Spock is not impressed that it’s my birthday

  • WWdN in Exile

During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week.

After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life.

Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which is … 39.

So happy birthday to me, NASA, Geddy Lee, and everyone else who was born on July 29th, especially those of us who escaped from our mothers in 1972.

Happy Birthday Wil, my best wishes for you today. Are you going to be at GenCon this year? If so I’ll buy you a belated birthday beer. And as for turning 40 next year, don’t sweat it. As TV has recently told me (and I know TV never lies) 40 is the new 20.

Happy Birthday, sir. I hope your fam and friends make it a memorable one for you! (in a good way)
I like Jeffrey’s assertion that we should be counting it in hex. I’m gonna use that one from now on..

Welcome to the Age of Forgetting How Old You Are!!
I think part of it is that it doesn’t matter anymore, but also that there have been SO VERY MANY ages in your life, you have trouble remembering which one it was – “Maybe I’m 22; I was 22 for a whole year that one time. Nah, not 22 that was a long time ago. I must be 27. Wait, what year is it? So let’s see, borrow the one and subtract…What’s 11 minus 2? What’s 10 minus 7? Wait, did I count the extra? Where’s my calculator…”
This is the mental conversation I have in the 3 seconds between when someone asks how old I am and when I answer, usually with the wrong number.

Dangit, way to get my hopes up. If you would be 38 on your BDay, I would only be 28 on mine in a couple weeks (tangent: Holy shit…a couple weeks! Noooooo!). I don’t want to be 29. 🙁
    Also: Happy Birthday 😀

Happy Birthday! My little sis shares your day of escaping the womb, so it’s easy for me to remember my favorite (ok, second fave after my hubby I guess) nerd’s birthday. Hope it’s wonderful, and clown-free!

    Happy Birthday.
My 40th birthday is on this tuesday. Thank you for being awesome and sharing it with me (and everyone else).
Being just a year older than you I relate very well to many of your stories, because they are also my stories. Growing up with Star Wars and Star Wars Toys, going to actual video arcades. These are the same things I did as I was growing up.
For a long time I was a Wesley Crusher hater, but now that I have gotten to know the person (even if just through reading your blog, and 30 seconds at Gen Con last year) rather than the character I look back and actually enjoy many of the Wesley episodes. I am also now a Leverage addict, and will probably go back and start watching Eureka from the beginning. I also strive to not be a dick, although it is hard sometimes.
Thank you for teaching me to be a better person. I hope you have many more very Happy Birthdays.

    Have the happiest of Happies!
I had a similar moment a month ago on my 38th birthday. I realized I was closer to 40 than I was to 30. I then remembered celebrating my mother’s 38th birthday and a momentary time paradox loop was created. I’m still trapped somewhere in the aftermath. 🙂

When my husband turned 33 (some time ago), a friend of ours asked, “Ah. That’s the point where you start forgetting how old you are.” We didn’t believe her until he had to start doing the math from 1970. I hit that point at 34.
And also, Happy Birthday, and Happy Rain Day! It’s a holiday in my hometown.

Happy Birthday Wil! After all this time I didn’t think the sweater pic could possibly get any funnier. I was wrong. (Of course, I also did not think the stainless steel toilets at the good old DNA Lounge could possibly get any colder, and I was wrong about that…)
Enjoy your day, I hope it is nothing less than completely fantastic! 🙂
