We went to visit Kris in the hospital today. Her spirits were up and she looked great. She spent the week doing her radiation treatments and did her final chemo on Saturday. Today was a day of rest as far as any treatment goes. Tomorrow is the big day. Transplant day. I will be donating platelets to her tomorrow as she will need a great deal of these after her transplant. Kris wrote something down that she wanted me to post for her. So this is from Kris.
A note of thanks to all
To each one of you: for every dollar, for every good wish and prayer and especially for monkey mojo, I say a great big thank you.
Anne brings me your comments regularly and no matter what my day has been like, I read them. I sometimes laugh, always cry and am touched by how remarkable human kindness can be.
You are great to support me and our cause for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Wow! Over $12,000! I am truly amazed. All blood cancer patients will benefit from this.
Anne and Wil are incredible friends and not just because of this. My wish back to all of you is that you may find true friendship and love in your lives and stay healthy and happy. I am so blessed to have these two in my corner-I hope they know how much I love them.
I’m doing alright. Radiation has kicked my butt — but I kick harder! Monday is transplant day. I am determined to beat this. I will see my children grown and I will grow old with my husband!
Again, thanks to all . . .
Sincerely from the heart,
Kris
A Note from Wil: We’re about halfway to our first milestone of $25,000, and it’s only been ten days! Thank you all for your support.
I was really happy to see Kris today. She looked remarkably healthy, and her spirits were very high.
I can’t say for sure, but I believe that all the positive energy (prayers, mojo, good thoughts, whatever you want to call it) is not flying off into outer space.
50,000 monkeys at 50,000 typewriters are making a difference. 🙂
Best wishes to Kris. I had a friend who recently fought (and unfortunately lost) a cancer battle, but he fought the good fight.
I do know that these treatments are incredibly hard, and although I cannot say I know exactly how Anne and Kris feel, I can certainly empathize and provide support.
I also encourage your readers to please look up and donate to the National Brain Tumor Foundation
http://braintumor.org/ in honor of my friend Joe Ferguson, which is a worthy cause as well, for their support and education they provide for patients, their families and friends.
Kris–
Glad to hear you’re doing good and getting through this with what I hope is only minimal kicking damage to your backside. And if I happen to run into Cancer on the street or something, I’ll beat it up for you AND steal its wallet.
Mojo mojo mojo!
Missy
Were you going to put a PayPal button for this, or did I just miss it? I’m scared to donate for fear of getting on their mailing list for time immemorial, but I would toss in some cash to a PayPal account.
Hey Kris (and Wil and Anne)!
I’m so very glad you’re doing well (or at least, as well as can be)! I’m continuing to send my thoughts, prayers, monkey mojo, and as much energy as I can spare your way. 🙂
Wil and Anne, you both totally rock! Thank you so very much for keeping us posted/updated on Kris’ health, condition, feelings, etc. You both make this world a *much* better place to live in. 🙂
Keep kicking Kris! All my thoughts, prayers and mojo are sent your way for Monday and your quick recovery afterwards. You are not only blessed with friends like Wil and Anne but they are blessed to have someone as strong as you in their life. And they will continue to have you in their life because you will beat this. I say so!! 🙂 We will all kick cancer’s butt in one shape or form. *hugs*
Once more we beg you, Wil, put up a Paypal button! I actually have a charity budget that I put into my Paypal account monthly (since most charities that inspire me now have a clickybutton), and I’ve been saving it for you.
Let me give your friend money!
YAY! Hugs to Kris and Anne and Wil!!!!!
Hope your health will continue to improve, Kris, and again, all the best, all my mojo and prayers and all my love to you guys.
And yes… I holler PayPal once more, luvs!

Anne,Wil– thank you for sharing Kris’s battle with the community at WWDN. I haven’t been able to contribute monetarily yet, but I put up a special avatar that will stay up awaiting good news. I tried to link to the image here, I’m not sure if it worked or not
Dear Kris,
I wish you all of the best today, your spirit is an inspiration to all of us. Anne and Wil have been generous to share their lives with us, and through them we have come to know you as well. We’re all thinking of you today.
Love,
Samantha

Kris,
Best of luck today! Sending Okie Monkey Mojo to you in droves.
Anne & Wil,
Your bravery and compassion continue to inspire. Good luck with the platelets.
Anne and Wil – Thank you for being such good friends and caring human beings. The world needs more people like you in it…
Kris – Best of luck on the transplant! I’m sending all the mojo i can muster your direction… my mom in law just finished her radiation and is just finishing her chemo so I know how tough this is… But I also know that all the good wishes and love really help…
Best Wishes and Warm Fuzzy Thoughts from Oregon!
Take care, lady!
Oh, Kris! How lovely to hear from you! May I thank you? You are an inspiration, and your life is truly touching mine! I am suffering from some health problems right now, and every morning when I get up, I check on the donations. While I would definately rather you and others weren’t going through what you are, your spirits and the love they inspire, help me too.
Kick much butt today!!
Thank Anne, for sharing yourself also! And to you Wil, for bringing it to us.
Best of Luck! I’m sure you can beat this thing, I’ve known many that have. Cancer, like anything else, can be beaten with enough determination and faith, which you obviously have. My family has been hit with cancer also, and I know every little bit of support helps, money, prayer, kind words, anything. Hang in there unil you have this thing licked!
wow, it is just wonderful to hear from you Kris! It warms my heart to know that we have helped you in any way no matter how big or small.
I hope you continue to use the strength and love that is being sent to you from all of us to help get you through this. We are keeping you in our thoughts and continuing to send you healing mojo.
I am glad Anne is passing our messages on to you. Stay Strong.

Keeping the good mojo flowing…
Good luck today, Kris! Mojo galore from my little corner of the planet. Hopefully after today, you’ll get a good prognosis and be able to catch a bit of a breather. Stay strong, we’re all behind you!
To Wil and Anne: You guys rule. I’d say give Kris our love, but you have been, which is awesome. Me, personally, I’m proud to be a wee-tiny part of this Mojo-Karma-Love-Fest. Every little bit helps, but it’s you two that make it all come together. Good People Awards for both of you!
Nobody gives monkey mojo like Wil’s posse. We will keep it up, and think of a brave lady having major surgery today. I say today cos I’m in New Zealand and it’s already Tuesday here, so…hopefully I’m in time to wish you all the best.
*MAJOR MOJO*
Anne/Kris,
Nicolle and I have a lot of family history of cancer–including an uncle of mine who had breast cancer, resulting in me having lumps removed at the age of 15-16. Funny, but not at the same time. The scars do make for great ice breakers…when I was single and in shape. Now, mostly, they serve as reminders…
I wouldn’t pretend to tell you any of this is easy or fun–in fact, I’ve witnessed long-term results that aren’t pleasing (my mother is a chronic pain sufferer), but I’ve also seen plenty of results that are full recoveries / full remissions.
Almost all of the recovery/remission results came from people with great attitudes and a strong will to fight–something that appears very evident in Kris, and something that she has in her friends and family, as well.
That makes a tremendous difference, and I urge you to keep it up and will continue to pull for you, as well.
Peace.
what a coincidence – I just did apheresis platelet donation on Friday. I urge more people to check it out if they have a couple of hours to spare. Though ‘normal’ platelets for trauma cases can be obtained from whole blood donations it’s better for patients who need lots of platelets (chemo/radiation) to get them from single donors.
I am glad you are doing well Kris. I hope and pray that you will make it threw it and even though all of us don’t know you in person we know you are a wonderful person because you have friends that are willing to do something soo great to help you out. Wil and Ann are great people. You can tell from what they are doing. I will try my best to be at that walk a thon in June. Thats what I want to do for my graduation get away. I want to be there and say I did something that will help save lives. I don’t think there could be anything better that someone could do for a person, but help to save there life and in the process help to save other peoples life as well. Best wishes to you Kris!
Hello Kris,
You seem like you have wounderful friends.great Support system with family and friends. I remeber what it was like when my step-father was Diagnosed with a boon cancer. for 3 years it was very hard for all of us 7 kids.Mom even more. He had hard time coping with the cancer that he almost did something that sacared us all and with the support of his family and friends.he is been out of remition for 8 years now. I pray and hope that will be the same for you Kris. Good luck.
All I can say is this; ^_^
(And we’ll try and put something in the pot as soon as we can)
Hey Kris, my auntie is going through radiation therapy for breast cancer as I type this and it’s been a tough time for my family and I… so when I saw what Anne had posted i’ve been trying to keep up to date with you. What Wil and Anne are doing for you and for charity is unbelieveable and I can only hope that one day I can do the same. I wish you and your family all the love and my prayers from over here in little old Wales. I only wish I could do more. Again, all my love Helen xx
Hi Ann!
Thanks for the Kris update… I hope you give us an update on how your platelet donation went today.
I second/third/fourth/n-th the request for a PayPal button. I’ll happily donate as well, but I’d prefer to not have to give out my email address or make any accounts.
Kris,
A dear teacher of mine years ago told me a story about a little boy under the tutelage of a wise man. The boy was frustrated and tired of struggling – he wanted everything in life to be handed to him, simply and easily. The wise man gave the boy a cocoon and told him that inside, a little butterfly was waiting to emerge. The butterfly would be his once it left the cocoon – but he warned the boy not to help the butterfly get out.
Days later, the butterfly made a small tear through the cocoon and furtively tried to split the enclosure open enough to escape. It struggled, beating its wings against the cocoon walls, and the boy took pity on it and held the cocoon open for the insect. It crawled out, tried to fly and instantly fell to the ground.
Crushed, the boy told the wise man what had happened. The man replied, “I told you not to help the creature along. He needed to struggle out of the cocoon himself to build up strength in his wings in order to survive. Sometimes we have to push through the difficult to fully experience the good. Many times in life we are faced with obstacles that seem insurmountable. We can give up, or we can keep beating our wings, because once we do emerge from the cocoon, we will be that much stronger.”
This is just your cocoon, Kris. And with that positive attitude and determination, I know you will emerge a beautiful butterfly, ready to take on the world.
My thoughts are with you
Um, I’ve never posted here before, so this feels a little weird.
But I really wanted to recommend the book Share the Care: How to Organize a Group to Care for Someone Who Is Seriously Ill by Cappy Capossela & Sheila Warnock; Fireside, December 12, 1995; ISBN: 0684811367.
It’s got materials and advice for planning, logistics, emotional issues, medical issues, and problem solving.
It’s funny and kind, supportive and gentle, sympathetic but no nonsense.
Everyone should read it, because everyone will – sooner or later – have to deal with serious illness in their own life or in the lives of those close to them. The creation of a support group helps take the pressure off the family of the person who is ill and gives the person’s friends Something To Do. And getting past that feeling of helplessness is a good thing.
The sickness of someone close to you is an utterly humbling experience.
My best wishes to Kris, her family, and her friends.
Regards,
Kelly J.
Kris-
You have such an awesome way of thinking! I’m sure that with an attitude like your’s, you’ll beat this thing and do all the things you want and more.
I’m sending all my spare mojo your way, Kris! I just wish I had spare money to give…
your faith and bravery inspires us kris, keep it up:)
wil and anne: your kindness inspires us. keep that up too:)
Congrats & u have my contibution! My father was diagnosed w/colon cancer about 6 mos. ago and I think that anything that helps to advance cancer research is worth of a moment of thought and a kindness of heart…not to mention a donation of *any* amount!!
I am so happy that your friend Kris is doing well with treatment she is lucky to have friends like you Guys!:)
THANK YOU for participating in Team in Training. I lost my dad to Leukemia when I was 21 (he was 47). He was actively involved in researching his own disease after he was diagnosed but passed away three years later. My family and I appreciate your efforts to raise money for this cause.
Wendy (Team in Training, Chicago Chapter)
first time poster, but this subject was enough to pull me out of the woodwork. there’s another way to help too. There are thousands of people like Kris around the world. suppose for every $10 Wil and Anne raise one of us joins the Bone Marrow Registry in their country? that’s 2500+ more options for people who must turn to an unrelated marrow donor. There are medical restrictions but i imagine that enough of us meet them to make a difference.
Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide partner Registries
I’m so glad to hear the treatments are going well. Kris, it’s fantastic that you’re keeping your spirits up, and I hope that all of these little messages of support–and all the support we’re sending in non-textual ways–helps, and keeps helping. Anne, thanks for keeping us all updated. Kris stays in my thoughts. Wil, thanks for using your blog for such a great purpose. You’re all strong, wonderful people and an inspiration to me.
