50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

he reaches into his bag of tricks

  • Uncategorized

I had a weird night last night. I kept waking up very suddenly, with my brain racing. It was different from the night terrors I used to have when I was younger, but the same “OH MY GOD!” heart-pounding feeling was still there, just absent the white hot blinding fear that the terrors used to bring.
So that’s a long way if saying that I’ve been really tired all day. I think I’m also a little emotionally drained, as well, with the uncertainty about Felix (even though all the signs currently point in a positive direction).
Speaking of Felix . . . I saw him this morning, and the vet, and all the techs at the hospital all told me how talkative he had been, and how eager he was to come home. He continued to “eat like a pig” they said (he ate almost an entire 5.5 ounce can of food this morning) and he was even eating fish, which he’s always hated. There was another cat in the space next to The Bear, and I guess the two of them had been talking to each other since yesterday. I think I may have seen a copy of Escape from AlCATraz — with feline subtitles, of course — behind Felix’s litter box.
The vet told me that it was really clear that our visits were helping him, and she said the he really settled down when we took his little fleece bed there for him to sleep in so he didn’t have to sleep on a towel.
She said that he’s made so much progress with the fluids and medication, that he could come home today!
So at 4:30, I picked him up, and right now he’s laying on the floor behind me, giving himself a bath.
He wants me to tell everyone, “Hi. ThiS iS FELix. My Mom AND Dad ToLD mE HoW MUCh WWDN ReADerS SupPoRteD ThEM whiLe I wAs SiCK, aND i WaNT to sAY ThANK you. ThEy LovE ME A loT AnD I KnOW THIS Was hard FoR thEM.”
I want to say thank you again, too, and so do Anne and the boys.
Felix will get sub-q fluids every day, and we’re also giving him aluminum hydroxide twice a day in his food to help take some stress off his kidneys. I’m doing everything I can to keep him comfy, too, and I ordered him some Kitty Hooch, because he loves it so much.
The next 48 hours are going to be very important. If he doesn’t slip back to pre-hospital condition, we’re going to be okay for a while. If he worsens, we’ll have to give serious consideration to putting him to sleep. We’re clearly not out of the woods, yet, so if you’ve got an extra thought to spare, we’ll take it.
Oh, and to tie up a loose end from yesterday, my audition went really well. I read for three different characters, nailed one of them, blew it on another, and did fairly well with the last one. But I REALLY had fun with the characters, and also recorded an audio blog that made me laugh.
Update: I just got off the phone with our vet. The lab results came back, and they’re not as good as we’d hoped. his levels came down a little bit, but not nearly as much as we were hoping for. She said that she uses the lab results as a guide, and really lets the cat tell us what he needs, but when I asked her if it was positive, negative, or neutral, she didn’t really want to say . . . so I think it may be more negative than we’d like.
He’s going to get re-checked in two weeks, and we’ll have a very clear picture then. I’m trying to remain hopeful, but I also have to prepare myself for the very worst.

Oh that sucks. I couldn’t imagine if we had to put Joey (our cat) to sleep. He is our baby. We’re about to add another baby to our family, but still, you can’t replace a pet. I’ll pray for Felix and keep ya’ll in my thoughts.

You get the feeling that in any intellectual contest between Felix and Josef the cat would have to spot the dweeb 2,000 points to make it even?
OTOH, it is porn spam, but God, is it funny porn spam.

stirring up some MOJO for Felix here… pile it on with the huge amount already cooked up.
Now… I’m rather quite proficient technically… but I’ve never delved into the inner workings of the net, IP addresses, etc. But after reading that immature twit’s posting… I wanna know how to use “141.209.210.219” and help him receive the appropriate karma that he so completely deserves.
Someone, please post a little how-to or link to one for me.
    Thanks much

To look up an IP address and see where it leads you, you can visit http://www.arin.net. That’ll handle North American IPs, anyway. An even better option is to check Geobytes (http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm).
141.209.210.219 is actually from Central Michigan University, if you look it up. (Mt Pleasant, MI, according to Geobytes.) Who knows if the douchebag is actually there or not. If the IPs are logged, Wil might be able to get the police involved, especially if there are a bunch from the same area. After all, it is harassment. Since the last flood involved links to kiddie porn, there’s stronger incentive; at the very least, if there are any lawyers kicking around, you may be able to use the logs as sufficient evidence to open a lawsuit and force the ISP to disclose the identity of the person to whom that IP has been assigned. Of course, that’s assuming that the person who has that IP is the one posting crap; it could be a computer compromised by a cracker.

  8. Chris Salter says:
    6 May, 2004 at 12:37 pm

Oh, wil, if you have a list of IPs where this crap’s been coming from, feel free to email me a copy. I can do at least basic investigation for you. I don’t really know how to hunt these punks down, but I can at least do some basic research for you, maybe give you something to go on.

    Wil,
I was talking to my mother on the phone and mentioned you and your family and your cat. She said to tell you that she and her kitties Puffy, Oscar, Freckles, Momma, Wire Wizzer, and Patches all send lots and lots of Mojo and Crazy Monkey Voodoo to all of you. She hopes that the improvement stays and that you and your precious Felix have lots of time together. I was thinking and Im sending more Mojo from myself. But there are so many people here and in my family that are pouring out the good vibes to you and your family and Felix. I really hope it helps. And I havent stopped sending Mojo to Kris. I have a few friends who are sending Mojo her way as well. We all wish you ALL the best of luck these days. It seems that of all the people who deserve the good Mojo it would be you guys. *BIG HUGS* To the Wheatons, Felix, and Kris.

Wil, I’m sorry about Felix. I hope things do get better. Take pictures of him and love on him all you can. We lost our 18 year old cat to kidney failure a few months ago. We had warnings, just like you have had, and we really treasured the last few months with her.

    What Felix Really Said
Whatcha doin’? Are those mousies? Are you attacking mousies? Can I attack the mousies? Scratch my head. You been eating dead cow again? What’s that? I swat it but it keeps moving. Scratch my head. You stopped petting me. Okay, I’ll taste you where you petted me. Whatcha doin?

  26. Maggie says:
    6 May, 2004 at 9:51 pm

Glad Felix seems to be better – I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he continues to improve. I know how you feel about the emotional draining – I’m in the same boat right now with my cat only with lymphoma.
Not fun for kitty or owner, that’s for sure! Anyway, we’ll be thinking good thoughts for Felix!
    Maggie

  27. Suzanne says:

I’m so glad Felix is feeling better and could come home. Even when pets are sick, it’s always nicer to have them at home where you can hug them if you get too anxious. Here’s hoping the improving health continues.
I’m still sending healing mojo to Kris and to Felix, and I’ll throw what I’ve got left towards you and the family as well, to help you through the horrible experience of a very very sick kitty, the spammers, and the weird night awakenings. Godspeed, Wil.

    Hey Wil
Just wanted to say that I know something about what you are going through with your cat. My wonderful, best friend-like dog had to be put to sleep last february because she got cancer. She kept getting tumors, and even with 2 operations and chemo therapy, nothing would stop them. Witnessing the suffering of a wonderful companion like this is tough…I just wanted to say that I have been there too, and hopefully you can take some comfort in it. I sincerely hope that your cat gets better and lives for a long time. In the meantime, give it some extra attention and love, and value every moment with it.
    -Jim

Wil, I know that this is number 130 something and you probably won’t see it, but… When I was 16 I got the most wonderful cat I am ever to have. When he was about 2-years-old he got VERY sick, something with his bladder and kidneys. I went to see him on day 2 and the vet told me that I should seriously prepare myself for him to die. I spent some time with him at the vet and cleaned out his cage, added a few personal touches and told him I loved him and to get better. The next day the vet called to tell me that my cat was ready to come home, he was completely better! So never understestimate the power of your love for Felix. My handsome old man finally had to be put to sleep this past February, he was 15 years old. The vet had told me he probably would never live that long after his illness. While I miss him horribly, I am grateful for all 15 years that I got with him. My point is, keep holding onto hope, I think the power of your love can do wonders, especially as it sounds like Felix is just as much in love with you. Will look forward to updates and will pray for a happy outcome.

We had luck with a number of homemade CRF recipes for our guy Cyrano a few years ago. Some good information here:http://www.felinecrf.com/managd.htm
    http://www.holisticat.com/crf.html
    http://www.ameritech.net/users/critterz/crf_recipes.htm
Give felix all the love he needs (and maybe install an extra litter box or two so he doesn’t have to go as far!)

I’m not much of a cat person but I somehow have 3 cats in my livingroom. I never disliked cats, I’ve just been more of a dog lover. These cats that live in my house are now part of my little family. The three are named Nina (the mom), Bignose (a little on the stupid side), and Fluffy (cliche I know but he’s like a wolf). Fluffy would be my favorite out of the three. He’s always hungry, he’s never awake for more than an hour at a time, and he lives the life that we all aspire to live. Carefree and always happy is what Fluffy is and I love him to death. I hope Felix stays better Wil. Love and attention is the best for him right now.

Oh, I’m SO SORRY to hear about your cat. I’m almost in tears about it, actually. I lost my 16 year old cat to kidney failure in January. Just don’t wait too long to make the call if he is really sick. That is my best advice to you. I waited a little too long to put my poor kitty out of his misery and it’ll haunt me always. My Dickens was much sicker than I realized and I’m sure he was very uncomfortable. Once they exhibit symptoms like your cat is showing, I’m sorry to say it, but it’s pretty much a done deal. I’m really sorry for you and your kitty. 🙁
    Good luck and take care.
