It’s the second act, which is where the stakes are typically raised for our heroes, there’s a death or betrayal, and we’re not quite sure how the good guys are going to prevail …
How much do I love that YouTube picked the Lando Calrissian toy display as the screen capture? A lot. Not the most, but still a lot.
And now, some sad news: Part 3 was never completed. Here’s a link to the audio used in this recording. I think you know what to do.
(Link to part one. Massive thanks to YouTuber amity1976 for making both of these videos.)
Something tells me that part 3 will be made, soon enough. But YAY! to you, Wil, for telling the story, and YAY! to amity1976 to YouTubing it.
This is one of my favourites; I’m taking a couple of the books “out into the wild” today. I’ll post to the Flickr group later.
Yes, part 3 was not finished because…umm…Jawas stole my computer? Yeah, that’s it! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
However, a wretched hive of scum and villainy is on the case…we’ll see what develops 😉
I posted links to both your part 1 and part 2 entries on my personal journal, because almost everyone I know is the right age to appreciate the story and the video. My husband still has his Star Wars action figures/vehicles stored in our closet right this very minute. He was shopping for his stuff in 1978, so was too old for the Lando Calrissian-era figures, but he still identified with your essay. A little too much. Except that you were more secure in your masculinity as a boy than he was, because he refused to own a Princess Leia figure at all. At age eleven, he could never have owned a GIRL
dollaction figure. LOLOne of your best stories and the videos are nice. I had an official carry case, not the 3PO one, but the one with pics form Empire on the cover. I saved my pennies and looked at it at our local variety store for weeks. It currently holds all the knock off guys I’ve found at yardsales over the years that I’ll let my nieces and nephews play with.
This Christmas all my nephews received Star Wars figures and I watched them play with such jealousy and happiness, because I’m probably one of the only adults in the room who understands the amazing worlds that they are creating.
I also had an amazing conversation with a 6 year old who could not believe that I knew the name of his Star Wars guy and proudly took me to his room to show me the rest of his collection. I invited him to come and see mine and as I described it there was this amazing look of awe and respect in his eyes. It was a connection that I will not soon forget.
Sir,
This book I have to admit has been one of the few books that I have read that is not fiction. And I am so happy to have done so. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Frankie
part 3’s in the works…i’ll let you guys know when it’s done (probably next week). I have “Bespin Leia” and her gun pointed at me as motivation.
@amityisland: Thank you! I was already trying to figure out if I had time to try to make my first ever vid in response to this lack in the universe, but I’m so grateful to leave it to a master. Thank you, thank you, thank you! *anxiously awaiting part three*
@tanyak: my collection these days is small, but my young nephew recently informed me that I could ‘beat Yoda’, so I must be doing something right!
And lastly, Wil-thank you so much for sharing this. As someone whose Chewbacca figure died a horrible death that scarred me for life, I grok this. Just…grok. That’s all.
And we have a conclusion!
enjoy 🙂
