Quoth Professor Farnsworth, “Great News, everybody!”
Uhh, I mean “Good news, everyone!” (I lose 1d4 geek points, but get +1 for trying to quote from memory, and not cheating by using Google, so *roll, roll* 1d4-1=3. Oh, of course I roll the highest possible when it’s a penalty. whatever)
I just found out that O’Reilly will have Dancing Barefoot in stores on March 4th!! I’m not sure what sort of media ORA has planned, but I’ll be sure to update WWdN readers when I know. I hope they’ll put together some in-stores, like the ones I did with Monolith Press last summer.
Many of you have asked if I’ll be at Creation’s Grand Slam convention in Pasadena next month. I wasn’t sure, so I called Adam Malin at Creation earlier today.
We had a very nice conversation, and Adam invited me to come to the show! The final details are yet to be worked out, but I’ll be there to read from and sign Dancing Barefoot, geek out at stuff, and be part of fandom, which is always fun for me. Don’t tell anyone, but I may also have a super-secret project to debut, as well.
Also, after the fantastic success of Earnest Borg9’s performance at Grand Slam last year, Adam Malin asked me if we would bring our show to Las Vegas in July. Right now, we have a “handshake” deal to appear. I just have to make sure the scheduling works out for everyone else in EB9. Heh. I love calling it “EB9” because it sounds like some sort of spiffy code. Sadly, it’s just further evidence of my explosive geekery.
When I know more details about all these things, I’ll post them here.
Oh, and this entry’s title comes from a really fun band called The Wag. If the Beatles and the Cowsils got it on backstage at Ed Sullivan, The Wag would totally be their love child.

do you ever come to the east coast to do shows? specifically reading, pa?
Ack! Wil, you’ve triple posted. Oops.
Heh. Nevermind.
Sweet action! Now I can finally get a copy and get my laminated membership card to this posse and quit being a poser.
I totally think you should come back to Tulsa this summer…but I’m selfish.
I talked with the Tulsa organizers,Abby, and they aren’t going to have me back this year. I’m extremely disappointed (not just because the con was so great, but because the road trip there and back was so much fun) but I was told that I’ll be invited for 2005.
Congrats! Will your group ever come to New York? I love the Wag too!
Is O’Reilly going to help you speak at the L.A. Times Festival of Books (http://www.latimes.com/extras/festivalofbooks/). It’s this free event that the have at UCLA every year with literary panels, books signings and lots of other book stuff. Might be worth checking out since it’s right around when the book comes out.
Thanks for the reply, Wil…but that fucking sucks!! Guess I’ll have to be one of those crazies who follow you to the next nearest location. But when you meet me, promise you won’t laugh…:o)
No offense Wil, but Professor Farnsworth says, “Good news, everyone!” not “Great news, everybody!”
Sorry, but Futurama is the downtrodden genius child, of Groening, and so I must protect it.
*marks his calender*
Sweet! I can finally go get myself a copy of Dancing Barefoot! Rock on! I’ll be spending March 4th scouring bookstores across Central Pennsylvania for it.
Wil, you really should do some east coast appearances. You do have fans out here, ya know! We know your schedule is pretty demanding and you often can’t make it out this way, which is cool. But don’t forget us, OK? Cool.
Meantime, to quote Professor Farnsworth… “Oh my, yes.”
Uh-oh – looks like the link to Monolith Press is broken there…?
Wil,
Way cool all the stuff that’s happening for you (book publishing, con appearances). However, I still think the coolest thing is what you and Anne are doing for Kris. Geek out all you want and make a trip up to San Jose sometime…you’re close enough!
Hey – I second that trip to San Jose. Silicon Valley is like the mecca of geekdom. When are you coming Wil?
The last sci-fi con I went to left me a bit mentally scarred (oh God.. the furries), but the lure of being there for the debut super-secret project is almost too much to resist… damn you, Wheaton!
hey wil!
that is GREAT news about the book! at last, i’ll be able to get my hands on one! YEY!!!
anyway…sounds like things are going well for you! good luck with everything!
take care

I’ve never been to a SF convention, but I’m a huge Buffy and ST:TNG fan… So I was wondering if this is a one day event or are there different speakers everyday?
Julie, I’m from Reading too! What are the odds?
I’m curious, I’ve never been to a convention, so how does that work when people come to see Star Trek people and they perform comedt troupe stuff?
I mean, does it go over well? I always imagined the people just wanted to hear Star trek annecdotes, etc…
So they don’t mind you reading form a book and doing comedy?
Do the other stars do other stuff? What kind of things do they do?
Hey, Wil, great news about the convention! I’ve been hoping they’d put you on the bill–was also hoping EB9 (heh…I’m in on the spiffy code) would be the Saturday night event, but then I ended up with a concert to go to that night, so now I’m glad I’ll be missing the “dessert fantasy” instead of your show.
To Lizette and buntz…Creation’s Grand Slams are three-day events, usually structured with a couple of different things going on at the same time; for example, WFS might be answering questions in the main hall while Wil reads excerpts from “Just a Geek” in a smaller theater–and we know where all the monkeys will be if that’s how the scheduling works out! The con’s daytime hours are pretty much reserved for Q&A with the celebs, promotional features, autographs, etc. Friday and Saturday evenings are when performances take place, like the play with Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillps on Friday night. These are an extra charge over the regular admission, unless you buy a package deal.
Anyway, it’s worth attending for the experience alone–no, you don’t have to go in costume, but many do, and the mix of the truly good and the truly awful is fascinating–but I’m guessing Wil will update us on the day(s) he’ll be there so you can buy a single-day ticket for the right day!
Yay!! Wil’s at the Grand Slam!
Hey Wil you ever think of doing some college promotions? Cause seeing you over here in Arizona would be pretty cool!
Rawk On! \m/
I guess I will be making a trip to LA next month after all.
Oh and if it’s possible, can you be scheduled on Friday or Saturday since I will probably not be able to get Sunday off from work?
I’ll bring Brandi with me.
Seriously.
Looks like a Vegas Trip is in order as well.

First of all, I am so excited, Wil, that my hands are shaking. When I first saw “52 Seaview” as your entry title, I thought, “What a coincidence.” What an idiot I am!! LOL I kept reading, and was VERY pleasantly surprised. Thank you SO much for putting that blurb on your page, and for putting up a link to my band’s site. I always knew you were cool in your geekdom, but this goes way beyond. I’m glad you liked the CD- we’ve got another one coming out soon. I’d love to send that to you too- to Monolith again? Also, Emmie, yes, my band has played in NY. We don’t have anything there in the near future, but we are starting to play in Philly. This Friday night at about 9:30 we are playing at the Broadway Central Cafe in South Amboy. We’d love to see you there! 🙂 I don’t want to take up too much space here- this is Wil the Wonderful’s site, not mine- but may I direct anyone who’s interested in my band to our website, in case Wil’s link suddenly goes down (that sounds painful) or something: http://www.thewagband.com And Emmie, I’m very interested in learning how you heard of us, if you’ve seen us, etc! Please e-mail me at [email protected] And Wil, thank you again for doing that- I know that a zillion people read your site every day, and it was really great of you to put that on your site. Lots of free publicity- thank you so much!!! 😀
Love, Alicia

Hey Wil,
How about Comic-con in San Diego this year? Too far ahead to know?
Hey Wil,
There is a discussion going on over at Peter David’s site about the cancellation of “Enterprise” and I thought you’d appreciate one poster’s submission of what he thought would save the franchise:
Here it is. The Show that will Save Star Trek.
Dig it: “Star Trek: Crusher.”
That’s right. Wes Crusher, still amped up with his space-and-time hopping abilities he had at the end of Next Gen.
He zips from Trek past to future! He appears in episodes not meant for him (as in the Tribbles DS9 episode).
He rights wrongs! Fights Q! Gets laid by serious foxy babes!
Man. I was joking. But this is a good idea. I’m telling you. I’m TELLING YOU!!!
And it wouldn’t be another “We’re on a ship” show! More like James Bond meets Quantum Leap! With more boobs!
Oh My God…March 4th is my birthday!!!
I can’t think of a better birthday present…
And I multi-second the Silicon Valley (or the way the economy’s going, more like Silly Con Valley) trip for you and Anne. I’m probably old enough to be your…well, aunt at least, but we could talk geek-speak (I’m a GIN — Geek In Training) while our respective spouses smile and nod their heads…
March 4, huh? Groovy — I can head out and pick up my own copy instead of continually swiping my roommate’s.
It would be nice if they’d send you out on book tour here on the East Coast, though for your sake I would hope they’d wait until spring when it’s nice instead of times like now when it’s bitterly cold and evil.
Congrats on the O’Reilly! Ever thought of coming to Scandanavia to do a book signing–Finland in particular? Please? =)
Oh, I missed this. Honestly, I’m not sure if this was for me or for Wil, but in the first message Julie asked about coming to Reading, PA to do shows. Julie, if you’re talking about my band, yes, we do go to Philly- we have some shows lined up there. Please e-mail me at [email protected] for more info! 🙂 And Wil, thanks again for putting our info on your site- you’re too cool! 🙂

Congrats on the O’Reiley thing. I’ll definitely pick up a copy at my local brick-and-mortar store. I would go to my local “independent” bookstore, but they were really snotty to me when I suggested that they carry DB when it was still just Monolith Press, and so I think I’ll get it at Waldenbooks instead.
By the way, when I went to the DB link at O’Reiley, three of the four “related” books are User Friendly collections–cool!
