I have fallen in love with this bad ass ambient orb that goddess Jen from Think Geek sent me. I love it so much, I think I’m going to buy a few more and put them all over my house. I set my orb to reflect the weather (because, you know, walking outside to see how hot it is would be too much work), and it’s currently bright red, because it’s over 100 degrees here in Pasadena. Goodtimes.
Do any WWdN readers have one of these? If so, have you developed any special applications for it? I don’t quite grok the developer info (I guess I “gr-” it).

My boyfriend thinks it sucks, that it’s useless, and above all, that they are a waste of money. I happen to like the Orb and Weather Beacon greatly but now I’m hesitant to buy one because he’ll shake his head and tell me it’s stupid.
Time to get a new boyfriend. That one’s a jerk if he’ll say something that makes you happy is stupid.

  3. If the orb could monitor the menstral cycle of your wife/girlfriend, turning red at the appropriate moments, I would buy one for EVERY CORNER of EVERY ROOM in my house.

  4. Spencer, I had the exact same reaction. Nobody else here knows (or uses) “grok”???? Guess nobody reads Heinlein anymore. Although personally, I’m a LeGuin fan. Talk about diametrically opposed.
Oh, and I want an orb thingy too. 🙂

  5. wil, if you still do any geocaching, maybe you could use the orb to help you find the caches easier.

    hi wil!
last time i was through here i got distracted by a link to geocaching.com and never managed to make it back. my loss. i have spent the last few days reading the archives and suddenly realized that i envy those who stuck around to share this incredible journey with you.
yes, i *am* a lameass dorkette with no life 🙂
back when you were *that other person*, i always hoped TPTB would suddenly realize all the opportunities they were missing with respect to character development. I suspect that had Mr. Rodenberry been in better health things would have been different.
but actually i rather the like the way things turned out.
damn. that sounds so conceited without an explanation. but i don’t think i want to dump the 2 yrs worth of comments i have accumulated into the first message i send. most aren’t really pertinent anymore and some would seem downright freaky. heh.
    ok…..
so anyway….just wanted to say hi and pass along a totally unrelated ebay link that i thought was just hoot.

  6. I’m catching up on days of blog reading now… but, I lost my complete train of thought with this entry… what on earth is an ambient orb????

  7. Will,
Here is a little off topic tip to see if your paying attention.
    Go get city of heroes!!!
The game rocks. No comic book fan should be without a hero of their very own. You may want to kiss the wife and kids good bye for a while though. The game is addicting. I play on guardian, but I am sure that any server you play on will have good peeps to group with.
    See you in the streets,
    The Hidden Flame

  8. WoW! You used the word grok! I love that word! It brought a tear to my eye. I am not the only one who actually uses the word “grok”!
