This is hilarious. From BBSpot: Paramount Releases Highly Anticipated Service Pack for Star Trek.

Hollywood, CA – Paramount announced that it had released the long awaited service pack for the original Star Trek series. Entitled Star Trek: SP1, the patch includes fixes for technical goofs and other errors, which have nagged fans for decades.
Upgrading ShatnerParamount used the latest in digital editing technology to correct the errors and scoured newsgroups and interviewed fans to find all the problems they needed to correct. The service pack is available in DVD, VHS or in digital format from the Paramount website.
Paramount President Franz Pike said, “We fixed everything, from obvious errors like the glaring differences between Shatner and his stunt double to more obscure fixes like removing Spock’s ‘third ear’ in ‘The Immunity Syndrome.’ We think fans will be pleased.”

The full story is at BBSpot. Be sure to finsish any drinks before reading, to prevent monitor or keyboard damage.

Of course, it will also include fixes to the dialogue so that there will be references to the first Enterprise (I enjoyed the last two episodes, btw … maybe the series is hitting its stride finally).

Shatner had a stunt double? Did his toupee have one too? I’m so disappointed – now I’m wondering if he really jumped out of a plane for that paintball tournament or if he had someone else do that for him too…
/so want to see the episode where Spock had a third ear. How does THAT happen?

OK, maybe I should have read the article first… I’m incredibly gullible that way. =)

Dood! You totally have to write a hack for the TNG patch so you get more than just some kisses from Ashley Judd… if you know what I mean. ::wink wink nudge nudge::

That kind of mentality lead to Greedo shooting first.

Do you think they can do a service pack to Star Trek: TNG? Perhaps the service pack can remove Berman.. BERMAN YOU BASTARD!!!

As usual I had a problem with this. I forgot to de-install StarTrek Update and it crashed my Television set.

All I know is that the TNG service pack better remove those guys in skirts from the pilot. That still gives me nightmares.

Gee, you keep mentioning this site Wil, and I never go, but the article was so funny that I click around a little bit and found this other article…
    http://bbspot.com/News/2003/02/episode3.html
which has the following (I think) title, “Man fears Episode III may ruin his childhood.”
I laughed so hard my co-workers thought I was insane (and they may not be that wrong). bbspot is now part of my favorites…right next to WWDN

Oh wow! That was hilarious. I almost did it, I almost spit coffee all over the monitor and keyboard. I should have listened to the warning. Seems like today is turning out to be some kind of a good day. I never really thought I would ever have one of those. =P
People who come up with that kind of stuff should be writng for stand up. Hope everyone laughed as hard I did, it felt kind of good. =D.

Actually, Kirk is the one with three ears. He has a left one, a right one, and a final front ear. Worst… Pun… Ever! Oh and Wil, what’s with the word “finsish” there? I think you may have finished a few drinks your self… πŸ˜‰

No mention of the biggest glaring mistake ever? The whole klingon thing. I mean c’mon. Although it made for the best episode of DS9 when everyone gets inserted into the churbles episode.

Uh, what’s so hilarious? There’s nothing funny about Star Trek ’cause it’s already a joke!

“Why did Star Trek never become a religion…?”
It IS a religion. I attend daily services on Spike TV.
Suggestions for correcting errors on The Next Generation: Episode 43: Samaritan Snare–
Wesley (Wil, dude) says “Shuttle No. 2 is ready for take off” but the camera shows a “01” on the outside of the shuttle.
BTW, Spike TV episodes of ST:TNG is nearing the end of season 7 . Season 1 starring none other than the fabulous WIL WHEATON will begin in a couple of weeks–mark your calendars.

It’s good to hear Spike will soon be showing Wesley episodes again (though I have to say, shamefully, that I do enjoy some of the later ones, too). I think if I could fix any of the TNG shows, it would be the one (of course I can’t remember the name of the episode) where people start hallucinating that they are at Utopia Planetia and want to jump to their deaths, and that one guy does…then, Troi interviews his fiance, and all she can say is “It’s just not like (so and so) to take his own life”. Ha. That is a howler of a bad line – How could it be like anyone to take their own life? They could only do it once, right? Anyway, that was my two cents worth (well, five cents U.S.).

  25. Ana says:

I hate this idea. Part of the fun is taking the old screwed-up lore and working with it. Like, about those Klingon ridges and Cochran looking so different. And i love the stunt doubles! And were’t the wardrobe malfunctions just the best? Corny, tacky, classic Trek. YAY!

“However, the release has left some fans unimpressed. “This service pack fixes several errors, but also creates some. Like in ‘The Enemy Within’ they fix the problem with Kirk’s phaser switching between a Type 1 and a Type 2 phaser, but they give Kirk a mustache,” said Devin Halibut of Star Trek fan club #264. “I have to say I like the goofs in the original series better than the ones introduced by the service packs.”

Not even big movie studio’s are perfect. Some people always revise. This is a good thing and some of the fans will be pleased.

    Wil,
I just won an auction on ebay of a signed photo of you (Wesley). I paid $15.50 for the winning bid and it was worth every penny. The autograph was guaranteed by Slanted Fedora Convention.
One question–I think the photo may have been printed in reverse. It shows three small moles on your left cheek; I believe these moles are actually on your right cheek–?si’?
Anyway, I’m thrilled to have won the picture.
    Later, Dude.
