50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

Good News, Bad News

  • Uncategorized

I've been seeing lots of messages on Twitter and Facebook from people who are really excited to come see me tell stories and perform at the upcoming Denver Comicon. I love it that so many people are excited to see me do my thing… and I feel terrible that I have to cancel my attendance this year.

I am under an NDA, so I can't disclose exactly why at the moment, but I got an absolutely AMAZING job that conflicts with the convention, and there just wasn't a way to make the schedules work out.

I don't cancel convention appearances lightly, because I know how disappointing it is for the people who are attending. I assure you that this isn't a ploy to win a game of Mystic Warlords of Ka'a, or even a bowling match… this is just something that happens from time to time when someone like me is lucky enough to land a dream job that conflicts with a planned trip out of town.

I'm really sorry, and I hope you still have a great time at the con. Hopefully, I'll be able to be there next year.

It’s too bad you have to cancel, but I CAN’T BELIEVE you finally got the Lugosi role in the long-delayed Dr. Acula reboot!
No? Hm. My Guesser has been acting funny lately. I need to take it into the shop.
In all honesty, here are the places my brain went for this big time role:
The Beyonder for a six-movie Avengers II suite.
A young Gary Gygax as a secret paranormal investigator in Trey Parker’s The Gygax Diaries
A serial killer of serial killer serial killers in Dexter: The Musical
Abraham Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln’s Night of the Lepus
Title role of The Klaus Nomi Story
The Travis Bickle role in Santa Clause 4: The Quickening
The Bruce Lee role in My Dinner with Andre 2: Ballistic [tagline: This time, it’s interpersonal!]
    Star Trek: Crusher’s Revenge

Well at least you didn’t tell us your meemaw passed away. That would have been unforgivable.
Congrats on the ubersecret job. I can’t wait to find out what it is!
Hope you can try to make it out to Dragon Con again. It was a blast seeing you there but your lines were outrageously long I wasn’t able to go to your table. East coast misses you.

The image of Wil as Klaus Nomi has ruined my brain forever. Thanks for that. 😛

    Wil,
Are you actually going to be the lower left corner on Hollywood Squares? Is that what the top secret project is?

    Shut up Tootie. 🙂

  7. MarkSchneider says:
    31 May, 2012 at 12:57 pm

True, but would he be The Doctor, a companion, or the regenerated Master?
    Any one would be cool.

  8. MarkSchneider says:

It better be pretty darn cool if it is going to take your place. Sparks McGee cool.

I say wait for the audiobook version. I have it and is it awesome listening to the “annotation.” Wil does an awesome job of reading the book. “let go – a requiem for Felix the Bear” is a starkly personal piece, and don’t listen to it while driving as it might make you cry.
As a matter of fact, if Wil updates the audio book, I will buy it again to see what the updated sections are. Yes, it is that good.

What would *REALLY* be cool for the secret project – Wil joining the SpaceX Dragon team.

Hey Wil, you have a designated receiver for any dice that people bring? I am sure several people have dice that wanted to give you. Will they be able to drop them off someplace and they will get them to you?

  12. XDPaul says:

Shoot! That wasn’t supposed to happen until I photoshopped Klaus onto a movie poster wearing a clown sweater.
    “He came from outer space…
    To save the human race.
    Wil Wheaton IS Klaus Nomi.
    SUMMER 2014”
The thing has blockbuster written all over it. Well, except the “block” and “-er” parts. We’ll fill in those bits later – maybe cameos by Ernest Borgnine and Mickey Rooney.
I’ve got to work on my pitch…I’m thinking this might be a Sony Pictures gig. Either that or RKO.

  13. XDPaul says:

Or the TARDIS. He’d be an awesome TARDIS. Nice and sarcastic.

  14. Wil says:
    31 May, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Yeah, I will have a way to collect and safely transport dice.

    ITT
Seems you are now “The Punisher” if you check out the, rather awful, Jason Aaron & Steve Dillon “Incredible Hulk #8 (2012)”
You may not agree but it was my first thought and I’ve seen other people comment on it around the web too.

  16. MarkSchneider says:
    31 May, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Isn’t the Tardis female? Or was it just that the Tardis was put into a female body?

ah, but what about those folks who were bringing an OmniBot?

They are finally starting principal photography on the secret $500m, Guillermo del Toro directed, Sparks McGee film that he gave up directing The Hobbit to develop.

I was going to travel all the way from the UK with my mint, still in box Wesley Crusher action figure, and violate my rule about using public facilities, but now I will swear revenge forever.

Hey, do you plan to come to either of the Chicago conventions? There’s Wizard World and C2E2. I would love to come see you, I’ve been a fan for awhile and I also believe that one can never have “enough dice”.

I reckon the job involves Wil acting as a consultant and a key character in a new TV show in which first contact with aliens is made and they seem aggressive until they are mellowed out by tasting homebrewed ale. However war then breaks out because they were about to get to level 10 in Munchkin then someone sicced a plutonium dragon on them. Or maybe that’s just my crazy ramblings.
Good luck with the new job Wil!

So happy for you! So sad for us. Perhaps you can make Milehicon.org this fall or Denver’s Comic Con next year. Or perhaps your Denver fans can get a mint in-box Wesley Crusher action figure?
I wish you the best and hope to hear more about this secret but awesome project. Staying tuned as always.

Just make sure to come to Dragon*Con and all will be well.

Well, crapola! I live in Longmont which is only about an hour away from Denver. This is the first con that I had any chance of going to since it is within driving distance. But you know what? I’m truly happy for you, and while you didn’t have to explain why you can’t go to the con it is very cool of you to do so. I’m sure that this new project is awesome, since you always choose super cool things to do. I wish you the best.

Well, Wheaton, at least this time you didn’t friggin’ blame it on your mee-maw… that’s a step in the right direction.

So did anybody else read this post and think “I’m with Starfleet, we don’t lie.” I do appreciate you being honest rather than just no showing though. Bad enough when people cancel, worse when they don’t bother to tell you that they have cancelled.

Hey Wil, this is off the subject, but I know you weren’t happy with the Republican bullies in the Wisconsin legislature getting rid of collective bargaining rights in a middle of the night rapid fire session where no one knew a vote was going to take place. Anyway, as you might know, Governor Walker is facing a recall on Tuesday, June 5. I believe that most people here in Wisconsin would rather not have this bully be governor, but despite the fact that we have “same day registration” to vote and no voter ID required (opening the door for anyone to register and vote on election day) most of the Democrat supporters sit out each election while the Republican cronies – to their credit – are always sure to vote. I was wondering if we could get this internet thing to work for us. Since you have like half the world following you on twitter, on June 5, could you please tweet: “Wisconsin residents: don’t like your Governor? Complaining’s not enough. Only voting will defeat the bully. Vote today and retweet!” Or something else encouraging people to vote.

Denver Comic Con is June 15-17th. It was announced on Wednesday that you would be hosting a 15 minute Post-Episode Webshows for FALLING SKIES called 2ND WATCH. The first episode will be LIVE and will air straight after the season 2 premiere of FALLING SKIES which is June 17. Is this why you had to cancel the con?
