50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

i have the heart of a dragon (no, really, i do)

  • WWdN in Exile

Home from GenCon.

Happily exhausted.

I killed a dragon with one hit.

Now, it's time to sleep for two days.

Dragonfish maybe. No way to kill a dragon with one hit…unless it is a nuke. 😉
Anyway, how many dice did you get?

I woke up at nearly 2:00 in the afternoon and honestly thought it was morning. I love you GenCon!

About ten pounds. I'll do an official weigh-in when they get here (I had to ship them)

My roommate should have dropped by a golfball-sized green d20, though I’m sure that flagon of dice and many others top it.
Can’t wait to see the dice pics.

Yeah, I crashed Saturday night and slept for nine hours, sound as a stone. Best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages. Already looking forward to next year’s GenCon!

Thank you for the chapbook and signing it for my friend. You were great to chat with really quick. I hope you come again to Gen Con just to play games next year. BTW, thanks to you TD will be sold out for the next two years at least with you playing it.

Those slide boards are tricky too. I’m impressed.
Your talk was incredible. The family stuff ended up making me cry. Thank you.

How many times have you gone to GenCon?

I was hoping Trevor from WotC would stop by and show you the Fourth Doctor he received from a friend (drawn by me) cos I know you’re a fan, but I know everyone was super busy. At least fun was had by all. And no SDCC-like stabbings, right? 🙂

Gen Con this year was orders of magnitude better than last year. I played a pickup game of Vampire: the Masquerade where the ST never even got to roll to attack. And that was BEFORE you signed my dice bag!

This was my first trip, and definitely not my last.

Everytime I saw you, you were just leaving to go somewhere else. Thus, I never got to give you my dice (which was bought because you inspired me to give RPGs a try after a bad experience in high school made me swear them off for 10 years)…will you be accepting any via a mail campaign?

Wish I had been there to ask a few questions on behalf of my company, but family drunkeness ensued and my sitter had to be arrested o.O Hopefully you come back next year and we can setup something in the brand new press room.

So sorry I missed you… I was TOO busy running games and hoping you MIGHT just get a chance to get in one of them OR hoping that Andrew would swing you by after hours. I wanted to at least roll some Zombie Dice with you, if not some Munchkin. The FEW breaks I got during the day were too short to get into line. Oh well, maybe next time.

Some pictures of Wil and his Staring Contest win from the guy behind them in line, note not me but a good friend of mine took the pics and its his blog. 🙂

Sorry I missed you while I was shopping for gifts for the kids. I managed to score an awesome painting for Rory and a special game for Nico I can’t talk about right now 🙂 It suuuuure is awesome though 🙂

Thank you! A short and plain text which every German can understand without Google. Lol. Sorry, I was just kidding. I can understand you. I felt really exhausted 1 week ago. I slept for 3 days. Another question: Why do I live in the fucking Germany? I miss the whole TNG crew. I’m a student and so I can’t pay the flight at the moment. The flight costs more than 1200 Euro. That’s a lot, I didn’t want to buy the airplane. Maybe in 2-3 years when I have money again… 😉

Glad to hear you enjoyed your GenCon! Your tweets and those from folks near you made me jealous as hell. Jealous enough that next year I’ll probably have to go.

I came right from GenCon back to my job of… planning conferences and conventions. (Yay?)
But GenCon was way more fun! No stuffy academics, there!
I’m glad to hear you had such a good time. It was really fun to read all of your triumphant tweets!
It was a real pleasure to meet you. I’d also like to thank you again for the message for my Navy pal. Hopefully it will help to ease the sting of having had to go out to sea the week before GenCon. (He has reported in the past that there is at least one D&D group, though he’s never said whether he’s ever joined in.)

Looking forward to having you back next year!

I had a “I’m really meeting Wil Wheaton” moment, and forgot so many things I had intended to say. I think I managed a quick, thank you for what you do for gaming which is so important to me.” Which I guess is really the real point.
I noticed those LONG hours you guys were signing, I hope you had a chance to really enjoy GenCon. There’s more than I can cram into 4 days and I’m not sitting there signing for those hours.
Anyhow, great speech, and it was really nice to meet you.

By the by, I *finally* watched your episode of Eureka (S04E03 – “All The Rage” for those of you who haven’t seen it). It must have been soooooo much fun to work on what is, so far, their most Romero-esque episode! 🙂
GRAAAAARRRRRRR.. I’M GOING TO KILL YOU, FARGO!

Hey Wil! I’m really sorry I missed you at Gencon. I got so busy rolling dice that the lines had been blocked off before I could come by and have you sign my little Moleskine.
It was cool seeing you and the Guild cast hanging out with us geeks, though.
    Aeofel lives!

Just got back to my home in California about an hour ago. Had a 6:30 am (eastern time) flight back and then a 2 hour drive back from the airport.
I Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your panel, you totally scored a crit! And your tangents are awesome. Thanks for making up the time on the end after the late start.
I laughed. I cried. I bought the chapbook.
p.s. – Can’t wait to see the dice picture!

    Will,
I didn’t get a chance to meet you at Gen Con, but I did see you staying late on Sat afternoon for some fan pictures and signings. I thought that was very cool of you. Since you were so cool to your fans, your dinner at the airport was on me.
    Best wishes,

Take good care of those cursed dice I gave you. Hopefully, they’ll give you better luck than they did for me. XD
And I’m so glad you enjoyed Gen Con. Please come back, because once the convention center construction is finished, I bet it’ll be bigger and better than ever!

I signed for six hours Friday and Saturday, and didn't get to play games until late at night. If I get to go back next year, I'm going all four days, and spending one full day just playing games.

  31. Wil says:
    9 August, 2010 at 2:20 pm

I wondered who bought my dinner.
That was incredibly kind of you, until-recently-anoymous-benefactor. Thank you so much! I was so tired, I could only eat half my pizza, so I gave the other half to Dave the Game and his girlfriend, so your kindness went even farther than you planned.
    Stay awesome.

This year was my first GenCon. I hung out with my boyfriend and his buddies, it was totally awesome! In one White Wolf game we played, the b/f was a creepy old British guy with an unnatural fixation on my hair. It was a lil creepy, but super hilarious! Can’t wait for next year!! 🙂

Yesterday I got to play my first 4th Ed. game, just wanted to thank you (and those that made it possible) for the inspiration the DnD Podcasts gave, they made it possible to get 6 people togheter for a great time on the last day of our summer vacation.
We dedicated the game to Aeofel and yes, we did slay that tiny dragon in his name, he died so other would be inspired to try it out and our DnD newcomers were the first to ask when we could get togheter again 😉

All thanks to Aeofel, Jim, Omin and Binwin, so thanks again and I’m glad to hear you had a wicked trip.

    *Jim Winks!*

I thought your presentation at GenCon was very nice. The bits about your relationship with your kids were my favorites.
My son is a gamer and my oldest granddaughter is a fan of TBBT and Dr. Who and most other geek interest movies and TV. The younger one is working into her nerdiness slowly but it’s coming. The almost 3 year old’s name is Beck d’Artagnan Optimus Prime Morris–no kidding.
So, we are spreading the geekness around as much as we can.
    Peace,
    Ann

I think it was very kind of you to sign items that people brought themselves for free. I will cherish that dice bag.
In other news, the Gaming Monkey card for Geek Fight is pretty much finished. We just need the art and we can send it to the printer (it will be a foil card). Thanks for letting us use the idea.

It was nice to meet you Wil. Did you have a chance to try out Dragon Dice? How full is the dice bag? If you make it back next year you’ve got to try True Dungeon. I’ve never played D&D before, but it kicked Ass! Hope to see you again soon (maybe at PAX Prime in Seattle?).

Thanks so much for coming to GenCon – it was a blast to finally get to meet my famous (albeit distant) cousin! If I ever get the full family tree together, I’ll make sure to email you a copy. Smith/Wheaton FTW! lol

Wil it was a pleasure meeting you. Can’t wait to see the pic of all the dice. Maybe next year you can physically be Cthulhu in our Cthulhu Dice game instead of just a pic.

  45. GeekFight says:
    9 August, 2010 at 2:38 pm

If you want, I can ship you some copies when they are finished (P.O. box is fine). Also, what info do you want in the ad block on the side? Just email me that info when you have time (if you can still find my business card amongst all of your swag). If you need my email again, just let me know.

I ran into you on Sunday outside of the giant T-shirt booths in the exhibit hall – unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to attend your panel or make it through the line to chat/get stuff signed. I can say that it was great seeing you there, and I appreciated you taking the time to talk for a minute or two.

I think this was my favorite GenCon so far and it didn’t have anything to do with you being there. *wink* Okay, so that was awesome; I’m the goofball yelling the Mensa stuff with you when my sister handed you a cookie from GeekyCookies (One of my projects was to get one to you.)
At any rate, I wasn’t working, got to play a LOT of great games, spend a huge amount of time drinking delish beers (they have Stone beers & more over at Scotty’s, plus open gaming tables) and meeting AMAZING friends, old and new!
