50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

i remember it as though it were a meal ago

  • Uncategorized

Couple of announcements:

  • I’m stunned, but thrilled that my autographed 1st edition of Dancing Barefoot went for over 400 bucks on eBay. Even better was how excited the buyer was to have the book!
  • I saw that another guy has put up a signed first edition auction, of his own. So if you want one that’s signed, and you don’t need it personalized, it’s a good opportunity for ya. It’s authentic. He was one of the first buyers to order a bulk order from me a few months ago.
  • I’m equally stunned and thrilled that my Borg9 shirt did so well, too. I have a few more of those, and that auction got quite a few bids, so I’ll probably put up another one.
  • My friend and former roommate, Chris Hardwick, is performing a 12 minute Rock Opera based on Tron tonight. I saw it on Sunday night, and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life.
  • My schedule for LosCon this Friday and Saturday has been finalized, and I added all the details on the Conventions page. I am particularly excited about my reading on Friday afternoon.
  • I found some copies of my book this morning. I’ll bring them to LosCon to sign and sell. Lots of people have e-mailed asking if there is any chance they can get one, so if there are any left after the con, I’ll put up a dutch auction.
  • My favorite hockey team, the Los Angeles Kings, are currently sitting atop the Pacific (Smythe) Division!!
  • On Monday Tuesday, I will have an epic announcement.

I don’t know how much rewrite I’m going to get done today . . . we have a lot of preparation to do for Thursday, and I feel guilty writing while Anne does stuff around the house. I’ll post whatever I get done.

Congrats on the huge eBay sale! Have a great Thanksgiving and rock out on your reading on Friday!

    I wish.

Darn it, Wil, I am still wanting to get a copy of your book. I do hope another printing happens in the near future. I ain’t got $400 to throw at it on Ebay even if it is autographed. By the way I think you’re swell.

Glad to hear things are going well for ya, Wil! I still need to order a copy of Dancing Barefoot. Hopefully, I can still find one out there or, failing that, I’ll await the next printing and buy your “new and improved” version Looking forward to your “epic” annoucement. I’m guessing it’s the VH-1 project. “One Geek To Rule Them All!” You can use that title if you want, free of charge.
Hey, are ya stil looking for Grateful Dead shows? Don’t mean to be pushy, but I never heard back from you. I know you’re a busy guy so that’s fine, but the offer is always open to you or any other Monkeys reading this.

Way to go Wil! You do realise that it is only wednesday, you couldn’t possibly have waited to, say, Friday to tell us that you’re going to deliver an ‘epic’ announcement on monday? Great, there goes my concentration for the rest of the week-thanks, you moron 🙂

  7. Michelle says:

So I’ve been dying to ask…. Does Wil Wheaton do housework? Above and beyond taking out the garbage and feeding the dogs?

  8. Jez says:
    25 November, 2003 at 10:09 am

I’m still damned excited to be getting the book!! Just so people don’t think I’m totally crazy, I won a fair bit of that $400 on a lottery scratch card and thought I’d turn it into something way, way cooler than the sum total of 200,000 of her majesty’s british pennies. The alternative was spending it on Guinness at uni – and i do that too much already as it is…
    Anyhow – ditto Annie’s comment!!
    Thanks again wil =:

  9. Jez says:

20,000 pennies, even. It might help if I learned to count! D’oh…

oh my god, wil. Thanks so much for the e-mail. That essay is going to kick ass. Oh by the way, its an essay comparing Stand By Me to The Graduate. lol I don’t know how that’s going to turn out. Thanks again!!

Way to go on the book man. I can’t wait until your second edition prints so I can get a copy. By the way, my favorite hockey team, the St Louis Blues, is in first in the Central division. See ya in the playoffs!!

  13. Mark says:
    25 November, 2003 at 10:51 am

Dude, it’s like TOTALLY monday. So out with it. Unless you meant next monday, in which case we may have to torture the informatino from your bloody corpse. N’stuff.
Sorry, the turtles… they GET to you. Just saw “Finding Nemo” last night. Funny how stuff like that can affect the way you talk.
Kinda like the time I spent an afternoon at Dave & Busters playing racing games with my friends, then got behind the wheel of my car. WHOA HORSEY!! I had to really concentrate to not drive like I had been for the last couple hours. And it was depressing how little acceleration I had compared to that virtual beast I’d been riding around in for so long.

  14. Stephanie says:
    25 November, 2003 at 10:55 am

In a division where there’s a 4 point spread between last and first, that’s just not really saying much is it Wil? 😉
The San Jose Sharks are 2 points out of last place and 2 points out of first in the Pacific Division. We are convinced that they are just trying to tie their way into the playoffs.
Here’s hoping the West Coast Cup stays in San Jose again this year.

Come back to Oregon for another book signing! I’ll skip out on work this time, I promise!!

Wil and Anne have an EPIC announcement, shouldn’t you say?

  17. Melinda G. says:
    25 November, 2003 at 11:05 am

I know how excited I was when I got my autographed book. Thinking about it- I’m still on cloud 9. I feel accomplished because I grew up with you on television and to have the autograph of someone you thought/(think) was/(is) a fantastic actor.. it just does something to yah. 🙂 Whether you know it or not, you have a large fanbase, and we’re extremely thankful that you’re cool enough to want to interact with us on a regular basis. 🙂 We’re happy that you’re not just another stuck up snobbish actor who could care less about the people who put him where he is today. Of course your book sold for $400.00- you’re one of the greats. 🙂

$400? Damn, that’s a whole lotta cash especially to us slackerish types.
Have fun at the convention. I so need to drive down to LA again. Lots of fun things going on in that neighborhood.
I’m in total suspense about the epic announcement on Monday!

  19. zettgrl says:
    25 November, 2003 at 11:10 am

actually, i think stephanie meant to call it the left coast cup, but yeah… we hope it will stay in san jose. because i sure don’t want to lug it all the way to the NHLBCC 2004 in toronto to hand it over to the kings or the ducks.
can’t wait to hear the announcement wil, and when you finish your house work, ask anne if you can come over and finish mine. 😉

  20. Brad Kimberly says:

Chris Hardwick is insanely funny. He was great on a short-lived UPN series called Guys Like Us. I personally think this is the funniest thing I saw on his website. Wil, we need an explanation for this:

  21. Coffee Addict says:

I was wondering if Chris Hardwick was the same one that hosted Trashed (the game show) on MTV, so I checked his site out… it looks like he’s the same guy (also hosted Singled Out)… but he omitted Trashed from his bio! WTF?!? Where’s the pride, man?

  22. Nick says:
    25 November, 2003 at 11:33 am

First off, I don’t know where everybody is, but over here, it’s Tuesday.
That being said, congrats to the winner of the book, it’s a great book, can’t wait for the next.
My favorite team is the Ottawa Senarghharhhargtors. Sorry, I guess choking is contagious… By the way, tied for last in the Northeast! Yeah!

  23. EllyLoo says:

Congrats on the sale, Wil! $400 for a book, and especially a first book, is AWESOME!!
As I write this, I’m preparing my Thanksgiving dinner two days early, due to my work schedule. Knowing that you and Anne are going to be working feverishly to get ready for Thursday, I’m including a humorous recipe for roast turkey that you might find amusing. (I’d be happy to email it, since I DO have a digital signature certificate, but since I use Windows XP, and you use Linux, I’m not quite sure how to email you, especially given the apparent length and complexity of your public key.) Anyhow, here ’tis:
HOW TO COOK A TURKEY (AUTHOR UNKNOWN):
    1) Go buy a turkey.
    2) Take a drink of whiskey (scotch) or Jack Daniels.
    3) Put the turkey in the oven.
    4) Take another 2 drinks of whiskey
    5) Set the degree at 375 ovens.
    6) Take 3 more whiskeys of drink.
    7) Turn oven the on.
    8) Take 4 whisks of drinky.
    9) Turk the bastey.
    10) Whiskey another bottle of get.
    11) Stick a turkey in the thermometer.
    12) Glass yourself a pour of whiskey.
    13) Bake the whiskey for 4 hours.
    14) Take the oven out of the turkey.
    15) Take the oven out of the turkey.
    16) Floor the turkey up off of the pick.
    17) Turk the carvey.
    18) Get yourself another scottle of botch.
    19) Tet the sable and pour yourself a glass of turkey.
    20) Bless the saying, pass, and eat out.
If you’d like me to add some instructions for stuffing the bird when cooked in this manner, let me know!
Seriously, Wil, have a happy Thanksgiving!
    Sincerely,
    Tom Nichol

Hope you and your family have a great Turkey Day!

GAH! We have to wait a whole week to find out?
    Time for rampant speculation:
    *VH1 series announcement
    *Bun in the oven
*Guest appearance in next Monday’s Strong Bad E-mail.
*Rick Berman has agreed to kiss your @$$.
*Have Yourself a Dancing Barefoot Christmas Spoken Word Album
    Am I getting warmer?

In my experience, ‘epic announcements’ tend to be pregnant wives. I hope I’m correct. How terribly exciting.

I agree with Brad Kimberly up above that a quick explanation of that graphic from Chris Hardwick’s site would be worthwhile….

WOW! I can’t believe that someone made such a high bet. Must be a great book. Although one thing bothers me, the only way you financially support your family is by using your “fans”. It’s pretty pathetic that you are still obsessive about the TNG days….get a real job! What are you planning to do in 20 years? Be a wannabe Shatner?

  35. Diane M. Martin says:
    25 November, 2003 at 2:11 pm

I know the announcement!!!!! Wil is going to be on E! True Hollywood Stories!!! (it’s only a matter of time 😉
Seriously–it would be cool if Wil was on The Actor’s Studio on Bravo. That would rock.

  36. RacerX says:

    LA Kings fan, right here!!
I live in Vancouver, Canada, so I get yelled at a lot when I wear my Palffy jersey around town, haha.

    EPIC…
    Electronically Published Internet Connection?
    Epic Games (That’d be UnREAL)
Education for Peace In Iraq Center
    Eclipse Perl Integration?
Epic Wheels…ok, this one is unlikely.
    How bout a hint…

    Wil,
This is not some mooshy touchy feely email, okay yeah it is. I just want to say thanks for being a great guy and being so honest in your writings. I wish I could be as honest about my foibles and shortcomings as you are. It takes a true man to be so open and willing to share true, meaningful emotion. You are impeccable with your word and that states alot about the man they come from.
Not a sci-fi geek or crazed fan, just a guy that happened to stumble into wil world and likes to browse about.

    But ANNE is!!

My guess is, he expects to send “Just a Geek” to the press by mon^H^H^Htues^H^H^H^H mid-December. 😉
(No pressure here Wil! Enjoy your thanksgiving.)
That or the VH-1 deal goes stellar. Or maybe, since it’s “epic”, Wil stars in Lord of the Rings IV: Sauron’s Revenge?
And jake, read around some more, there’s more to discover about Unca Willie than his TNG past. For instance, there’s his Shirt.

  47. Brad Kimberly says:
    26 November, 2003 at 3:17 am

Wil if the Kings are your fav, then if you are ever on the east coast you have to make it up to Manchester, NH to see the Monarchs play. There will be more than one name you’ll recognize out there on the ice, and they aren’t doing too badly this year either!
And if you do, let us know. We can make it Wil Wheaton fan night at the Verizon!

  49. CanadianKnight says:

So what’s my double signed one worth? Wil signed my signed copy at San Diego ComicCon, with the note that the first signing was on his dining room table. How about the Munchin shirt he signed? The humanity of it all, the beer I could buy and shut this damn brain up.
