50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

perfect system

  • Uncategorized

Home from San Francisco. Had a fantastic time up there. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world.
Arrived Sunday afternoon beneath sunny skies and puffy white clouds. Checked into hotel, and too a walk. Sat alone, in Union Square, watched young couples and familes pose for pictures in front of the giant lighted tree and missed my wife.
Ate Dinner with Loren and Kelly, coveted their flat screen TV.
Spent all day Monday with a camera crew and filmed a hilarious segment with Drew for Tech TV’s Unscrewed. It will air in a couple of weeks. Video should be streamed when the show airs, and is very much worth watching. Finished Dark Tower IV. I’m in love with Susan Delgado, and want to be Roland when I grow up.
Spent most of Tuesday with Drew, Storm, Heather, and her parents. Went to Alcatraz, froze nearly to death in the rain, took tons of pictures. Filed BBC report for Radio Five, taped show, drank Guinness in hotel bar with Drew until last call.
Confirmed suspicion, hatched long ago, that Drew is one of the greatest people on the planet. Wish we lived close enough to hang out often.
Slept in perfect eddy of open window and radiator. Fell asleep listening to rain and sounds of the city.
Arrived at airport early. Flight cancelled, flew out at 1130 instead of 1050. Started ‘Salem’s Lot on plane. Flight was windy as hell, very bumpy. Sat across aisle from two pilots in uniform, nervously looked at them for reactions whenever plane lurched too much.
Paid 19.00 in extended parking lot, sung U2 loudly with sunroof open on drive home.
In clean empty house now, catching up on 250 e-mails. Haven’t checked comments from previous entry, yet.
Unsure why I’m writing like this, but quietly pleased.

Hi… just wanted to drop in and say a friend of mine lent me the DVDs of the first season of TNG, and I thought of you. I’m having an enormous pleasure in watching these, especially the episodes with you in them. Glad you’re still around Wil.

Oh yeah, the Yankees failed to re-sign Pettitte! They also failed to sign Bartolo Colon. 🙂
In Cubs news: Mark Prior of the Cubs was named Pitcher of the year in an espn.com poll.

Writing in that style is very humble because you avoid using the word “I”. Talk in this manner to sound like a midwesterner, or tweak slightly for George Bush the elder.

Typing style strongly reminiscent of Candy in David R. Palmer’s ‘Emergence’, book strongly suggested.

Sitting in Union Square in December is one of the most amazing experiences you can have. Not for any particular WOW factor.. just.. sitting on the bench across from the tree. Watching the people flock by; shopping; going home; going to work. Time goes by.
Listening to the homeless band play on the ramp until late.
Watching the silver statue dance to his boombox.
Knowing that you don’t have to rush to be anywhere.
Knowing that you can walk two blocks up to Johnny Foleys and have many pints of Guiness and lose the winter chill.
Yes… I recommend that everyone who can, should go and experience that just once.

When I got to Union Square, the sun had just fallen behind the St. Francis hotel, so the marble steps were still warm, even though the air was quite cold.

It’s very Bridget Jones, this entry. Except without all the neurosis’ about weight and bad habits and men and stuff…
All your pictures in your photo blog made me miss San Fran sooo much. I just moved from the Bay Area (not my choice).
    Yay for Tech TV!

While you’re enjoying the sun, we here in the north east of the United States have to deal with snow, rain, fog and COOOOOOOOOLD. Glad that you had fun though.

Am suddenly reminded of the Secret Diaries of Cassandra Claire.
    http://home.nyu.edu/~amw243/diaries/
From the Secret Diary of Aragorn:
    Day One:
    Ringwraiths killed: 4. V. good.
Met up with Hobbits. Walked forty miles. Skinned a squirrel and ate it.
    Still not King.
    Day Four:
Stuck on mountain with Hobbits. Boromir really annoying.
    Not King yet.
    heh.

I just got back from a holiday in San Francisco, though we left before you got there – we took off on Saturday. We had a fantastic time, and it’s now my favourite American City. I could live there quite happily I think.
I took a few pics too. Check them out if you want:

It was a bit damp at times, but being from the UK I’m used to that ;o)

    Sjweet.
I’m glad you enjoyed visiting San Francisco- But don’t ever go that long without posting again 😉
I used to live in SF actually 🙂 Now I’m all the way here in Brussels, Belgium. Where the sun never shines. I miss the weather in California, here it’s always raining. Heh.
    Anyway. I’m done. Later.

As an airline pilot I try to avoid position or deadheading on a flight while in uniform because everyone does what you do, stares to look for a reaction to every noise or bump. Trust me, to get “dangerous” the bumps have to get so bad things are flying in the cabin and you can’t see straight. Bumps mean nothing, noises mean nothing… drink a beer (but not so many as you start harassing the Flight Attendants) and relax. 🙂

Am big fan also of San Francisco, was there a couple of years ago. V. nice. Am not sure but am thinking perhaps you were actually reading Bridget Jones’s Diary while on plane. Is full of sentences that start like this. Plus abbreviations like v. for “very”. Is v. fast way to record thoughts, feelings etc. Also funny in v. lovely Brit. way.

I ran away from SF in May and live in Southern California now. But thanks Wil; your writing made me actually miss home for the first time in months.

I am sorry I missed your stay. I, unfortunately had a small hint of your stay here in SF. I work at a hotel, in union square. Upon preparing for the days arrivals, your name did come across and the “Oh my god, we have a celebrity staying with us??” wave of excitement did hit me. Unfair that I have this knowledge, is true….but what can you do when you work a graveyard shift and find yourself with your normal mundane boring tasks??
Suffice to say, I am glad you enjoyed your stay in the city…minding the horrid weather we have. I feel honored to have had you in my hotel and I hope it not the last time you decide to visit.
    Many wishes…
