a happy accident

A few months ago, a casting director needed to get a picture of me with my luxurious beard. Since I haven't had any headshots taken since I grew this magnificent beard, my son and I took my camera out onto the patio so he could take a quick picture that would be good enough for e-mailing on short notice.

While we were getting the shot set up, he was fooling around and took a picture of just my arms, folded across my chest. We laughed a bit, and I didn't think about it again until I'd uploaded the pictures into iPhoto, and they stacked up on top of each other the way you see here.

I didn't plan for it to end up this way, but I think it looks cool and weird, so I thought I'd share.

    Longest Torso Ever.
Maybe the stretchiness can get you a gig as Reed Richards in the FF reboot. 😀

Excellent beard. My facial hair growns in sporadic patterns.

Damn you sir and your ability to grow an awesome beard. Some of us are not so lucky.

Wil, if you’re one of those people who sometimes takes more than one shot of something…just to make sure you get one good image, then you may also have taken some “accidental stereo pairs.” Like the two images viewed at one time in a Viewmaster or any antique stereoscope, these images can sometimes be properly lined up to create a 3D image. Someitmes I go through my friends’ online files and look for these pairs. It always freaks them out when I can make a 3D shot from two that were never intended to be stereo. As long as the camea moved slightly to the left or right without moving too far up or down… the conversion is possible.

Wil, can I put the top pic on your wiki page info box? The one that is there now is from 2001.

Good luck doing anything to correct or change my Wiki entry. I’d LOVE to get it cleaned up and modernized, but I can’t seem to navigate the bureaucracy.
But more to the point, if you wanted to take a picture from my flickr page and put it there, I’m okay with that, as long as there’s attribution.

    Wil,
Thanks. I’ll check out your flicker page and see what I can find. Maybe something with a smirk… 😉 Hopefully I can wend my way through Wiki’s Fair Use requirements for photos, upload it, and give credit where credit is due.

Wil, do I have your permission under the GFDL to post this picture on Wiki? Right now they consider it just released for Wiki use, not the GFDL.
    Danke 🙂

How is it that you manage to make being a geek so cool? Because that’s a seriously cool picture!

P.S. Coincidence or not that you look about as tall as Frakes in this picture? There’s the beard, the height, the impish glint in your eye…all that’s missing is a trip to Risa, a horga’hn and some horny Risan women.
