50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

perfect system

  • Uncategorized

Home from San Francisco. Had a fantastic time up there. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world.
Arrived Sunday afternoon beneath sunny skies and puffy white clouds. Checked into hotel, and too a walk. Sat alone, in Union Square, watched young couples and familes pose for pictures in front of the giant lighted tree and missed my wife.
Ate Dinner with Loren and Kelly, coveted their flat screen TV.
Spent all day Monday with a camera crew and filmed a hilarious segment with Drew for Tech TV’s Unscrewed. It will air in a couple of weeks. Video should be streamed when the show airs, and is very much worth watching. Finished Dark Tower IV. I’m in love with Susan Delgado, and want to be Roland when I grow up.
Spent most of Tuesday with Drew, Storm, Heather, and her parents. Went to Alcatraz, froze nearly to death in the rain, took tons of pictures. Filed BBC report for Radio Five, taped show, drank Guinness in hotel bar with Drew until last call.
Confirmed suspicion, hatched long ago, that Drew is one of the greatest people on the planet. Wish we lived close enough to hang out often.
Slept in perfect eddy of open window and radiator. Fell asleep listening to rain and sounds of the city.
Arrived at airport early. Flight cancelled, flew out at 1130 instead of 1050. Started ‘Salem’s Lot on plane. Flight was windy as hell, very bumpy. Sat across aisle from two pilots in uniform, nervously looked at them for reactions whenever plane lurched too much.
Paid 19.00 in extended parking lot, sung U2 loudly with sunroof open on drive home.
In clean empty house now, catching up on 250 e-mails. Haven’t checked comments from previous entry, yet.
Unsure why I’m writing like this, but quietly pleased.

Man, you were in San Francisco & I didn’t even see you? I moved to California a year ago, and the only celebrity I’ve seen so far is the guy from Haiku Tunnel.
I so want my money back.
Glad you enjoyed the city, tho.

Checked this blog. Like what I see. Laughed at one part: “Sat across aisle from two pilots in uniform, nervously looked at them for reactions whenever plane lurched too much.” Did the same thing the first time I flew but it was stewardesses reactions I looked for. Decides to say to Wil, “Nice to have you back.”

Like to read Stephen King huh? He’s got a great style. Have you read “IT” ? The best story ever. “Ace Merril” is in that story too.

Yeah… Susan is a hottie. I’ve been attracted to movie characters many times, but being attracted to a person who only exists in print is something new… King has some talent. =)

Amused by tendency of posters to mimic the writing style of your last post. Decided to follow suit.
Wanted to point out that the current Slashdot poll has quiet tribute to your nickname for Shatner.
Don’t really have anything else to say, so I’ll stop here.

It almost sounds like you’re filing a shorthand report, or even speaking into a microcassette recorder so you can do dictation later.
Gotta love those moments of temperature bliss. Too cold to do that here in PA…

Sounds like a fun trip, I always wanted to go to San Francisco in the winter, it would be a nice break from the reality of harsh Conneticut weather!!

LOL That is by far one of the best entries I’ve ever read!! I loved the way you laid it all out… and especially the bit about the 2 pilots. I know that feeling. Every time I fly and the plane gets a bit rough, I immediately search for the face of a flight attendant in hopes of their expression calming me. Either that or I simply squeeze the hell out of my husband’s hand. =)
    Anyway, Happy Holidays!

    Hi Wil,
King does indeed own. Salems Lot is one of my favorite early books of his. I am looking forward to picking up DT5 just to see how Father Callahan comes across and into Rolands world.
I could talk shit about King for half a day.
Ace isn’t in IT by the way Josie. That’s Needful Things that Ace also appears in. Henry is the child bully type guy in IT.
The Stand dominates all his other books anyway. Plus Flagg is the protagonist which should make DT junkies happy.

*Tries to act all professional, having worked at an international Airport for years, and has many Pilot friends*
Speaking of flights and pilots, I forgot to mention that Flight Attendants and Flight Crews usually won’t react to a problem in a manner that would alarm passengers. Notwithstanding, there are a few things you should listen for when flying, as stated in my Soapbox .sig, and if you hear any them…well, start praying!
The top 5 things you never want to hear from the flight deck of a commercial airliner:
    5) Flight Engineer: I don’t know!
    4) Captain: I don’t know either!
    3) First Officer: What does this button do?
    2) Captain: Hehehe! Watch this!
    1) All of them: OH SH****T!!!!
(Airport humor, as told by one of the aforementioned Pilot friends LOL)

    Heh, nice entry!
And I love your choice of reading. The Dark Tower series is probably my all time favorite series of books (followed closely by the Earth’s Children Series). I haven’t gotten around to getting the 5th book just yet, but hopefully will soon.
San Francisco, huh? Man, I wish I could go somewhere warm. I need to get away from this freezing Pennsylvania weather.

Damn, it’s too bad you weren’t up here (in San Jose) next week instead of this week. I’d’ve totally bought you tickets to a GREAT improv show. Heck, you’ve even emailed back and forth with one of the members. Ah well, some other time.
Oh, and if you’re desperate, I went all fan-boy in my blog (givemamasomesugar.com) last week.

You were there during the cold snap, it’s been chilly in the bay area the past few days. I was unaware that Tech Tv was filmed in SF. You have a number of fans in NorCal, maybe you should do a show there. Stacey’s book store, or even better, Cody’s, in Berkeley and SF. Not quite as cool as Powell’s in Portland, but worthy of a visit from an aspiring young writer.

  44. Jack V. says:
    10 December, 2003 at 11:36 pm

You finished Dark Tower IV and started… _Salem’s Lot_? Why not _Wolves of the Calla_?
Funny thing about that… My libary put a copy of DTV on shelf before it was supposed to be released, so I finished it the day it was released.

  45. Griff says:
    10 December, 2003 at 11:46 pm

How can we (us in the UK) get to see Tech TV’s Unscrewed?.
    Somebody send me a tape!
Also, had a flight where the plane hit an air pocket in a thunderstorm, the stewardess’s face was NOT comforting and the words “**** that was a big one” that came from the mouth of the steward she was standing next to made me fight back a very unmanly whimper.

lessee….woke up this morning. checked email to see if anyone wrote me during the night. I got one from my mom saying that she doesn’t need to fly to SF to get her visa to fly to China and am really excited! Went to school and taught a wonderful class to what I’ve thought is my worst all semester long. Am reconsidering my opinion of that class. Had a great Chinese lesson that involved putting pointy horns on an illustration in a book. Made my teacher laugh. Went to the activity center to do tutoring and ended up watching “Scrooged.” Had some dinner with a coupla my students (Chinese noodles that are thick enough to be spaghetti noodles!). Taught another class that also went really well. Came home in the cold wind and almost rain to turn on compute and find that Wil Wheaton is home again and updatinig his blog. yay!!!
    Welcome back Wil.
