Memories of the Futurecast: Episode Six

Holy crap! It's time for Memories of the Futurecast.

Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm choosing something from one episode, and performing an excerpt for you. It will mostly be from the synopses, which is where I think the real humor of the book lives, but from time to time, I may work in some things from the other parts.

Two important things:

  1. This does not mean the book comes out in 13 weeks. It comes out much sooner than that. In fact, it is available right now! Woo!
  2. These are not excerpted from an audiobook. These are recorded specifically for this podcast. I'm not sure if I'll do a full-length audiobook, yet, but I'm open to the idea.

Episode Notes:

  • The Memories of the Futurecast works hard to earn its [EXPLICIT] tag. You have been warned.
  • The theme song is Mister Fancy Pants, by my friend Jonathan Coulton. It is from his fantastic Thing A Week (my fingers autotyped "Thing A Geek" just now. Heh.) and is used under Creative Commons license.
  • This week I read some of the synopsis from Where No One Has Gone Before, also known as "that one with the Traveller."
  • This week's show weighs in at just over 18MB.
  • This week's show is just over 19 minutes long.
  • Garageband still refuses to let me embed artwork in the MP3. Feel free to grab the image from this post and use it, if you need it to go with all your glasses and your shoes, so you have them.
  • Memories of the Futurecast doesn't have anything clever to add this week, it just hopes you enjoyed listening to it and will consider picking up the book.
  • Yeah, that's right, you can buy Memories of the Future Volume One for just $19.87 RIGHT NOW! YAY!

  1. I had to do two different versions of Sunken Treasure to account for some sizing issues, but the content is the same. There is just one version of Memories of the Future, which should be printed in whatever country you place your order.
So, to answer more simply: as far as I know, there won’t be increased shipping charges or delivery times to non-US buyers. If there is, it’s a Lulu thing, not a me thing.

  2. Book ordered!! …not that I was sitting around, refreshing your blog, waiting to pounce on the link as soon as it came up. Not at all. I was just…oh hell. I was. I admit it. Is there a 12-step program for being addicted to your writing?

  3. “Order Status: PAID”
Awesomeness! I’ve been looking forward to this one since we talked about it that day at UCLA.
(And I totally dig that Lulu sends a thank-you.)

  4. Yay the book is out! Darn, I live on a college campus and Lulu does not recognize my address. For now can’t order but hopefully I will be able to soon.

  5. Ordered, looking forward to arrival – but was hoping there would be a don’t-have-to-wait e-book option as well…
Still – congratulations on the birth of your latest!

  6. I am excited about this. I needed something to look forward too. Now we have a new book AND you on Big Bang next week. I am so happy! It was a funny thing though, I was bopping around over on Digg as I normally do and there was an article called Top 10 reasons why Stand By Me was cool. It was a good article and the comments were fun. Someone mentioned you being one of the reasons the movie was cool and I got to remind everyone your new book was out! I have to share the news because it would be wrong to keep something as cool as your new book to myself.

  7. Downloading podcast now and buying the book while I wait, first time using Lulu. One quibble though, was wanting to get Sunken Treasure as well but that put postage to the UK at a whopping £80 so left it for now. Hopefully I will be able to read along to next week’s podcast!

  8. “Memories of the Futurecast doesn’t have anything clever to add this week” Lies! The entire episode occurs one week in the future, that is clever. (Thanks again for making these, Wil). Book is ordered. Looking forward to it.

  9. Oh for fuck’s sake.
My poor brain is trying to do too many things at once today. Please enjoy the temporal anomaly in my head.

  10. wil, long-time listener, first time caller.
will you have copies of the book with you at w00tstock san francisco? i’m super excited to read it, but i wont order it now if i can buy it from you directly in a week…

  11. Sorry to be a pain, but that doesn’t seem to be available any more. Tried searching for it but only get the US edition. I know there’s a downloadable version of it but would much rather have the physical book. I will get that downloadable version if all else fails mind.

  12. *giggles* This episode was naughtier and dirtier. I would even say naughtier and dirtier than “Justice”. So appreciated.
I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!

  13. That’s so weird. I’m sorry it’s not working. Maybe bug Lulu Customer Service? I can get the link to appear on my machine, so I can’t even help you troubleshoot.

  14. Thanks for the help anyway. I’ve e-mail Lulu and I’ll see what happens there. If it comes to it I will buy the downloadable version anyway. Still, will have Memories to enjoy. Thanks again.

  15. Coulton’s pants song is even funnier in the UK because over here “pants” mean underpants.
Heh, your impression of Worf sounds more like Henry Rollins’ impression of William Shatner. (Look up Talk is Cheap Volume 4 if you can)
Have ordered the book! (although Lulu’s shipping charges are still rather high so for the next volume I’m probably going to wait for the ebook. At least the cover price is properly converted)

  16. I gotta tell you, I’m loving these Futurecasts, and now that I’ve ordered my copy of Memories of the Future Volume One, I’m a very happy Danyiel. Thanks for all of the awesomely goodness, Wil, and keep it coming!

  17. And now…now I can die happy, having heard the “It’s Your Birthday” Wesley hostile takeover. LMFAO!
Oh, and I also did “not purchase” the book.

  18. If you’re this funny when you’re not 100%, I’ll remember to keep food and beverages in the other room while listening to your podcasts. Book ordered… can’t wait for it to arrive!!

  19. I just want you to know that listening to the podcast as I was driving in this morning, I almost crapped a brick because my anniversary is on the 19th and I thought I had forgotten it. So, in the temporal anomaly in your head, my wife is mad at me.

  20. How am I doing, coach?
    NOT GOOD!
    Awww…
    COME ON, PICK YOURSELF UP!!
Okay coach…can we have a pizza party?
    PIZZA PARTY PENDING!
ROFLMAO, Wil! That little bit that you did had me DYING! The funniest thing about it? The Coach sounded a lot like Worf! I wonder if Michael’s heard this yet and came to the same conclusion.
    *Phone rings*
Hey Michael, how are you doing?
    NOT GOOD!
    Awww…why?
BECAUSE YOU IMPERSONATED ME AS AN ABUSIVE COACH. VERY POORLY!
Okay Michael, calm down. Want to go get a pizza?
PIZZA PENDING! I HAVE TO PEE!
Okay, maybe I’m just easily amused, but I found the split personality Wil/Coach bit to be very funny.
