Thanks to jodilyn who posted that Isaac Hayes has a website. Wil, if you’re still debating the autograph thing and are unsure about getting him to sign something personal, Mr. Hayes has a cookbook. I’m sure he would be pleased to sign that for you.
I’ve been to weddings where the couple have programs printed and the music listed. If you had one of those with “Shaft” listed, it would be really special to get him to sign that. But, in any case, it’s karma that it’s your wedding anniversary and it’s his last day of shooting with you. Use the excuse and get the CD signed already.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WILL! It only gets better from here. My hubby and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary in October and we’re more in love with each other than the day we got married.
By the way, GET SOMETHING SIGNED!!! I hope for your sake that you didn’t chicken out again. I’m sure “Chef” will be flattered, and you’ll never regret it.

    Ironic you say?

Oh come on, get the autograph. I’m sure he’d be flattered to be asked from a colleague he respects.
And happy anniversary to both of you. “Borrow” the tux and take her someplace really nice (unless it’s one of those 70s powder blue tuxes with the frilly lapels).

Wouldn’t you tell us we’re total idiots if we had a chance to ask for your autographed and passed it up?
The worse that can happen: you’ll be exactly were you are now: autograph-less.
    Happy Anniverary! =)

Happy anniversary and congratulations! My 13th anniversary is next week, and over the last 13 years, I’ve tried to follow these words, which I now offer to you:
Strive for understanding, always. If you fall out of harmony with each other for whatever reason, remember that it never costs you anything to apologize, even if you weren’t entirely wrong. Always remember to say “I love you.” Always be willing to listen, really listen to grievances. Equally important — be willing to express your own, calmly and with kindness. Care for each other, respect each other, and cherish each other’s frailties as well as strengths, for they are all a part of the one you love.
I wish you two happiness and contentment in each other for the next year, and for the future.
    MV

In the immortal words of Nike ‘Just do it’. Have a wonderful 3rd Anniversary celebration.
You have butterflies about asking the man for an autograph. I understand. But you will regret it if you don’t bite the bullet and go for it. He may surprise you by asking for yours in return!!
    xx

Even better than an autograph… Get your photo with him. That’s something you can hang on the wall and show the grandkids someday. Much more interesting than an ink scribble.
…and then you can make up stories to go with it. “Yeah, this is my friend Isaac Hayes. We used to hang out a lot back in the day…”

Wil — so you get married in the film? Two Words:
    SPOILER.
    WARNING.
I love hearing all about what happens on the set, but before you mention that your character turns out to be a ghost, or he and Isaac’s char are really the same guy, or it’s all a dream… you will give us a heads up, won’t you?
Hope you asked for an autograph today (jeez, if it isn’t a girl named Misty, it’s a guy named Isaac). Remember: who’s the guy who won’t cop out, when there’s danger all about? You are, dude! (Right on)

  21. theothercourtney says:
    7 November, 2002 at 2:01 pm

It might not be a spoiler. I assumed it was a first, but then again it could just be a “flashback” scene where Our Hero is remembering that sweet happiness he has lost. Don’t assume. When you assume, you make an ass out of Uma Thurman. Wait, that’s not right.

  22. Matthew Brown says:

I say get the autograph, but present him with an 8×10 glossy of Chef.

    Wil–
It’s so refreshing to read how sweetly and lovingly you talk about your wife. My wife and I just celebrated our own 3rd anniversary in August, and every time I see you write things about Anne, it makes me think of my Raya.
I’m so glad I’m not the only freak who loves his wife! There are at least two of us, woo hoo, and one of them was Wesley Freakin’ Crusher!! 🙂

    Hey Wil,
Congratulations and all the best to you and Anne on your anniversary! May you have many, many more!
    Best,
    Rob
P.S. If you’re going to get his autograph, just do it for yourself and don’t worry about what anyone thinks. After all, everyone’s a fan of someone else in some way.
