prefer a signed book, or something like that instead anyway.
Chris
Thanks for the kind words, Wil! I had a hella fun time in the tourney, and the fact that we have raised so much money for the hurricane victims makes it doubly sweet.
Final table – woohoo! I’m still trying to come down from the rush. ๐

Thanks again for helping make this happen.
I would never have known about it without your blog.
It was the most fun I have ever had playing poker.
I still can not believe I made it to the final table!

Somehow I mixed up the days and missed the $20 tourney. My only consolation (well… huge consolation) is that the money went to a good cause. Huge thanks to you for setting this up and to PokerStars for matching. Still, I am so effing pissed at myself for missing it. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to punch myself in the junk.
Thanks for organizing these tournaments Wil. I played in the $5 & the $20. I managed to finish 96th in the $20 … woohoo top 100.
Do you ever play with us cheapskates in $1 SNG land ?
Hey, Wil! Sheesh, my final table was with both of these guys! They were good solid players, and I enjoyed being at a table with them. Now, if I had only not chased that last flush draw…;*)>
Hey fferret… I feel your pain! ๐
It was a very fun tourney … ended up placing 48 which was very nice considering my inexperience in these types of tourneys. Unfortunately my position relative to the sitters didn’t let me rake in their chips like some of the others.
Very nice to play with all you at that table.

Wil –
I was at the table when you got busted out. You may have seen me — I was the short stack (a familiar position for me). I got busted out soon after you when I went all in with Kings and two, yes two, people made their club flush draws on the river.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know I had a great time.
Hey Wil!,
I also want to say, the cause was great, and the play was fun.
After getting busted out on the first hand in the $5, and finishing at 2174, I had a great rebound, and managed 34th in the $20.
I hope we NEVER have need to play one of these again, and can just play for fun.

I managed to finish 163 out of 2212 on the $5 tourney.. and totally missed the $10 tourney. I don’t have enough $$ to play the 50 or 100 tables.
I *am* however watching a TV show called “Hold Em Fold Em the World of Poker” and it’s featuring Wil pretty prominantly. Including Jeff Gordon and Evelyn Ng. Our Wil is a rock star in the world of poker!
Hello all, sorry To post this twice
I’m Back Up. I like to thank each and eveyone who help’d in the storm recovery. And to the men and wemen
who brought in the basic supplies to live, and all who brought the power back on.They did some
great things here. I also like thank all the families of thoses men and wemen for the time they gave to
us,in the many hours put in to restore my city. I live Just north of New Orleans in The City Slidell.
The out reach of help by strangers across the City and across the Nation brings me to tears…..
My tears go out to those who were hit harder than I.
Thanx
Jerry
Thanks for all your effort organising these!!
xlmtfgc on PokerStars.
Played the $20 tournament. Finished 22nd.
Strangest tourny ever. For the first (forever) it was just Rev (who knocked you out) and me and 7 players “Sitting Out”. For these kind of events, it would be nice if there was some feature to get rid of players if they never take their seat. Just donate their money.
IMHO, charity events should be on the “Turbo” blind schedule. Might not be a problem for you west coasters, but just getting down to the final 3 tables, it was 12:30 a.m. in the east.
Hi Wil,
You and Anna did a good thing here. Keep up the good work.
