Just talk about the weather

  • random thoughts

I really love the weather today.
That’s right. I’m talking about the weather. Nice, banal, weather conversation. Guaranteed not to stir up any controversy, or incite any riots.
Seriously, though. I had to be at work at 8 this morning, and, thanks to the wonderful Los Angeles freeway system, I had to leave my house at 6:30. This meant that I got up with the Sun, which is never a bad thing.
My neighborhood is just filled with all kinds of wildlife: Peacocks, wild parrots, Canadian geese, and the usual finches and sparrows that pretty common in Southern California. When I get up really early in the morning, I always walk out onto my patio, and just listen to them for a second. It’s a really nice way to start the day, I think. On a misty morning like today, Ferris runs through the backyard, leaving little Ferris-prints in the wet grass, before she hurries to the back door, asking to be let in for breakfast.
When I left my house, I drove through this canyon nearby, and the tops of the hills were completely obscured by low-hanging fog and mist, which made LA look really pretty. Believe me, it’s not easy to make LA look pretty.
By the time I got to work in West Los Angeles, the clouds and fog had lifted, and there was nothing but clear blue sky, and a really stiff breeze.
At lunch, I walked down the street to eat, and some of those little puffy clouds had shown up, and the wind was really making them truck across the sky, which was super cool to watch.
If you live in Northern California, you should totally know what type of day I’m talking about. We don’t get these days often in SoCal, so I really appreciate them when we do.
Speaking of weather, I wrote another silly satire piecefor BBSpot. I went for a “man on the street” style of writing. It was fun.
That’s all I’ve got for today, folks. I’m off to this charming market, where I can enjoy a wonderfully delicious halibut sandwich.

Canadian Geese Eh? We have not seen them in quite some time here in Ottawa, but Spring is coming, and they will be flying overhead soon, and stopping and resting in local fields.

I live in Northern California and I know just the type of day you are talking about. Except the past several days is been pouring rain, lol. 🙂 But I like the rain so it doesn’t bother me at all. 🙂

    Canada geese… AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAURGHH!!!!
    They’re EVIL, evil creatures!!
They proliferate faster than bunnies, and they’re far more annoying. What’s worse, it’s a federal offense to kill them, so they can take over any open grassy area and/or pond and fill it with their slimy green poop and stand in the middle of the freaking ROAD and block it, even when you honk your horn at them, because they just honk back at you, and if you’re walking down the sidewalk they attack you….
Of course… they’re not as bad as SWANS…
    *shudder*

Nice wildlife there, but what’s wrong with the weather? Seriously… talk about anything you want to say. It’s your site.

  9. kendoka says:
    7 March, 2002 at 5:51 pm

…especially swans whose wings have been clipped so they can swim around the 3-acre lake in the middle of the campus with the six HUNDRED Canada geese who never fly away…
(I was attacked by one such swan on my way to class way back when I was in college… the thing was literally as tall as I was!!)
Well… speaking of flying and ponds… it’s almost time for me to fly over the really big one to our east… for 8 fun-filled days of research and photography!
    Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
    I promise to bring you all back something. (;

Do I detect a little WFS style in today’s entry? 🙂
I’d better stop there. We know where this has gone before!
I kinda think LA can look pretty, like in early October-ish, the time frame when I last visited. But then again, I kind of liked the view from the world’s largest escalator at Universal Studios, so what do I know?
Okay, maybe it was more of a entire Southern California thing than an LA thing, but it’s cloudy and dreary in Detroit today, so any day with clear blue sky sounds good to me right now.

    RIOT! RIOT! RIOT!
Having had to shovel a half foot snow fall this morning, some of which blew into some rather nice snow drifts, I must protest all this “nice weather” talk. How dare he… HA HA HA!
And Wil thought that this would be a safe topic. HA!
But don’t grieve for me though. It is suppose to warm up into the lower 40’s by Sunday!

Weather pah! California doesn’t have weather it has a climate. Now the British we have weather and boy do we like to tell you about it.

  30. Pmacca01 says:
    7 March, 2002 at 6:43 pm

Houston weather? Predictable?? Ha! In the morning, it’s 30 degrees, you’re bundled up in your coat and mittens and head out to work. You leave the building at 4pm only to find that it is now 90. That is not an exaggeration. It can be bright and clear all day, then lightening and thunder are prominant all through the night. We’ll have a drought for 2 months and then 3 months of Monsoons. Houston is far from predictable.

  31. Pmacca01 says:
    7 March, 2002 at 6:45 pm

Oh, good ol’ London weather. The only weather more unpredictable and wetter than Houston.

Gah. Had a blizzard today. (That’s “snow: fluffy white frozen
flecks of crystallized water that fall from the sky” for those of you
    in Southern California.)
I can’t get the “Gonads and Strife” song out of my freakin’ head,
and to make matters worse, I went to William (F) Shatner’s BLOG AND READ THE COMMENTS!
AAAAGGGGGHHHH!!! Do NOT put links like THAT up again!

Canadian Geese are terrible!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been chased through a freakin field by some deranged bird that could break my legs with it’s wings. Those things are evil! You think the babies are sooo cute, they make their way over to you, but do not be fooled, it’s just a ploy so the mothers can attack you and peck yer eyes out.
On a lighter note it’s freezing cold here in good ol’ Cowtown, the neighborhood animals have managed to get their tongues stuck to the metal doors and the childrens to every flag pole you can find. At least this time we realized the car was plugged into the house before backing out of the driveway.
Any Southern Californians wanna adopt me?! *puppy face*

totally got a michael stipe thing going in my head: “should we talk about the weather… hi… hi… hi…” which is never a bad thing.
do californians really feel the state is divided into TWO states? a whole north vs. south kinda thing? totally know this great song that is about just that subject…. but didn’t know if this was something californians pontificate about (the merits of n. v. s.) or if it was just art for art’s sake and for the sake of the song.
