I think it’s the second coolest date this year . . . the first being 01.02.03.
I think it’s so cool, I’m making a really stupid and pointless weblog entry, just so I can keep this date in my archives.
Many people who read this site using RSS feeds have complained at me that there are H3 tags around all my titles. Rather than respond to each e-mail directly, I’ll just put this here: I know, and it sucks. The thing is, I can’t seem to get the cascade order correct in my stylesheet (yeah, it’s on the list of things that DESPERATELY needs to be updated, along with most of the source for the site — but I’ve been, uh, working on other stuff 😉
If I could tell MT to make the .title class “large,” (and it actually *worked*) I wouldn’t need to use the H3 tags . . . but I swear, I just can’t figure it out. If anyone wants to offer some help, I’d be happy to take it, and you’ll be a hero to tens of RSS readers.
Good news and bad news on JAG.
Good news: the cover is designed, and looks amazing. I’ve been given some really kind and flattering quotes to put on it, and I think I have a really funny and insightful preface.
Bad news: It’s looking like the release is going to be pushed by a couple of weeks at best, maybe a month at worst. I am profoundly saddened by this fact, but I want it to be as good as it can possibly be.
“Dancing Barefoot” is still on schedule, though.
How about a thought for today?
“If sand were made of diamonds . . . they’d still call it sand.”
UPDATE: I spent some time looking through my awful stylesheet. I know it’s supposed to be all charming and everything, and empowering to feel like I’ve come a long way . . . but holy crap! I felt like I was watching myself in “The Buddy System” or “Liar’s Club,” or some performance of mine that makes me cringe. All I had to do was download the damn thing and look at it in vim (yeah! geek points! vim, baby!) to see what I’d done wrong. First, there was no .title class. MT provides it, but I’d managed to bork it out of the style-sheet at some point in time. So I added the .title class, and set the font-weight to bolder, and the font-size to 27px. (It’s the only value that’s set to px, btw.) Thanks to Danielle, who sent the font-size number, and to O’Reilly’s Cascading Syle Sheets: The Definitve Guide, which just paid for itself. 🙂
Update-Update spoke too soon. I broke the effing thing again. I think I must be setting up the cascade incorrectly.
UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE: It looks like everything is working, now. Hooray.

On the subject of cool dates, I rather like one that passed last year – the twentieth of february – on grounds of it being a palindrome – 20.02.2002. I’ll go sit in the corner now 😛
*L* wil, you are one of the coolest geeks i know, and that means a lot if you know me. which, unfortunately, you don’t. but i don’t really know you, either. but that’s alright, because you rox0r.
^_^
ooh, just a quick question: are you going to offer signed copies for like $20 more than the cover price online? i think that would be awesome. make that dough, baby, yeah!
Font is too big!
Wil, sounds like your day was much like mine. Only mine didn’t have a happy ending. 🙁 Not that this is something you’d really be interested in but since I get to hear about your day, how about you hear about mine? I’ve been fighting with my insurance company, Aetna, for two months now. I need a hernia repair and tummy tuck. (The tuck is for medical reasons – honest!) Well, I’ve proven medical necessity on the tuck. I guess that pissed them off because now they’re questioning the hernia repair. This is after they told me on the phone that it’s covered, no problem. No need to prove anything. Suddenly, they want an MRI to prove I have a hernia. Mind you, TWO surgeons have already sent Aetna documentation that I have a hernia. So, the surgery that was scheduled for next week will now be delayed for who knows how long. I hate insurance companies, don’t you?
So, that’s my update for the day. Hope I didn’t bore you too much. 🙂
Your friend,
Tracey
I realized the date today when I was writing a check. I sort of have a slight OCD thing with letters and numbers in sets of threes, so seeing that was totally cool.
I’m very excited about the book, and don’t worry about it taking a little longer. After all, J.K. Rowling is taking, what, like over a year and a half from when she said she’d be done with the fifth Harry Potter installment until when it actually is releasing it? (But if you make us wait *that* long, I may have to hurt you.) =)
Wil, it’s still not quite fixed. I have my window width set so that “Hall and Oates had more number one hits than” is one line. “any other bad in the 80s.” overlaps the first line a bit.
Sorry. 🙂
another internet game to kill time>>>>>

*lol* RSS? Eh…maybe http://htmlpalace.com will help you, watch out for the pop up! 😐 I dunno. I don’t pretend to know what I’m talking about, even though I’ve been going html for almost 4 years.
Hmmm….I have had issues with soooo many classes that MT uses….I too run my own MT weblog and I found by way to your website through the MT page….I know CSS already so I just tweak at it a ton….but I can’t quite get it right….if you read all your comments email me I can tweak the sheet a bit if u want….You should use nano its better than vi or vim for that matter!
Adeiu
Ooooooooo….Loook at the purtty letters!*Shmooshes face on monitor*
I hope that your day..has gone well despite the computer glitch you’ve been fighting.
I didn’t think about 03/03/03 until a few hours ago.
I remember looking at the clock many years ago to see when it reached 12:34:56 7/8/90.
I was such a geek.
You fixed the H3 tags, but now the main text is way too large.
Plus, what happened to the simultaneous overline/underline? That was one of the things that made your site stand out.
I dumped the over and underline. I thought it was time for a little change.
I just resized the base font from 12pt to 10pt.
As I mentioned in an e-mail to someone a litle bit ago, I think it’s a testament to the coolness of this little “community” we’ve built here, that I can get quick, useful, and relevant feedback from so many people.
Cool new look to the site (God the type is big and plain). To bad about the book. And good mojo luck on your computer problems. I hope you solve them soon.
Holy Jumpin’ Jesus Wil! Those blog entry titles are like, way big an readable now on my WinBlows machine! :}
They were kinda tiny before. But that’s cool they way the are here now. I can seperate the title from the entry.
And it looks like you have made a few other changes. I like what I’m seeing so far. Keep it up! I wish you used a Winblows machine though…so I could write some cool ASP scripts for ya ;}
Take your time on the book. Good things come to those who wait and work hard…or…something like that…
Jeez I hope I didn’t break it! Yikes! It looks like the “rules” are running into my last post up there. Hope it’s cause Wil is stil working on it :}
Nope, you didn’t break it. It’s all me, baby. 😉
Wil,
Thats alot of updates! I hope they meet your standards. I will end this comment, now, in case you need to update again.
FG
Wil, everything happens exactly when it should. Delay is artificial, based on a system of keeping time invented by man. Don’t sweat it-good things come to those who wait.
BTW–1 too many Red Bulls today??? 🙂
OOOohhhh! Wil making STNG comments on TNN this week! How long ago did you do this? Away, love the site, keep Farkin’ and Bob bless.
JCT
this book is gonna be worth the wait..man, am i excited to read it…
take as long as you think is necessary wil…
don’t rush it…
but let us know in advance, if you can, on how to order it if we’re not in the US..
(like if we’re up in Canada, fer’ instance…)
😉
cheers
Tyson
The font looks kinda big to me. With the larger size there seems to be less space between the lines and it makes it a little harder to read for me.
BTW, I once read about a study that said serif fonts, like Times Roman, are easier to read than sans serif fonts, like Arial. The serifs give your eye something to follow across the page.
Hmm, changing the font size on my browser doesn’t seem to change the font size.
Oh, I forgot to say, “Damn!” I won’t be able to get my autographed copy of Wil’s book at the end of the month.” Oh well, I want you to be satisfied that it’s the best you can do, so take your time to do it right. I’ll wait.
I’m glad I didn’t break it LOL
One of the most hair-pulling things about having your own website is trying to get things to look just right. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve worked on layouts…and graphics…and…well you get the point. I’ve been into this stuff since ’97 and still have yet to come up with a design of my own that I like.
Good luck on those style sheets. I know how much of a PITA those can be. I’ll never be able to master them.
Pointless entries so you can write the date? ME TOO! I updated as many client files as I could so I could and paid a bunch of bills so I could write it again and again!

03/03/03
Ever thought about adding “TrackBack” to your blog?
I actually just did that today with MT (have version 2.62, but started off with an older version, so I had to do the update manually). It wasn’t hard at all.
Change is good. It never fails to strike me just how disconcerting it is, though. People should not whine so much. (But it’s America, so they can. Thank goodness.)
The effect is still with me of how grateful I am, every time I read a new post, that you didn’t stop updating because of a few, very noisy, assholes. Every day is a little special, just like 03/03/03, when I can read this here blog.
We will all wait for any and all of your books. First of all, what choice do we have? Second, well number one pretty much sums it up! Don’t sweat it. Everything happens for a reason. It will be great anyway you slice it.
Looking forward to more. ;]
..man I’m a dork!
3^3^03
It’s my birthday for 2 more minutes.
34
Ugh! Farting dust and peeing mustard
Oh yeah, baby.
Because it wasn’t enough already, and because I’m feeling surly and LUCKY tonight . . . I upgraded to MT 2.63.
Oh. YEAH.
Heh. You’re braver than I; I have neither updated my MT version nor actually tackled my stylesheet for it. Point of fact, I’ve just been doing individual CSS on each template, which is probably doubling my work but somehow makes me feel easier than having it all lumped in one big file! Anyway, good mojo thoughts for the book, can’t wait. 🙂
Wil
my faveorite date…
7 / 29 / 72
but that would be… oops, Ive got something
on my nose I need to clean..
later!
AHHHHH! Mine Eyes. Out vile jellies! AHHHHH!
Holy crap, this new large font hurts my eyes. It’s kind of like having ten too many guiness, being woken up at six am after going to bed at five am, and having your roomate play the drums next to your bed. Well, not really, but this new larger font (though good for aging eyesight) is not good for clandestinely viewing your posts at work.
“Snaapp!”
Oh no, the whip again. Yes, master, I am going back to work now. (Foiled again!)
I’ve been to your site before and this is the first time that I’ve actually commented.I have to ask,how in the world do you find the time to read all these comments ! But I do see why everyone likes reading you 😉
…Nothing is broken. Everything is fine.
3/3/03 was not only the third day of the third month of the third year, it is also in the third millinium.
I actually saw “The Buddy System” on AMC recently. At first, I wasn’t sure it was you, Wil. After awhile, though, I made the connection. Don’t be too hard on your performance. You were what, 8, maybe 9?
Wasn’t your character supposed to be a little slow anyway? 😉
The Star Trek Myers-Briggs test- have you tried it?

Dancing Barefoot is a song by Patti Smith, not U2. U2 covered it, poorly.
one day late
I know this is a day late. Sue me. Yesterday was 030303. A neat date in and of itself. The birthday of my first serious (in that way) girlfriend. It also makes me think of other milestone things. Like wanting…
Yes, symetric dates are always fun.
Next year, April 4th …
In 2005, May 5th …
And for the dreaded 2006 … 6-6-6
This post reminded me of one thing: I totally missed 01.02.03! and it won’t happen, never again!!! which has served as a gorgeous reminder: I have to stop being so stuck up and pay attention to the callendar…

MAY BE VERY INTERESTING AS WELL… LOL
First of all, When I was a kid, and we are basically a year apart, Wil, I loved ‘The Buddy System”.
Second, if you’re gonna curse one of your rolls, try, ‘The Curse’. (yeah.. I know that was BAD.
Third.. how many friggin actors can claim to have 46 credits on IMDB by your age….
And finally, I found a picture of my son at 14. Wow, what an age. I still remember him then, but I’m just as proud of him now at 19. You have awesome things to look forward to, Wil.
