I’ve added one final convention to the 2008 convention season. In two weeks, I’ll drive up the 5 to Sacramento to appear at a an old-school Horror/Sci-Fi convention called From the Land Beyond.
This looks like a smaller show than the ones I’ve been at recently, but it also looks like the cons I loved so much when I was a kid: there’s a movie room, where they’re screening everything from classic episodes of Star Trek to classic horror films like The Hills Have Eyes. There are some very cool guests, a few panels (I’m on a panel called Star Trek through the years on Saturday), gaming, and a costume contest.
The Details! Let me show you them:
Friday and Saturday, September 26-27
6151 H Street
Sacramento, CA 95819
(Across from Sacramento State University)
I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday (the show switches gears slightly on Sunday and becomes a comic convention) with the usual assortment of books and pictures for people who want them. This will be the last chance to get 2008’s chapbook, Sunken Treasure, if you care about that sort of thing. I think there are about 50 left after PAX.
Unlike shows that seem designed to take as much of your money while giving you as little as possible in return, this looks like a bunch of geeks getting together to goof off for the weekend, which is what conventions are supposed to be about. It’s cheap, too! If you come on Saturday only, it’s $10. If you come for Friday and Saturday, it’s just $15. That’s less than you’d pay for some jerk’s totally awesome book, you know.
I think some jerk with a totally awesome book should jack into the Vegas Valley Book Festival this November. Ican guarantee you will sell and sign at least one book. 🙂
Aw! Out of the depths of the stupidest day ever you just totally raised my spirit man. Will you have copies of Happiest Days to sign?
You think you can make it to DragonCon next year? That would be great.
I’m stoked that you’re coming to Sacramento. I’ve been watching your con attendance all summer with a slight bit of envy at all the fun you were having. And I admit, I coveted one of the chapbooks.
But now you’re coming to Sacramento! Woo and hoo!
I’ve already bought my pass.

Wil, what are the chances that you would visit Toronto for a con next summer? I’m all for nagging and pressuring the organizers but it’d probably make more sense to ensure you’d actually travel all the way to this other country we call Canada before doing any of that. You seem to prefer the ‘close to home’ venues….
Subtle plug. This time it stuck. I just bought one.
Dude!!! Wil is coming to my town, to an event a few blocks from my house, on my birthday. How cool is that!

Damn you Wil Wheaton! I won’t be moving to Alameda until a week later!!! You better not start doing signings in NYC now.
I just want to know if you’re going to make it to Penguicon in ’09 so I can finally meet you.
We could still stand seeing you at CONvergence in the Twin Cities. You could make a side trip and visit us at FFG.

If you want to get in some gaming on any of the nights feel free to contact me. Otherwise, check out Great Escape Games, which is pretty close to the Scottish Rites Center and is open until Midnight. There are some great places to eat near the Scottish Rites Center including Jack’s Urban Eats. Eastern Kingdom, corner of Howe and Fair Oaks is a great Chinese buffet place that does a cook to order thing. Highly recommended. I have to admit to being stoked about your making it here to Sac. I started checking out your blog because of it being mentioned on Scalzi’s blog. Great stuff and hoping to see you after my game session on Saturday.
And here I thought that I was just going to be completely unlucky with conventions this year. I am SO there and I’m bringing a posse.
I will do my best to contain my fangirlish glee, and not make my voice go to that register of canine only sound.
However, I can make no guarantees.
If you make into town on Fri. you could always go to see RHPS on the big screen.

Other than that I will definately see you at the Con on sat.

As a Scot, I’d just like to point out that Scotland has precious little to do with the Scottish Rite. Just wanted to point that out.
Definitely awesome you’re a guest at the convention! It is quite a small place, which is not bad unless the fans go crazy in the hallways. It still should be a really good convention and I’ll be there with a friend of mine.
