50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

I need to interrupt our regularly scheduled poker story for a moment, because at 2:30 this afternoon, I have an actual on-camera audition, for a very popular TV show.
I’m quite excited, because the material totally doesn’t suck, I can put this character on pretty easily, and when I was pitched to the casting director, she reportedly said, “Oh wow! What a great idea! Send him in!”
So if you could spare a little bit-o-mojo around 2:30 Pacific today, I’d be most grateful.
In fact, to show my gratitude, I offer a link to the official Mount St. Helens Live Volcano Cam, which we should all be watching because there have been lots of earthquake swarms in the last 24 hours, and it looks like she’s waking up.
Updated @ 5:06PM — Just got back, and I am happy to report that I had a really good time! It was the first on-camera audition I’ve had in AGES, but all the nerves and crap that used to get in my way never materialized. I had prepared my sides well, and knew my character all the way down in my bones, so even though I had to wait for almost an hour, I passed the time happily, playing Downtown Hold’Em on my cellphone. (I made it to the fourth tournament before I went all-in with a Jack-high flush and lost to a King-high flush.)
I was very happy with my performance in both scenes . . . and I marked something interesting as I left: the character I read for was a little nervous and scattered, trying very hard not to get caught after he did a Very Bad Thing™, and I had to very carefully and consciously shift gears once the camera rolled. When I left, I thought to myself, “Aw, man, I was nervous and scattered,” until I realized that that was precisely the way I was supposed to be. So they’ll either think that I nailed this character, or they’ll think I was too scattered and nervous . . . but either way, I’m glad I went in.
Thank you so much to everyone who sent mojo and stuff. It made me smile more than once while I was there, just knowing that at least thirty people (the comment count when I left) were thinking of me.

Oh, and if you do get the part (mojo mojo *rubs magic good luck sock monkey’s tummy* mojo), I’ll watch the show. Just cause you’re in it. Even if I otherwise hate the show. 🙂

some philosophical theories would allow me to delcare that your 2:30 audition won’t have happened until i read about the results, so i can send my mojo now, an hour and a half later, and still safely assume that it will have had an affect on the outcome. gambatte.

  11. hanashibeta says:
    28 September, 2004 at 4:11 pm

my sending of mojo is really unlikely to have an affect on the outcome, since that doesn’t mean anything, so i’ll go ahead and resend just in case the earlier mojo got thrown off course by my typo. this batch should effect a positive outcome.

Sorry I got to the site too late to send you any mojo. I’m working the night shift and slept until 2:30 EST. I guess I should’ve gotten online as soon as I got up. Shame on me.
Oh well…I’ll do that Jedi Mind Trick thing and send a mental message to the folks making the Big Decision… “Wil was great. His nervous and scattered act played so well for the character… pick Wil… Pick Wil…. He’s got that >EDGE

“How can I withhold mojo from a guy who makes a Pink Floyd reference in the post title?”-posted by Chris the Tiki Guy…
Are you sure it’s not The Pixies?… Which is it Wil?
And if it’s not the OC, is it Las Vegas?… Either one would be cool…

  30. griff says:
    28 September, 2004 at 8:43 pm

Way too late for the “good luck” mojo, so like many others, I am sending “YOU WANT WIL” mojo to the powers that be. I’ll keep my fingers crossed as well.

  31. jcklsgk says:
    28 September, 2004 at 8:45 pm

    Belated good luck Will!
And I definitely think that that was a Pink Floyd reference in the title. Astronomy Domine, if I’m not mistaken. Ahhh Syd Barret … now that’s good music.

  32. Holz says:
    28 September, 2004 at 8:56 pm

Glad to hear it went so well, Wil! How long until we find out what show it was for?
/hoping it was for C.S.I. (and no, not that crap Miami or NY, the original)

  33. Tim says:

  35. BigMatt says:

I find it no small coincidence that, while blindly blog surfing, I cam across your post. What made it particularly of interest (at least to me) was that I was listening to my friend Dan’s (LK) song Dragon on my iPod at the time. Dan has frequently referenced you and I fisrt learned of your blog through him. Odd. Hope to be seeing you on said popular TV show soon.

  36. Stephanie says:

let me guess…. Law & Order, SVU or….
    CSI, LAS VEGAS….
    HOPE YOU GET IT WIL!
I’ve run out of your movies to rent…!

  42. Andrew says:

You know what would be the perfect fit? Wil being Marshall’s brother on Alias. Matches with the description, is a very popular TV show, and it fits in with the “Very Bad Thing

  43. Curtis says:
    29 September, 2004 at 12:11 am

Is it CSI? It’s CSI, isn’t it? Oh, please tell us it’s CSI – that would be so huge. Larger than John Candy at an all-you-can-eat-buffet!
Bon chance at any rate, here’s hoping you get it.

  44. Jenn says:
    29 September, 2004 at 12:15 am

Hi. My name is Jenn. ^-^ i’m pretty much average. but that’s just for now. i have to say, i’d posted a comment only once before, but i still read this blog. ^-^ to tell the truth (i guess this might sound dumb, cause i’m sure you’ll pass over this) i wanted to tell you that i want to be a Voice Actress. ^-^ i’ve always liked anime, and i have always enjoyed the japanese acting better. but that only refers to anime, because i watch shows like, oh say, Teen Titans. i was thrilled to hear about your roles as Aqualad, and i can’t wait to hear more of your work. you have a wonderful voice, wil, and i would be psyched to work with you some day. right now, i’m working on my college degree, but i really want to find a cool job doing voices. any thoughts you could give would be fantastic. i suppose that’s it for now. end transmission.

    Late mojo.
Well, I only just read it. But good luck anyway.
Of course, quoting Pink Floyd lyrics in your subject line helps.
So when do you find out?

  46. Sally says:
    29 September, 2004 at 12:39 am

See, it’s all the cleansing you did in writing Just A Geek…your fears have been defeated!

  47. Melissa says:
    29 September, 2004 at 4:51 am

Another east coaster who only checks in the mornings and missed the audition announcement. Still, I’ll send some psychic vibrations the way of the casting directors. YOU WANT WIL!!!!
    There, that’ll do it.
Oh, and I second the poster above who hopes it’s Alias. You’d totally kick ass (perhaps literally?) on that show. Tell Jennifer we said hi.

  48. Markus says:
    29 September, 2004 at 6:02 am

    A bit delayed but:
Yes, Much Mojo to you!!! G4TechTV would be my first guess, but then again…G4TechTV is craptastic right now.
If you end up on Joey…I would cry.
Sorry, an ad for it just came on….
Alias would be really freakin’ Sweet!

  49. 1cutebird says:
    29 September, 2004 at 6:09 am

Here’s hoping you’re on Law and Order or CSI but you probably auditioned for Nip Tuck or The O.C.
not a huge fan of the last two but will watch if you’re on them.
Hope you got it. We need to see more of your acting on the tv or big screen you are missed but your fans.
Hope they thought so and you get the part. My fingers and toes are crossed waiting for the good news….btw – it’s damn hard to type and walk when I’m like this so you better tell us ASAP!
Where’s that thrid part of the poker story it’s 6 am your time you really shouldn’t keep us in this much suspense Wil it’s not fair! Oh well, no one said life would be.
    Have a good one

Rock! The audition went well, glad to hear it! Now to send “Hire Wil, You Won’t Regret It” mojo to the people making the casting decisions…
*does an odd, somewhat Native mojo conjuring jig*
Looking forward to more of Viva Las Vegas later today!
