When I was a child actor and my mom was forcing me to do all of the child actor things, she was obsessed with my reviews. She made me feel […]
Hi friends! I am so excited to announce It’s Storytime with Wil Wheaton, my new podcast. Our first episode drops on March 26th. This idea emerged from my creative self […]
In a wonderful little neighborhood called Larchmont, there’s a wonderful little bookshop called Chevalier’s. A friend of mine ran into Patrick Stewart there today, and when my friend mentioned that […]
Four years ago, I recorded and released narrations of short material that I pulled from the public domain. I did my best to release one a week, as an experiment. […]
Well deserved, sir.
Justly deserved. They couldn’t have found a better match. I also really enjoyed your performance of Armada. I don’t think I would have enjoyed Armada as much if I had read it rather than listening to it. You make an effort to give all characters a distinctive and consistent voice which few narrators manage to do effectively.
Absolutely agree with this – I started reading it and put the book down to purchase the audiobook.
Don’t forget the *Bonus: Wheaton also narrates Cline’s new book, Armada. Bravo, Bravo!
I listened to your narration, and was blown away. If you do more, then I will pay the extra for your Kindle versions. Cline wrote an amazing book, but you brought it to life in my imagination while I painted my house. Just thank you. I can’t wait to hear your Titansgrave Gencon panel!
Checking out my Audible playlist, nearly all of my books were narrated by you, with only 3 exceptions (two were read by the authors, Modern Romance and Paddle Your Own Canoe, and the other would have been done justice with your voice, The Martian).
Well deserved. You have an excellent voice and you really bring the characters to life.
Kermit flail YAAAAAAAAY!
Just bought the audio book a few days ago based on a recommendation of the book and your performance. Looking forward to listening to it even more now.
Congratulations!
I have never listened to an audiobook, and Ready Player One is great and I’m sure you did a wonderful job, so it would be a good idea to start with it.
Although something narrated by John Malkovich is quite tempting… 😉
Well deserved. I just finished listening to it and it was excellent. You did a great job conveying tone and emotion – plus I could really tell your enthusiasm for the work overall (despite being called a ‘geezer’ 🙂 ).
I’ve never listened to a better narrated book than “Ready Player One.”
That’s fantastic! But I hope the Number One slot belongs to Samuel L. Jackson for “Go The F**k To Sleep”.
Their list of “Suggested activities while listening:” is pretty awesome as well, Wil.
It’s the truth, really great work and perfect for the story.
Y’know, I was watching Titansgrave Episode Five and noticed the Ogden Morrow voice came out for the intercom voice on the station. I just imagined the character being a bit more evil in this world and it fit.
Gotta check this out. You’re next to freakin’ Vonnegut, Fey, Malkovitch!
Justly deserved.
You definitely made the book very enjoyable to listen to. I’m listening to Armada right now, and I’m once again loving your narration. So thank you!
Absolutely earned. I’ve listened to it twice and read it once. It’s the only audio book in my collection I’ve ever listened to again. You made a great book even better.
Completely deserved. As someone above commented, it is the best audiobook performance I’ve ever listened to – and the only one I’ve listened to twice. I was that crazy person on the Metro laughing out loud, all alone. And I loved it.
I love your audiobooks because they don’t sound like you are reading. They sound like you are just telling me a story.
Thank you, and congratulations!
You rocked it. I’m thoroughly enjoying your telling of Armada right now. I waited for the Audible version to come out once I learned you were narrating it. Well worth the wait.
Anyone who can recite Pi to a thousand decimal places orally without falling-down-cracking-up definitely deserves a medal! Way to go, Wil.
Congratulations! That’s fantastic. I read the book, but haven’t listened to it yet. I’ve heard nothing but good things from my friends who have!
Wil, I loved reading Ready Player One, it’s one of my favorite books of all time, I don’t usually find that I get as much out of listening to books, my attention wanders, but you managed to bring the audio version of ready player one to life, no I take that back, you made it explode out of the book dings the bell a dozen times for Wil. You made it an even better experience listening to your narration than I had reading it. I felt the genuine excitement you have for the book and the subject matter. When I found out you were doing Armada (which I’m already nearly finished with), and my my wife can testify to this, I squealed with excitement.
Thanks man!

Well deserved. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ready Player One. The story was engaging, fun and complemented by your excellent narration.
I followed it up with Masters of Doom and next up is Armada.
Yesterday a friend asked for YA audio books for a roadtrip and several people highly recommended Ready Player One. Congrats!
SWEET!
Yeah, I must have listened to my copy 10 times.
Congrats!
You were also great on “Masters of Doom” … which… well, sort of the real-life version of Ready Player One, so also a great fit – though I’m sure that Ready Player One is more widely read and so a more likely candidate for this type of award.
Absolutely true, one of the 10 best and my personal favorite on that list. My son, who is midly autistic and dyslexic would not read or listen to any book. However, he loved your scifi channel show and loves TableTop etc. When I told him you were reading this book, he gave me a patented teenage eyeroll and said, “Probabaly not totally lame.” He then listened non-stop for about 2 days and then listened to it again. He has a 3 book a month audiobook habit now. I have steered him into Leiber and other Appendix N niceness as well as Huck Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird. Thanks Will. Looking foward to seeing you at Gencon!
I enjoy listening to you speak and the funny parts too .. Hope all is well for you .. 🙂
My husband and I love your performance of Ready Player One. It’s the audiobook that convinced my husband how awesome they are. We bought it and pop it in on road trips too short for an entire new book. We are really looking forward to Armada.
Absolutely deserved. I listened to Ready Player One 7-8 times last year and you nailed it.
Congrats, Wil!
Well deserved! Your storytelling is in a class of its own!! Ive got the biggest man crush with your voice… That sounded weard… 🙂
I’m listening to Armada right now. Soon you will have two titles in the top ten!
Nice one, Willy!
I just met Ernest Cline last night at his NY book signing, and he was effusing for about 5 minutes about how incredible a narrator you are and how thrilled he is that you worked on his books. RP1 is far and away my favorite audiobook ever, and I’ve listened to lots of them. You deserve all the awards forever for your performance!
And with good reason fine Sir. Your reading of Ready Player One ruined all my future (and past) audio book experiences. No one can deliver an experience like yourself.
I’m sad that not all audiobooks are read by you. Which, I understand, is obviously impossible.
Someone get on that. Move over Microsoft-Sam. Here comes Wheaton!

Great blog.
I saw Ernest Cline at a book signing earlier this week. He was very complimentary of you and your work on his books. Cline explained your friendship with this joke… paraphrasing: “Wil Wheaton and I had similar experiences growing up. I worked at Hardees, and he piloted the Starship Enterprise.” Ha!
Congratulations! It’s well deserved. I loved it. Also loved your readings of Agent to the Stars and Fuzzy Nation.
Congrats! I absolutely LOVED your reading of this book, and have listened to it several times over. I also highly recommend the audiobook to people who are reading it instead of the paper copy. I can not WAIT to listen to Armada when I get it in from the library.
Thanks for being awesome. I know it can be hard to remember when your brain lies to you. (happy early birthday!)
That’s because hands down, it is!
I absolutely loved your narration of this book. I smirked when you read your own name.
Of course! Congratulations!
I downloaded Ready Player One specifically in audiobook format because a friend raved about Cary Elwes having narrated his own audiobook As You Wish. He gave such a great performance because his heart was in it from the start. I figured that since you’re a self-proclaimed geek, you’d be perfect to narrate Ready Player One from what I knew of its retro ubergeek content. You NAILED IT, nerdgasms and all!
I just want to say, you are a fantastic audio book reader. My family and I live nomadically, and listen to audiobooks together a lot (I also have eye strain issues that rule out reading so audiobooks are my only way to read!). You are, by far, our favourite reader and we will listen to any book you do, even if it isn’t one that normally would leap out at us. Redshirts was our first book you read and we’ve been hooked ever since. You are, definately, one of the best in the field and I hope you do lots more! Know that your words are flooding the Aussie outback! (And yes, we were totally in the crowd at Supanova when you were here, because I’m also a total trek geek and nerd in general, and grew up as a minority viewpoint who liked Wesly. 🙂 )
I just finished Ready Player One; the book and your narration were both excellent. As a guy that has lived through (played through) so much of that video gaming history I was taken back to many fun parts of my early life. Thanks to you and Ernest Cline.
