Holy crap! It's time for Memories of the Futurecast.
Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm choosing something from one episode, and performing an excerpt for you. It will mostly be from the synopses, which is where I think the real humor of the book lives, but from time to time, I may work in some things from the other parts.
Two important things:
- This does not mean the book comes out in 13 weeks. It comes out much sooner than that. In fact, it comes out October 13th. Nyahh.
- These are not excerpted from an audiobook. These are recorded specifically for this podcast. I'm not sure if I'll do a full-length audiobook, yet, but I'm open to the idea.
Episode Notes:
- The Memories of the Futurecast works hard to earn its [EXPLICIT] tag. You have been warned.
- The theme music for this show is from Jive Ass Sleepers' album Gettin' Down to Business. The track is called Private Eye.
- I think this show is a little quiet. I think I know why, but it's too late to do anything about it.
- Yeah, I mixed the music near the 6:40 mark poorly. You didn't miss anything, though. Aren't you glad you're not paying for this?
- This week, it's The Last Outpost! Yes, the introduction of the most intriguing enemy ever, plus Chinese Fingercuffs! There may be technobabble. You have been warned a second time about something unrelated to the naughty bits.
- Memories of the Futurecast is loooooong this week: almost 25 minutes.
- Memories of the Futurecast is tubby this week: almost 12MB.
- Memories of the Futurecast congratulates the Dodgers on winning the NL West, despite doing their very best not to over the last two weeks.
- Memories of the Futurecast is not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue.
- Memories of the Futurecast promises not to bug you to follow it on Twitter.
- Memories of the Futurecast isn't even on Twitter.
- Memories of the Futurecast misses HOBO DARKSEID on Twitter.
- Memories of the Futurecast is done talking about Twitter.
- Memories of the Futurecast wishes Garageband would hurry up and mix the damn show so we can post it and stop adding to this list, already.

(It used to say Four, because I had a temporary case of the stupids. I fixed it, though.)
So many great references here! “It’s only a model.” “Flying monkeys from the Wizards of OZ.” “Ugly bags of mostly water.”
Great work with the podcast; I love this series and can’t wait for the books either.
Since you are openly soliciting promotion for the book and podcast, I don’t feel bad bringing up a great little podcast called JR Watches Star Trek For the First Time. (Yes, long name, but quite descriptive) http://jrwatchesstartrek.blogspot.com
They want to help promote your new book and are dying to figure out if it’s possible to get you on the show, or even just a sound bite. Unless, that is, you’re too big a deal for some little podcast. (See what I did there?)
Normally I would NEVER talk about another show on this forum, but you asked for promotion damn it! Alright, now I feel awkward…
BALLS!!!
Waited until today to listen to this so that I could properly enjoy it, and I’m glad I did. Nice to finally hear that Wesley spiel (about paternal!Picard and the death scene and the “how he’d save the ship” technobabble) in audio form and not just read it. Lovely! Thanks for the gigglesnorts!
You and Armin Shimmerman should get together to bash this episode. My understanding is that he played Quark only to try to make up for how horrible The Last Outpost is. Now there’s a conversation I’d like to hear!
p.s.-the Lucas thing? Sweet.
Oh, and the tweet/spread the word mission?
Consider it done.
Wil-
Real question here. Will the Lulu book be available in the UK? I’m thinking I read “yes” somewhere, but since I’m about to blog this release for UK-based SFX magazine, I should make sure, no?
Thanks! I’ll send you the link when the blog goes up!
Yes, it will be available worldwide, as far as I know.
Hey Hwil,
I can’t seem to find any information about pre-ordering/ordering Memories of the Future. I already know I want to buy it and there’s $19.87 sitting around here with your name on it. I’m just wondering if you have any further details about when it will ship/arrive for those of us on the East Coast who may be trying to game our Netflix queues so we can get the first couple of discs of TNG Season 1 around the time we get your book.
Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks! Just wanted to check. Occasionally, I totally screw up as an American blogging for a British mag, so I like to check these things! I’ll likely write this this weekend, actually, as I got caught up on another project today, but that means it’ll probably go up on Monday or Tuesday on the site, which should help for publicity anyway, so it works out. Thanks again, and I’ll send the link along when it’s available.
Devon Cream FTW, but with croissant and marmalade???? Patrick Stewart would never make such a mistake. It’s a good job they don’t get the internet down in Devon, or they’d be up in arms. Devon Cream goes with scones and jam!
Wil,
I just wanted you to know I am really enjoying these podcasts. I am currently teaching English in France for the school year and your Memories of the Futurecast makes me laugh outloud while listening on the train. Although it makes me look like a crazy person to all the French people around me, it is in fact keeping me sane w/ some much needed geeking out (in American English no less!) Thanks so much for releasing these and please keep them coming!!

Great podcast! I’m glad that my husband and I aren’t the only people who make up lyrics to instrumental-only theme music. most of what we come up with would join your podcast in the [EXPLICIT]-tagged category.
We’ve tried it with TNG, DS9, and Voyager. The DS9 music has mostly confounded us. TNG and Voyager lend themselves quite nicely to creative lyric-writing.
Blog is up, Wil. Hope I didn’t disappoint!

This episode does not show up on my iTunes with the others… sad that I haven’t gotten to listen to it until now, because it makes with the awesome. Wheaton Win.
Wil, what IS the music at 6:30? Sounds like movie soundtrack kinda music but can’t place it.
Oh and if you were to do the MOTFC books as audiobooks, my brother and I would both buy them. There’s some free market research for you. 😉
It’s some kind of orchestral theme that comes with one of the Garageband Jam Packs.
