    I use to wear those all the time in HS & for about 5 years out.
    In fact I think I had a pair that I wore for at least 2 years. The souls were coming off so I just glued em back on.
    They are great, comfy shoes. I need to run out and buy another pair.

  4. wow… i let that swim around in my head for a while. the more i think about it, the cooler that seems to me. i mean, chuck taylors are the coolest shoes ever… and to be rewarded for wearing them in movies – it almost seems to be a more legit reason to give an actor award than the oscars… did i say almost?

    I have pink Converse sneakers (not the high tops) with everything from stick-on jewels to phone numbers on them, thus making me the coolest girl alive – with the possible exception of your wife who I hear is pretty cool. You were on TNN tonight too!! It was the one where you get to really be an ensign and get your Star Fleet issue uniform!! YAY WESLEY!!! Just thought you would like to know. ;o)

  12. Just the other day my sister said that “chuck chuck…” because it was her (and my) favorite version of that rhyming song. Since then it keeps popping up in my head. And now – on my monitor.
    The yellow – it’s near the same yellow as on the cards I just made for my other sister’s wedding.
    Just such a coincidentical day.
    And of course I did always love my stinky tennies. Black low tops are my favorite, but the mint green high tops were pretty sweet at the time. I’d never wear those ones again though.

  15. Hey Wil. I just wanted to say you and the other people on the walk are true stars. My Aunt died of breast cancer in 1994, and she was only 45 years old. She was a special needs teacher and was loved by a great many people. It seems ridiculous that the US government is more concerned with fighting an unnecessary war than funding vital research into fighting this disease. It’s also very reassuring (for us British) to know that the Americans really do give a shit, and that movie stars have a conscience. 🙂
    PS I watched Stand By Me for the first time the other day and I totally fell in love with it. Your character / performance is truly amazing.

  19. I’ve been wearing Chucks for at least 15 years. They’re affordable and comfortable and I love them. Besides, if you really only make 76 cents and a bus transfer for voice overs I guess Reebok is out! 🙂 (j/k. What kind of a man wants to wear a shoe called a pump unless he was also into wearing clothing called a dress? another j/k)

  24. OK at first I thought our dear little Wil had lost all the rest of his marbles, but thankfully I clicked on the link and found out that he’s got a couple left and a neat note about some awesome shoes…

    The only time I ever had a pair of those shoes was when I was 14 years old and it was the labor day before my freshman year in HS…I got them the day before that, and Labor Day evening I broke my ankle in 7 places by slipping on a gutter drain and wet grass….THEY HAD TO CUT THEM OFF ME!!! They were my favorite thing, but I couldn’t buy another pair, for they reminded me of such disasterous pain and all….eeek….

  25. I have worn Chuck Taylors since I was 12. That’s 20 years. I wear other shoes, but I always miss the black hi-tops when they’re in the closet. I have a dress pair [newer] and a house pair [older, dirty, ripped]. I have to get mine online now, I can never find my size when I go to stores.
    Waiting with bated breath for the respect update, Wil. I’ll be damned if I’m gonna visit some trek bulletin board for that news. And just how did you get Lord of the Rings: the GOOD version already?

  28. Yes, but do any of you remember the tu-toned Chucks? I think they were made mainly for girls in the late 80s, and I suppose it’s possible they were off brand. Anyway, they were one color on the outside and another color on the inside. I had black/hot pink and mint/aqua. And of course, you were supposed to wear them cuffed down, they were about as high as wrestler’s boots uncuffed. I still have about a million pair of Chucks, mainly low tops, and I almost invariably design them into any show I can get away with (I’m a theatrical costume designer). One show I designed, I was looking high and low for red chucks in an actor’s size, and all I could find was white (restricted budget). Anyhow, I put them on him, watched the rehearsal, and hated my whole design. Before the opening, however, I took out my trusty red Sharpie, colored the shoes red, and it changed my whole outlook on the design of the show. Weird, huh? 🙂

  41. Don’t laugh, but after seeing Toy Soldiers, being the geeky fan that I am I went out and got shoes like those. I even got a shirt and jacket like the one in the movie.. And an earring… Heh.
    Ok, I’ll go back to my little cave now. 🙂
