Holy Crap, I'm doing a weekly podcast again! Welcome to Memories of the Futurecast!
This is going to be fun and awesome: Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm going choose something from one episode, and perform an excerpt for you. It will mostly be from the synopses, which is where I think the real humor of the book lives, but from time to time, I may work in some things from the other parts.
Two important things:
- This does not mean the book comes out in 13 weeks. It comes out much sooner than that.
- These are not excerpted from an audiobook. These are recorded specifically for this podcast. I'm not sure if I'll do a full-length audiobook, yet, but I'm open to the idea.
Episode Notes:
- The Memories of the Futurecast works hard to earn its [EXPLICIT] tag. You have been warned.
- Memories of the Futurecast Episode One contains an excerpt from the synopsis of Encounter at Farpoint, (Part 1).
- This week's episode is exactly 9 minutes long. I considered holding it until 9/9/09, but I was afraid the resulting mathematical nine-ness of the whole thing would be, well, a goocher.
- Memories of the Futurecast Episode One weighs in at 9.2MB
Thanks!
One nitpick of a synopsis detail, just because it clashes with one of my vivid memories of originally watching the episode: John de Lancie was actually wearing not a WWII uniform but a present-day U.S. Marine Corps officer’s uniform, which for better or worse made it appear TNG was commenting upon Oliver North, who had just become infamous for his televised and newsmagazine-cover-making appearance wearing that very uniform to testify before Congress in the Iran-Contra investigation a couple months before TNG’s premiere. In fact, Encounter at Farpoint completed filming 12 days before North’s testimony so it’s unlikely TNG’s creative team could have anticipated the iconic impression North was going to make, but many reviewers and commenters assume to this day it was intentional parody of him.
I so can’t wait for this book! Bring it on!
PS-saw Old Baldy this weekend. He killed, but not as much as the Trek Trak director did for asking the man himself about sponges. wh00t!
Wil, you continue to rule my world!
Love it! Please do episode 2 soon. :3
Loved the intro music, same they used for the deceased EGM Live, oh the memories.
Did they really?! That’s hilarious.
I just took some royalty-free incidental music that came with Garageband and used that.
I really am glad we’re best friends. This was awesome, thanks!
Holy crap, that yielded far more cackling than I had expected. I think I’ve got a date on Lulu with your PDF book and my pocketbook within the next week.
Easily one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
You, sir, are a genius. Nuff said.
