50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

the one from christmas eve

  • WWdN in Exile

I can’t believe it’s already Christmas Eve. It seems like just a week ago, there were six shopping days
until Christmas . . . where does the time go?

Anne and I finished our shopping yesterday, including a frenzied trip to the mall, where I learned that people who waited until the last minute to buy clothes aren’t exactly rational when the store doesn’t have the size they wanted, and tend to freak out at the cashier, as if the cashier conspired to keep that pair of size four jeans available until seconds before Angry Shopper wanted them.

I also learned that there is some serious plague out there in the shopping areas, because I woke up this morning with a bitch of a sore throat and a pretty severe sinus thing. Merry Christmas to me.

The kids are with their dad tonight, so Christmas won’t actually be Christmas until they get home tomorrow afternoon (parents will understand what I mean, you non-kidlet-having types may not, but that’s okay, because it’s Christmas.) Tonight, we’re headed up to my mom and dad’s house to have dinner with them and my siblings. Chance of watching A Christmas Story is set at about 99%.

I hope everyone who celebrates it has a very merry Christmas. For everyone else, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. And to everyone, regardless of anything, I wish you all the peace, prosperity, and joy the world has to offer.

Aw, my sympathy with the sinus troubles. I have been that way this entire week and feel like my nose is a leaky faucet.
    Thanks for the warm wishes.

I know about “Angry Shopper” all to well. I work at a Borders and people seem to have the distinct impression that I was hiding books from them. But tomorrow I’m with the family and all will be well. Merry Christmas Wil, and good luck with the throat. I’ve come to find that a little OJ does wonders. Have a good one!

Merry Christmas to you, Wil, and especially to all ’empty nesters’ on this day. When it comes right down to it, it’s all about family, isn’t it? Our family makes a point of including at least one ‘orphan’ in our Christmas celebrations, because we know how lucky we are to be all together at this time of year. Being able to share that with others is a gift we give to ourselves, as well as to them – I highly endorse the practice!
Enjoy your family today, and enjoy your boys even more tomorrow. Your blessings are many!

Merry Christmas to you to Wil and family..(that includes all the family pets) I’ll be going to my brother’s house to drink, eat and take lots of pictures of the family. The best gift I got from my fiance was 1-3 seasons of SLIDERS on DVD. My poor tapes are just worn out from watching them so many times…Time for me to have a SLIDERS-thon, don’t you think? Happy Holidays to everyone!

You mentioning your kidlets just brought on a huge lighbulb in my head. Never put the connection together in all the months I’ve been reading your blog.
Kidlets = Nolan and Ryan. Hmmmm. Parents are baseball fans!? Or just coincidence. Can’t believe I’ve never put that together.

I am offically and ex-cashier. I have been chosen for a new job in which I will not have to sign a paper that says I’m part time seasonal, then be forced to work full time. Having said that, I feel I can fill you in on the hardships of a cashier.
However, if you tell anyone that it was I that shared the most sacred and secret details of the Association, you will disappear and will not be heard or seen from again.
Awe the Association. How I don’t miss it. We, the cashier’s, have a very difficult time looking the customer in the eye and saying, “No ma’am. I don’t know the price of this obscure item that I didn’t even know was in the store. No ma’am, I cannot hold up the line and walk all the way to the back to check on the price of this obscure item that I didn’t even know was in the store because chances are, it was on the wrong shelf in the first place and I’m not about to wander all over the store to try and find the right price. Take my word for it, your son isn’t going to like it anyway,” when really, what we want to say is…”Awe. So you have taken the bait have you? *insert evil laugh here*”
As cashier’s, it was our jobs to track certain customers and use our telepathic abilities to find out exactly what it is they want and quickly cloak all products that are EXACTLY what they want or that would fall under the “Good Enough” catagory, then fien innocents at the register.
It was a tough, demanding job (and the pay was poopy), but as members of the Association, we did our jobs proudly. Yes, the tired, We-Don’t-Give-A-Rats-Tush-About-You-Or-Your-Problems looks was hard to learn and took months and months of intense training. 85% of all hopefuls don’t make it past the first week. *sad nod* Indeed, most fail. But a select few, the elite of the elite, make it through to be the cashier you look at from across the red laser…I mean scanner and ask, “May I borrow your pen?” after you’ve just sneezed and coughed all over your sweaty, germ encrusted hand.
Had you any idea what was really going on in our heads, you would never speak harshly to us or blame us for something that could not possibly be our fault again. (and that parts true)

I managed to get through christmas WITHOUT being forced to watch ‘A Christmas Story’ this year.
    yes, Yes, YES!
That’s the best xmas present of all. Cue the dance of joy.
Ok, I totally lied….my new son Malcolm weighing in at 8lb 13oz Born on Dec 12 at 10:03 am is the best present of all. Babies rock.
