50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

Posted on 19 April, 2004 By Wil

My Los Angeles Dodgers currently have the best record in baseball.
And I’m not talking about some worthless half-game lead over the jints . . . oh no. They’re 9 and 3, baby.

Yeah, but a dozen games in April doesn’t get you the pennant. That’s what’s keeping me from hating my Phillies. That and the new ballpark.

Sure, Wil. And the Baltimore Orioles are leading the AL East. Something tells me things’ll change ; ) (Still, who am I to rain on your parade?)

  5. Doug says:
    19 April, 2004 at 11:42 pm

    I second that. Go Cubs.

(yeah, it’s only April–but hey, you and I will just ride this wave for as long as we can. :D)

  7. Dal says:

Wow, all they have to do is coast through these next 149 games and they’ll be in good shape!

Yeah? Well my Mets are… hrm. 6-7, last place in the NL East.
    At least it’s familiar territory.

Hey, as long as the Phillies stomp the Orioles in the upcoming July inter-league series at the new Phillies stadium, I will allow the Dodgers to do whatever the hell they want.
Funny how year after year we stomp the Orioles, but it just never changes the outcome of the ’83 World Series. But it still feels good, like bacon tastes good!
    GO PHILLIES!

I don’t mean to put anyone down but lately I haven’t seen alot of entries lately from wil. I know he’s busy and all. I just miss his long thoughtful entries and this thing about baseball came up short.Sorry that’s just how I feel and I still love this web site and read his blog a day before work.

  15. Jason says:

I hear ya. My Phillies had a horrible start at 1-6 but now are on a winning streak and are almost back at .500.
My AL team, the Orioles, are the best in the East. Take that you evil Yankee fans.

  16. Urban says:

Baseball? That’s some kind of sport isn’t it? Popular in places like… Japan? Thought so. 🙂

  24. David says:
    20 April, 2004 at 6:44 am

Just remember blue crew – 67% of your losses have come because of the Padres, while only 44% of your wins have come against them.
    Those are telling statistics. Yep.
    /I got nothin’
Nah, gotta give props to the Dodgers. Let’s talk in August, when they start to perform as usual.

  25. Mike D USMC says:

What’s your point, Wil? (from an already-disappointed Cards fan)
And the Astros will not be at .500 by the end of the season; they may very well win the NL Central! With a winning percentage of .550 or something, probably.

  29. -di. says:
    20 April, 2004 at 7:49 am

Well the Red Sox are .5 games out of first place in the AL-East and just finished a series with the Yankees 3-1. Oh yeah and A-Rod just went 1 for 17 in that series. You don’t want to know how much money that is for that 1 hit.
My baseball life is currrently all good. Oh yeah!

  30. Mike Bailey says:

Hey, I’m under no false impressions about the season . . . but I’m also a longtime Cubs fan, so I have to enjoy these things when I can.

  32. Wolf says:

  34. sassy says:
    20 April, 2004 at 8:47 am

Go Sox! If we can beat the Yankees this early in the season we can break the curse!

  35. Carrie says:
    20 April, 2004 at 8:48 am

Eighthing (or whatever) the GO CUBS! As for the Dodgers…yay? They’re not in the Central, so I don’t much care. 🙂

  36. Mattman says:
    20 April, 2004 at 8:49 am

I love that the Dodgers swept the Giants in SF. I am turning Dodger Blue holding my breath that they might have a good season this year. Go Dodgers!!

  39. StarkRG says:
    20 April, 2004 at 9:32 am

after only 12 games you’re bragging? sheesh, past three years or so the A’s sucked for half the season only to come back at the end and make it to the playoffs, at which point they decide to suck again and lose…

  40. gambit says:
    20 April, 2004 at 9:42 am

The Dodgers suck and will come no where near winning it all

  41. Barry Bonds says:
    20 April, 2004 at 10:20 am

You may be 9-3 now, but we will be the ones winning the NL West. By then I will have 95 homers for the season.

  42. pilch says:

just heard the Wilblog on “That Guy”….veddy jolly and with the passion thing….

  43. Em says:
    20 April, 2004 at 10:38 am

    Go Expos 🙂
I’m sure they’ll win something eventually if our stadium doesn’t collapse all over them.
(Headline: Montreal first team to win by default as visitors taken out by falling chinks of concrete)
Also: Go Habs! Go Avs! And Go Impact!

  44. Michael Rawdon says:
    20 April, 2004 at 10:51 am

Well, sooner or later the Dodgers will run into a team with more than one hitter and more than two decent starters, and then they’ll come back to earth.
It’s going to be a few more years before they can put together a decent offense again. Especially in the middle infield.
On the bright side, no one in the NL looks like a true powerhouse this year. Though Florida seems like the best bet to stay on a roll.

  45. Alara says:
    20 April, 2004 at 11:30 am

who cares if it’s only 2 weeks into the season? when your team’s doing well you can’t help but want to jump around, throw the goat and scream happy happy things.
and when your team’s not doing well and you still insist on doing those things, that makes you a Cub fan.
    Cubbie blue, through and through.

  46. J Man says:
    20 April, 2004 at 12:50 pm

Yes Wil, but your Kings took a good playoff run and dropped it into the toilet, goin 0-11 in the end to a sub .500 record. Hopefully the Dodgers won’t fall so hard.
Go Kings (Whenever hockey is played again)

  47. Shaun says:
    20 April, 2004 at 1:20 pm

Props to your Dodgers, Wil. I take it Todd Hundley’s still nursing injuries all the way to the bank? No way LA could be playing so well if that dead weight were in the lineup. Dumping him was the best move the Cubs ever made, even better than picking up Aramis Ramirez at the hot corner. He’s en fuego bay-bee!!!
Sorry for mixing my sports metaphors.
I’m just concerned that the Cubs will once again well… Be The Cubs. One day everyone’s hitting the daylights out of the ball, the next day no one can get the ball out of the infield. One day the starting pitching’s strong and the bullpen stingy, the next day it’s like a dam bursting open. Greg Maddux sure hasn’t made up for losing Mark Prior early on. I’m don’t believe in jinxes, but someone forgot to tell these guys they’re supposed to win the pennant this year.
I think you need to lead the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley this summer, Wil. You’re on a roll lately. Spread the love and good vibes, man…

  48. Dan Taylor says:
    20 April, 2004 at 1:37 pm

As a die-hard Anaheim Angels fan whose team is playing in the tougher of the two western divisions (designated hitter or not) I will admit that the Dodgers are doing surprisingly well. Is it the fact that your bats have finally shown up, or the the fact that they play William Hung in the clubhouse?
But at least we swept you at the beginning of the month in the Freeway Series, and we will do the same later this season.
Good luck for the rest of the season. I do have La Duca and Gange on my fantasy team.
    Peace…
Dan (who wears a Sciocia jersey when attending Angels home games)

  49. baseballgeek says:
    20 April, 2004 at 1:52 pm

I made a cheap dinner bet at my fantasy draft on March 28th that the Dodgers would win at least 75 games this season… the guy was willing to offer me 65 games… I took the 75.
Of course, I thought this was a stupid, “homer” bet, in reality… but, it is nice to see the Dodgers looking so good this early.
