oscillate wildly

I’m supposed to turn in my JAG manuscript on Friday, and I’m still poking away at the Dancing Barefoot chapter, and I haven’t even gotten to that part when I print it out double-spaced and make all those “red pen” changes that I’d like to make before my editor sees it. Plus, I have been given the honor of writing the foreward foreword (see how I finally spelled that right? \m/ sigh. ) for a Knights of the Dinner Table collection, which I need to turn in tomorrow.
It’s a good thing that I like to be busy, because . . . HOLY CRAP I JUST GOT TWO TEEN TITANS SCRIPTS FOR FRIDAY!!
I’m beyond excited. I get to be Aqualad in a two-part episode! It’s a full-on cliffhanger, even, and one of them is written by Marv Wolfman!
You know, I am the luckiest guy in the world. I wake up next to a beautiful woman who loves me every single day, I have two wonderful stepkids, I get paid to do what I love, and I get to share my good fortune with WWdN readers all over the world — I know for a *fact* that without your support and encouragement over the years, none of this career success would be happening.
When I was a teenager, I’d always sign pictures with the phrase, “Follow your dreams.” How cool is it that I am doing exactly that?!

    GREAT stuff. This is my first comment — I’ve been reading the blog for about a week now after O’Reilly mentioned that you’re a bona fide “geek” (welcome to the club).
    I think you hit the nail on the head about being lucky. What more can you ask for than the love of a good woman, the love of your kids (that’s kick-ass cool btw) and a job that you enjoy doing….
    Yeah, yeah, rich would be nice, but that entails a whole NOTHER bunch of problems….

(Hey, we may be a webzine about comics, but that’s not ALL we’re about ^_~) So you read KotDT! That rawks, man! ^_^ Anyway, Trish told us about your books and yer blog, so here I am ^_^
    Hey, have you gotten to actually talk to Marv Wolfman? And if you have, he wouldn’t happen to have mentioned anything to you in passing about the Elfquest movie, huh? If it ever gets out of production hell, maybe you could do a voice for it? ^_^

  10. It is possible to follow your dreams, and get there. I wanted to be a professor of astronomy and write science fiction novels, and I’m doing it. The curse of the human condition is to never be satisfied with what we have, however. What have you done lately, sort of thing. You’re pushing on JAG, new acting jobs, and more — what you’re doing really well is appreciating what you have and appreciating your efforts to move forward. I’m working on that myself.

    sidenote: I can’t believe after 60+ comments, nobody has said anything about your killer Smiths references for titles. “Oscillate Wildly” is one of my all time favorite songs by them. [“London” is their most aggressive, if not one of their shortest ones that I love.]

    Hey, let us know if you meet Brian Posehn on the voice-acting circuit. He’s done stuff for “Clerks,” and has a regular gig on “Mission Hill.” He’s a hilarious stand-up, and was great on “Mr. Show.”

    For what it’s worth, I think if you’d have started your piece for the magazine with a topic(thesis) paragraph, you would have greatly increased your chances of being included….your sentiments about Cobain’s life, attitude, and music, and how his addictions colored those things, were heartfelt, poingant,and insightful-as your best writing always is–but I think they were buried to deeply in the piece. Your first paragraph is a very good second paragraph. This, of course from someone who’s never been paid to write to someone who has, so…..like I said, FWIW
