50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

O, Canada!

  • random thoughts

What can I say? Canada earned it.
Team USA’s third period effort looked like the LA Kings, circa 1986.
Canada wanted it more badly, and they played much harder.
Seriously, they played some of the best hockey I have ever seen.
Congratulations, oh Great White North Ones!
Take off, eh?

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

    Yo Wil,
Where’s the other six verses of our national anthem? God knows, I never learned them either, but this is one of those “We won, you have to be our slaves for a day” things… Relinquish ALL lyrics to our national anthem.

A prepared guy is a guy with doubt in his mind ;0)
I didn’t actually watch the match, the BAFTAs were more interesting to me. But well done Canada nonetheless, and well done Wil for taking it like a man!
(PS As someone else pointed out, Curling belongs, at least temporarily, to GB :0)

I’d prefer a war on ice (a good ol’ hockey game) then on land or water (Operation Apollo) any day

Well I being a good sport that I am, I won’t comment on the previous entry, but just want to say it was a good game, although I didn’t see all of it. And I can’t really make a comment either because I am a proud Canadian living now in the good USA. But I still did want to say…So who kicked whose ass now, hehe. We took our torch back. 🙂 Just funning. And although I don’t normally make comments on here, I do love reading them all and wanted to contribute to this one.

I think the US national anthem is more beautiful and has more creativity. 🙂 Love you Canada but the USA still rocks whether we win or not. Wil talk trash whenever you please!

  19. Amanda says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:35 pm

Did you know there was a two-dollar coin in the ice at center? 😉

  20. fenaray says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:35 pm

I am so glad Canada won, this was the most exciting hockey game I have seen in a long time. See, it really can be exciting without all the violent crap 🙂

  21. Amanda says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:36 pm

There was a CDN 2$ Coin in Center Ice!!

  22. John Mcgregor says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:38 pm

You’re a good sport Wil, but, was there ever any doubt? If Richter hadn’t been hot the score would’ve been 25 to 2! You’ve got to come to Toronto sometime to drown your sorrows — we’ve got stouts that make Guiness taste like it comes from a Dublin sewer! ( God knows I’ve sampled them all)

  27. Gigi says:

your anthem was written in response to your lame attempt to annex Canada. you were sent home crying. And we set fire to your (now) whitehouse.
go back and listen to the lyrics.

  28. ProfWendi says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:40 pm

Yeah, I think I heard that the 2$ coin was put there by the guys who do the ice.. they’re Canadian, and they do all the ice for NHL games!
    Good sport, Wil!
And I have to say, that I am glad it was USA that we played – I can’t think of a better team to play against.

  29. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:40 pm

Our anthem is still better. Doesn’t matter what you say it still is better! HA!

  30. fenaray says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:41 pm

I think both the anthems suck, really. One glorifies war and the other is just, well, boring…….
    YAY!!!!! CANADA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
It was neat seeing the flags side by side, eh?

  31. Dani says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:41 pm

actually, Gigi, the white house that was burned down was in Philadelphia. Soon afterward construction started on the White House in DC.
    (Danielle the Canadian history buff).

  32. Gigi says:

I wanted to play russia for the 30th anniversary.

  34. chantelle says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:42 pm

This is in response to Amanda, it as acutally a loonie (1$ coin) imbedded in center ice becuase the Ice Keepers were Canadian.

  35. Gigi says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:44 pm

and the tradition of white houses was born 😉

  36. shaynie says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:44 pm

i actually like ours better, but that’s umm…because I’m biased…and I’ve been forced to play it for years.

  37. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:44 pm

I’ll take war over boring anyday. LOL!!

  38. qowf says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:46 pm

My husband’s Canadian and I’m American and I tell you, we got our butts kicked and deserved it. It was a great game, though. However, Chris Chelios will still always be the “God of Ice” in my heart.
Nice touch with the flag, Wil. Excellent stuff.

  39. fenaray says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:47 pm

    Um,
Choice between war and boring??? Boring baby, boring.

  40. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:49 pm

I didnt mean literally. LOL! I meant song wise.

  41. fenaray says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:51 pm

    Well,
That’s something altogether different, isn’t it?

  42. olafandy jon says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:52 pm

Damn, I missed all the trash talking, on this one! Late again.
But really-congratulations to all Canadians on the Olympic hockey sweep. Brodeur played a masterful game (how about that save on Brett Hull?) You played an incredible defensive game-I was surprised to the shots on goal being as close as they were because it seemed like USA couldn’t get a shot through.
But if you would have told me Mario Lemieux missed an open net, I’d have said you were crazy.

  43. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:52 pm

You know most the people in the USA don’t know the other what five verses to our national anthem. How sad is that. I know them though. 🙂 But I’m sure that is the case everywhere. You know.

  44. roz says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:55 pm

That was a most excellent game. The US played well, but Canada (obviously) played better… 😀 Go canada!

  45. Kath, a Canadienne says:
    24 February, 2002 at 2:59 pm

Ah… it feels good to be on top. You can do all the shit-talking you want, Wil, but it won’t change the fact that we kicked you guys’ asses today and will therefore rule for the next four years! 😀

  46. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 3:00 pm

Wait I just read the national anthem of Canada and it certainly sounds a bit warish. 🙂

  47. DaleJrBlueEyes says:
    24 February, 2002 at 3:01 pm

LOL not when we draft them to american teams and they play for the USA in the next olympics. LOL!!

  48. Sally says:
    24 February, 2002 at 3:01 pm

Yo, rock on Canada. My wish came true. Maybe not my want, but my wish. They so deserved it, and their country should be proud. Rock.
You know, their anthem was written in peace time, which makes it so much more beautiful.
English translation of the French: (so pretty!)
O Canada! Land of our forefathers
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As in thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic of the most brilliant exploits.
    Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights
Will protect our homes and our rights.

  49. Greg says:
    24 February, 2002 at 3:01 pm

Being prepared showed that Wil was being a good sport.
To our Canadian friends, congradulations on the win. Your guys played a hell of a game. They deserve the Gold!

  50. olafandy jon says:
    24 February, 2002 at 3:03 pm

By the way, did anybody else find it as funny as I did when Steve Yzerman took that penalty (which I thought was a bad call, but I’ll take it)? I have never seen him that angry before! Nor had I ever seen him pissed enough to throw a towel on the penalty box camera!
Stevie, I hope you hang on to some of that emotion for the Cup run!
