50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

WWdN podcast idea

Posted on 1 December, 2005 By Wil

I am a big fan of the Family Guy Freakin’ Podcast. I love hearing the people who create the show talk about how they do it, and it’s especially awesome to hear how much they obviously like each other, and the work they do.

Near the end of the podcast, they always answer some listener e-mail (I sent one last week; I don’t know if they answered it or not and they totally answered it on the podcast for Fat Guy Strangler, and they didn’t even make fun of me. Freakin’ Sweet!) and it’s always funny and informative.

So I thought, "Hey, I can be funny and informative, and I want to do a podcast . . ."

So let’s give this a try: Send me a question or comment, and I’ll respond in a podcast. It’ll be sort of like Ask Wil Wheaton Anything but you listen to it and it’s not at Slashdot. It will either be really cool, or the stupidest fucking thing in history, and I’ll proceed accordingly.

Questions or comments can be sent to ask at wil wheaton dot net. When I have enough questions to fill about seven minutes of podcasting, I’ll produce and publish it.

UPDATE: Wow. A bunch of questions have flooded in today, and I already threw away a podcast that was over 40 minutes long where I tried to answer them all. I mean, I think I’m a swell guy and all, but forty minutes of me rambling on is about 32 minutes too much.

So I pulled out a few that I think I can give interesting answers to, and I’m about to start recording them. I should have Radio Free Burrito Episode Zero up in a few hours. Huge thanks to everyone who has sent in questions. šŸ™‚

Considering how quickly you sold out of the autographed copies of your book, I’d be willing to bet you’ll have passel ‘o’ questions in a fairly short time.
I’d ask one, but I have this tendency to not know what to ask until after Q&A events are over.

Oooh I bet Fitz would love to hear that you love his podcast!
I’ll think of some good questions to ask ya.

Watch this space for a tear jerker of a post where Wil confesses for the Nth time that he embarked upon to many projects and that he has to go back to what is really meaningful in is life.
I feel cynical today, can you tell?
    Good luck with the podcast.

    Aw, that’s so nice, Korbussa.
Tell me, do you often walk into someone’s house and insult them?
    Or am I just lucky?

    Um, Wil.
Okay – gonna keep this simple.
How do you create a pod to cast. Just use any free recording software and post a .wav or .mp3 file?
I may be good at Quantum Substraight Injection Probability Formula (Okay, I suck at that too actually), but creating podcasts eludes me.
And nice house you got here… ;>

Will we be allowed to ask geeky questions like… in TNG episode #13, what was the actual warp core temperature? *nerdy giggle*. Podcasts will be way cool.
BTW – Family Guy – “Do you think he’ll mind if we put this pickle right here on the couch?” LOL!!

I want to see a podcast joining WWdN and Jesus’ Favorite!
W:Everybody wants to have sex with me because I’m a ball of softness!
    A:Boo. Bitty boo.

That would rock Wil! Maybe you can comment on the ‘Spawn of Crusher’ pic on the Thinkgeek.com website!

Thinking cap’s on. I just listened to the Family Guy podcast where they mentioned you. And I agree with them; send in an audio podcast!

hmmm ask Wil anything – why does my mine go completely blank of questions to ask when given a chance?? anyone else have this problem or just me??
I’ll come back to this – I’m sure I can think of something stupid to ask like maybe one of my UF’s QOTD

See, the problem is that in your various books and blog posts, you’ve really answered so many questions already. We all know about William F Shatner, we know about your family, we even know a bit about Annie.
Maybe the trick is to not podcast about *you* but about something you love?
My favourite podcasts are ones where someone gives their own unique insight into something they know a lot about: the bike courier culture in San Fransisco or a gamer talking about the ins and outs of a new game he’s trying.
Maybe you can talk about an interesting thing you do, like what is it like to prepare for an ACME show, or to get into character to play Aqualad…

Wil! I would totally have happily listened to the whole 40 minute shebang! But I suppose I can understand the urge to go with quality over quantity. Can’t wait to hear your podcast!

yay, sounds fun! šŸ˜€ i’ll hafta think of a question to ask you… will prolly wait till after i hear the first podcast though šŸ˜‰

I can’t wait to see if my question got picked. XD It’s like the lottery!

  18. June says:

    Also, it’s good that you’re going to be selective… I think a 40 minute Q&A is a BIT much.

    Two things, Wil:
1)I’ve been hoping for a long time that you would do this! I enjoyed your audio blogs, when you still did them, and I can only believe that this will be even better!
    2) I’d never seen that “Spawn of Crusher” pic until I just followed that link. Holy crap, that’s one scary lookalike!

Have you considered doing a video podcast? Some of us with faster connections have no problem downloading larger files, and a video podcast would be wicked good. Anyhow great job on the first podcast, and I think the length of 25-30 minutes is just right.

You’re right Wil, it’s not the kind of thing I would/should say to a stranger, only to a friend. And I’d probably sugar coat it a bit. šŸ™‚

    Sorry I missed this Wil.
I hope to catch the next one šŸ™‚ I’ll think of a good question (or try to) in the meantime šŸ™‚
