50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

oh yeah, this is totally +5 to sexterity

  • WWdN in Exile

Just in case you haven't seen it …

Congratulations to Felicia, the cast of The Guild, and everyone else involved in the creation and production of the Do You Want To Date My Avatar video. Ever since I saw a rough cut of it while we were shooting season three, I knew it was going to be a huge success (I made a note there, but I seem to have misplaced it. Dang.) so it's tremendously exciting for me to watch it take off like it has.

If you want to have a copy of it for yourself, and you want to support everyone who makes The Guild possible, you can buy the single at AmazonMP3 for 99 cents
and it's also available from .

Season 3 of The Guild premieres on XBox Live on August 25, and it hits MSN/Zune on September 1.

Wish I understood what this thing was all about! Must say, I wouldn’t want to date Felicia or her avatar but I’m into guys so that might have something to do with it, lol.

Loved the vid – it’s happily sitting on my Iphone. Can’t wait for S3 – and not only because a certain someone makes an appearance!

Been unemployed for almost five months. Living on Diet Dr. Pepper and Doritos to stave off the migranes. Many days I don’t bother to shower cause I’m not going outside.
This video reminded me that I am not alone in my head!
Holy cow, I’m not joking. Hepl.

It’s a great video. Showed it to my other half yesterday who loved Felicia in Dr Horrible, but whilst she enjoyed it she didn’t quite understand all the references and such like. Showed her S1 Ep1 of The Guild and she was hooked 😀 Now getting to work my way through the Guild again with her!

    I’m doing my part!!
I’ve had that song stuck in my head for two days now. My iPod is getting tired of playing it. 😉 What an awesome lead in for Season 3. I am *totally* excited about it.

I’m SOOO looking forward to Season 3.
And the video is totally viral, more than 400,000 views in less than 24 hours.

    Dearest WHil WHeaton,
Sorry to be off topic but I thought this would be the best place to ask. Yesterday on Twitter I noticed a tweet of yours mentioning that a paperback of Just a Geek was available. Do you know where I could buy this from? Thanks!
Also, everyone should buy the MP3 and Video of Date My Avatar. The video is amazing and hilarious and the song is so catchy, you’ll be lucky if you stop singing it for a WEEK.

The publisher told me that JAG will be available from the usual online outlets and brick-n-mortar stores before the end of the month.

Wil, I just want to say THANKS for introducing me to The Guild. I know you have mentioned it on your blog many times, but after this video I decided to check it out. As Bladezz would say: O. M. G. I just sat here and watched ALL season 1 & 2 episodes, and am now in withdrawl and can’t wait for season 3, and to see YOU on the show. Wish I could fastforward! I’m like half in love with Zaboo, for some crazy reason, lol.
Wil, I love your blog, and it has introduced me to so many cool things I can’t count them all. You rock! \m/

To briefly join Jon in Offtopicland,
Is there any chance that Happiest Days or Memories of the Future will see a Kindle release? I’m loving reading JAG on my Kindle, and would really enjoy experiencing more of your writing that way (or with the new paperback, will we see a JAG recall? forsooth!)
On topic, what a lovely video 🙂 I’m really excited for Felicia and crew, and for season 3. Thanks for sharing!

The “tank and spank” is my favorite shot from the video. I’m so looking forward to S3, and in the meantime am rather obsessively watching this at work.

Wil, I can’t wait for the new season and to see you in it!
Off topic: I just saw a Robot Chicken about ST:TNG where they totally rip on how the writers (and Rick F—ing Berman) couldn’t figure out how to deal with Wesley’s character… I was hoping it was you voicing Wesley in the skit but no..I’m a bit peeved Seth did not call you up to have you work on that.

I just went through one of the worst weeks of my adult life (so far, anyway). I buried my best friend & partner in crime for the past 20 years on Monday and I was just so down in the dumps about it because he was only 34 years old and I absolutely loved him, and still do. When I lost my brother Frankie 7 years ago this December, that’s the only other time I ever remember being this sad about a death. But this made me laugh so hard! Very contagious, too. I’ve had it on repeat on iTunes since yesterday. My Twitter buds and me have been sending the link back and forth all day today and we’re already calling it the pseudo RickRoll because we keep changing the urls with bit.ly and tinyurl and totally pranking one another with it, only we leave the video play all the way through because it’s so great. My friend Jason totally would have loved this if he had lived to see it. Best song/video ever!

Wil…sorry for the off-topic comment. I couldn’t see any other way to contact you other than in the comments.
Over at Den of Geek, they had an article about the costume design of Deep Space Nine.
    http://www.denofgeek.com/television/300681/design_appreciation_the_costumes_of_star_trek_deep_space_nine.html
Near the end they talked about bad costumes, including “…Jake Sisko was an active member of the Wesley Crusher Crimes Of Fashion Fan Club”. 🙂 Thought you might want to know.

Man! That ROCKS totally. Jees Will, you’ll drive all your male followers away from your blog to follow Felicia if you’re not carefull. You are certainly dealing with an incredible amount of talent on that show. Stand by for another wave of fame, kid, that video is SO RIGHT for this time and place. “Hanging out in my MMO” – what a brilliant line, and so well timed and presented. Curses to Amazon for not allowing non-US people to download MP3s. I predict that The Guild will be bigger than LA Law if the video is anything to go by.
    Kindest regards,
    Tim.

I’m sorry to be the Debbie Downer of the party, but I have to say that as a female gamer and geek, I’m not completely thrilled with this video. The lyrics are witty, the song is catchy, and the video is well produced. That being said, the vacant femme-bunny stares and cleavage tracing hand gestures from Felicia aren’t earning her any cred in my book.
I’m no feminist, but I am disappointed that an otherwise clever, groundbreaking show is playing the sexed-up female front-person card to promote itself and attract new viewers. It’s hard enough for many women to be treated as people and not just gender representatives (read: as equals) in the geek/tech world, without crossover shows like The Guild reinforcing expectations that in addition to “proving” to males they are competent, they have to also use sex appeal to gain acceptance.
I realize this is just a silly music video, and ultimately (perhaps sadly) a smart marketing angle to gain exposure outside of the gamer world, but it also panders to the lowest common denominators of how society values and presents “popular” women. That’s something I wouldn’t expect from The Guild.
Felicia has a unique opportunity to be a positive female role model to many girls who are trying to be accepted in an already male dominant cultural niche. I’d hate to see her sell out to what society at large deems appropriate and squander that.

Cute video, nice implicit satire, and the dancing looks good. Eyes popped out for the rightmost dancer, also seen in black and sepia on the right during Blade’s cutscenes — serious hottie.
Seriously, I posted a link to this on FB, it’s spreading like wildfire. I hope it drums up business.
Anyway I can deal with my mom’s WOW addiction?

Finally, I got to see the video and listen to the song in its entirety. Catchy, funny, and clever all in one! I’ll definitely be buying the MP3 and video in the near future.
I am also asking for the books for Christmas this year. I just don’t know if I should get print or audio. What do those out there in WWdN world think?

thanks for posting this.. .it’s been on my “replay until nausea sets in” list. So far, so good.
And I think the tallest dancer is absolutely beautiful, as long as we’re rating them. 🙂
Watched all episodes of The Guild yesterday and today.. great stuff. So glad there are creative people out there and that we have a medium for them to share their work.
