my shirt.woot fails its saving throw

  • WWdN in Exile

I don’t know why, but Woot never e-mailed me to tell me that my shirt design was going into the Reckoning, and it slipped to number 22 when I wasn’t looking. I was told that I’d get fair warning before it was in danger of being Reckoned, and I’m pretty pissed that that didn’t happen. In fact, I’m so upset that nobody bothered to warn me about this after I was told they would, I better not say anything else that I’ll eventually regret.

Anyway, the bottom line is: I guess that means that my How We Roll T-shirt will go away and never be available again after midnight Central time tonight, so if you wanted to buy one, this truly is your last chance.

2d6+4 to save: okay here we go

I got mine for my 30th birthday! Is it horrible and selfish that I am kind of excited to be one of the few people who will own this shirt? I’ll wear it to PAX to console you some. I’ll also be wearing it because it’s totally awesome.

So…a little confused. You created the design right? Did you grant them copyright ownership, or a limited license. I guess what I am getting at is, why can’t you just release the shirt through another group, like say, http://zazzle.com or http://cafepress.com ?

  4. JeffD says:
    20 April, 2009 at 2:36 pm

Sorry to hear, Wil. I just ordered one for my friend’s son. He’s the only person in our 4E group that doesn’t have one. By the way, the shirt is good for the dice mojo too. I won’t play without mine on.

Mission accomplished, sir. One cool shirt headed my way.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking why the hail mary purchase? But I am only ankle deep in the techno world and I just got my credit card. This was my very 1st online purchase… EVER!
Pen and geeks are ludites and every bit as devoted as regular technogeek fans.
I shall were this on my one year blogiversary on May 2nd while consoling myself with an Arrogant Bastard Pale ale that I can not share it(anniversary)and/or ale) with you at penguicon.
    JeffD, that’s good to know:)

Just ordered mine. By our powers combined we will save your shirt, Wil! Also, super cool. Wish I had known about it earlier.

  7. Jameson42 says:
    20 April, 2009 at 2:45 pm

I got mine the day it released. Love it!
One question though: Why no d10?

  8. Wil says:
    20 April, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I thought the d10 looked way too much like a d8. It was a visual design decision.

  9. Jameson42 says:
    20 April, 2009 at 2:48 pm

I can accept that. Maybe if I wear it at a con I’ll attach a real red d10. 😛

That sucks. I’d get one if I could afford one, but I’m flat broke. =(

    Dude, that is lame-o.
Glad I already have mine, and thanks for signing it at Emerald City Comic-Con.

  12. guntharr says:
    20 April, 2009 at 2:54 pm

P.S. You were hawesome at ECC. You show how much you care about your fans, and you treat everybody the way you’d want to be treated as a fan. Hawesome.

  14. Chris says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Well, I’m certainly glad I snagged three on the first day they were available. One was for myself, one was for my 18-month-old daughter, and one was for my brother (the creator of Gold: The Series — http://www.goldtheseries.com ), who actually wore his in an interview done with Broadcast Assassin about Gold (you can see the interview at http://www.broadcastassassin.com/news/?p=224 if you are so inclined).
    Thanks for the great design.

Heh. I’m geeky, but I’m not THAT geeky, not even in my dreams.

  16. shrikezero says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I bought the shirt, but I have a question. No where on the site does it mention if the shirt is open source. If I give you credit can I wear it with jeans?

  17. melanie says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:16 pm

    Dude. Weak.
P.S. what does that mean, “The Reckoning”?

Ha! Chris — I had no idea you’d gotten one for Madison. Awesome. Yes, as I tweeted, I got mine from my brother (see above) and did my best to make it web-tv-geek famous by wearing it during that Broadcast Assassin interview. It actually just occurred to me that I’m wearing it in the GOLD video that drops this weekend, too.

  19. shrikezero says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Okay seriously… this ploy of last-minute doom worked wonders on my wife’s grip on the budget. Could you put a post up that Happiest Days is doomed if I don’t buy it by midnight? And there’s some stuff at ThinkGeek that I would be much obliged if they could get the doom treatment as well.

  20. montecook.livejournal.com says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:22 pm

That’s too bad. I’m really happy to have one of them, though. I just wore it yesterday while running my bi-weekly D&D campaign.

  21. Wil says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I don’t even have the words to express how happy that makes me, Monte.

  22. melanie says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:29 pm

OK just bought mine. May be the last thing i buy from that site, since obviously, they are kinda flakey. Oh well. that’s the only cool shirt they have anyways. 😀

  23. Jon Snow says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Hey, Wil, I tried to get tix to see you at the LA Festival of Books, but your panel is sold out. Will you be doing any signings or booth appearances?

  24. LaineyJane says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:31 pm

🙁 Thankfully I just got mine…sending out to my friends… Here is hoping for a last minute HM.

  25. Irishgirl says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:33 pm

That’s weak, but thankfully I got mine. Unfortunately it arrived after you were at the ECCC. =( Its totally cool and I LOVE the way it fits!!!

  26. smarier says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Thanks for the notice on this. Just ordered mine. I didn’t know what woot was at ECCC, but after seeing your shirt I took a look at woot. Then at Norwescon I saw a whole bunch of them, was going to order one after that (but of course forgot). Well at least I finally did it.

  27. Cheeser says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:41 pm

I bought mine the night it came out, overnighted it, and wore it to my first ever RPG game night. It is a great shirt.
Why are you upset tho? Were you hoping to keep it from dropping off by blog-persuading more purchases?

  28. flashdim says:
    20 April, 2009 at 3:47 pm

Thanks for the heads up, bit the bullet and bought one for the wife before it’d be too late. Her response: “Aaaaw, you bought me a Wil Wheaton shirt!?!”
    Women, am I right?

  29. Scratch2k says:

I already have my “choose your weapon” shirt for 4E games, but variety is always good, Ordered!

  30. Ken Clark says:
    20 April, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Does that mean mine is now a collector’s item? ;P
I wore it to Megacon here in Orlando, Fla. and got more than a few compliments about it.

  31. Kistenjunge says:
    20 April, 2009 at 4:32 pm

I ordered mine more than a month ago but my precious still hasn’t arrived. Maybe it’s because I’m in New Zealand… I’m extremely worried :-(.

  32. sylenctone says:
    20 April, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Oh damn, sucks to hear that! I wore mine Saturday for our D&D game and our DM was asking me about it. Sadness. I hope I can get a hold of him before time runs out! It’s one of my fav gaming shirts.

  33. Queen Anthai says:
    20 April, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Just bought mine! I’ll be wearing it the day I finally get to start a long-awaited campaign.

  34. TwitterNovel says:
    20 April, 2009 at 5:48 pm

Come ON, shirt.woot, drop an email now and again!
Thankfully, I got mine within the first 20 minutes it was posted. I wear it all the time, and I was happy as anything when an engineer/gamer I work with took one look at me and simply said “You win at Geek.”

  35. Charles Starrett says:
    20 April, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Thanks for the warning! I just ordered mine and plan to wear it when I GM for my kids’ first RPG. Your blog posts and podcasts with PvP/PA inspired me to start a game for them and my kids are very psyched for it. Thank you for the inspiration!

  36. brigand13 says:
    20 April, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Thanks for the tweet!! I’d figured your shirt would be around for weeks and weeks, so I hadn’t jumped in because I missed the initial $10 offering. Glad I didn’t miss the genuine article completely. My t-shirt collection would have been sorely incomplete.

    20 April, 2009 at 6:23 pm

Boy, do I feel lucky! I bought one as soon as I saw your first post about it. I had bought my brother a PA d20 shirt (I roll twenties), but I wanted to let my geek flag fly at our next D&D get-together. I got it, and we showed up wearing our geek cred proudly. Thank you, Mr. W. I hope this puppy comes back to life like Jim Darkmagic!

  38. Eisoj5 says:

Picked up one for my husband as a surprise (ironically. We’re about to embark on a diceless campaign.) Thanks for the reminder, sorry it’s going away 🙁

  39. al.everett.myopenid.com says:
    20 April, 2009 at 6:36 pm

    That sucks.
Except, well, I got mine when it originally hit Woot. (I’ve even been complimented on it.)

  40. Factoid says:
    20 April, 2009 at 6:44 pm

Shirt.woot.com every so often goes through and delists shirts that aren’t selling well. It’s sort of like Thunderdome for t-shirts…only the strong survive.
Wil is pissed because he was supposed to get a heads up that his sales were dropping so that he could plug his shirt online or at a few cons or something to boost the numbers.
Once you drop out of the top 20 you’re done.

  41. Factoid says:
    20 April, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Here’s what you do Wil…Change the D6 to a D10, change the colors up and relist the shirt under the title “Critical Mass”

  42. melanie says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:00 pm

AH i see. I’d be pissed as well. HOWEVER, this post DID inspire me to go buy one, so perhaps there are more like me and we can save the shirt still. i hope so. that shirt rules. i even paid extra to get it TOMORROW! 😀

  43. Chachel Doozer says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:23 pm

Two shirts ordered. The s/o and I were geeking out over your shirt at ECCC but didn’t think to ask about it. Bummer I had to find out this way.

  44. Wil says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:23 pm

What?! It’s sold out? That’s crazytalk.
I’ll be in some booth somewhere when it’s over, but I don’t know where. When I find out, I’ll mention it on Twitter.

  45. Wil says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:29 pm

No no no. They’re not flaky. I’ve really loved everything about doing business with woot until this thing happened.

  46. melanie says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:39 pm

ok, well maybe i won’t completely write them off. … especially if you use factoid’s idea to revamp it and sell it again. …. only different. all sneaky-like.
    i supremely endorse this concept.

  47. Lexi Luthor says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:42 pm

I love your shirt! I have been wearing mine as part of my Rollerderby uniform, since my team is the Lightning Fists of Science, and we welcome any geek/nerd/science shirts. 🙂
On a side note, it was great meeting you at Emerald City Comic Con – have you been to see any rollerderby yet?

  48. ksmiller.clavid.com says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:45 pm

I just ordered mine. I didn’t order one the first time around because I’ve not been able to find a gaming group in forever, but the temptation of exclusivity (the sudden Reckoning) and zero shipping overcame my initial apprehension.
Sorry about not getting one before it was on the chopping block though.

  49. ScottyMet says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:53 pm

I ordered one before, and have been wearing it regularly to my various D&D games. My group really likes it. A particular medicated product I use caused the collar area of the shirt to discolor, though. So, I ordered another one. Let’s see if we can pull it up in the rankings again. Even if we can’t, it’ll be very cool to own another one.

  50. Grace says:
    20 April, 2009 at 7:54 pm

Seriously, we tried to get tickets for your panel within the first 3 hours they came up and they were all gone! Sorry to hear that shirt.woot didn’t follow through on their word. That really bugs me. Will check Twitter for your whereabouts this Saturday!
