50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

dallas comic con

  • Uncategorized

I forgot to mention this until just now: On Saturday the 23rd of October, I’m going to be at the Dallas Comic-Con at the Plano Center, in fabulous Plano, TX. I’ll have copies of Just A Geek, Dancing Barefoot, and the last few preview CDs for the audio book version of JAG. For all you Munchkin players out there, I’ll have a very few “Heart of the Anomaly” cards, as well.

Man, too bad i live in Arizona and not Texas. I would /love/ to get a copy of JAG on Audio. Sure, reading it is awsome, but hearing it come from you, with the voice and emotion you intended would be even better.

I so totally could’ve had first post if I’d been fast enough! Okay, that is a redundant statement. I give up. 😕

Very cool. Very, very cool. Brent Spiner and Michael Dorn and Wil Wheaton — oh my! 🙂 And comics. Quadruple bonus!
Anyone from Austin driving and willing to take a passenger? Life sucks when you don’t have a car. (email: [email protected])
    cheers!

Dallas, eh? I’m there, man. Finally some love for those of us not fortunate enough to land in the ocean when we roll out of bed.

I was planning on attending anyway to see the artist behind the comic “The Norm.” It’s just an added bonus that you’ll be there.

I’d be tempted since Dallas is so close to Austin, but I’m still beat up silly from Linucon. *whew* Any other Texas cons in the works?
Thanks again for signing my Heart of the Anomaly card. I look forward to using it!

Sweet. Dallas is a lot closer to me than Austin :).

YES! YES! Just a couple of miles up the road from me! YEA! YEA!
Umm, er, I mean, how nice. Wil Wheaton is coming to Plano.
Plano, Texas. Sigh. The President George Bush Tollway runs right through the city. Just thought you should get a warning.
Looking forward to meeting you in person, Mr. Wheaton —

    Ah politics.. here? bleh!
After refusing to vote for either candidate this year due to the fact that they both are just silly. I have decided i’ll vote Kerry. We’re still screwed anyways, but at least it will be different than just hearing about a stupid war all of the time, and that damn over the top texan accent all of the time.
Bitter? why yes! yes I am. I hate how the government is currently setup. It needs massive restructuring. We have the ability, but the oldies in office don’t want to release the old ways. Do you realize that we could get rid of the house of representatives if we, with our currently available technology, utilized the proper tools to allow us to actually represent ourselves and not hire some overpaid self gratifying, special interest, pandering jack-ass to do the work for us? Voting would be as easy as clicking a mouse button or someother form of actuation device for the less abled. Imagine the tax dollars that would be saved!
Really, I think we need to restructure the presidency too. It would be nice to see three presidents in office, each with three vice presidents, who must vote unanimously in order for them to pass an issue. This would work great when the house of reps are abolished becasue we would be in direct contact with out votes to the presidents, and we would no longer be limited to the opinion of one crackhead in office. (Short of a very few presidents, that is all we have ever had thus far. Damn runny nosed twitchety political crackheads who need to figure out ways to get their next power fix to feed their greedy addictions.)

I’m going to do my very, very best to stop by, unfortunately that is the very day that my company is moving to our new offices, and I don’t suspect that I’ll be able to leave work until late at night. Worst possible day in my schedule to be coming… aerrrrrgh! But… if I have time, I’ll run in and try to say Hi. We’re moving to Plano, so you’ll only be a mile or two away. 🙂

  21. purvisxiii says:
    15 October, 2004 at 6:53 am

well I’ll be in town on that very day.
BUT I have floor seats to see B-Boys makin’ wit da freak freak!
Sorry to be so close by and to miss you (I’d even drag myself into a comic con to do it and that’s saying something — LOVE comics, HATE B.O.!)

Hey Wil, Plano’s still my hometown even though I’m working down in Austin now, so I’ll be around. Too bad it sounds like you aren’t going to have more time for some poker this time around. 😉

  25. Kevin M. says:

Holy crap, I live in Plano! I think I’ll make the effort to get out there despite my disliking of cons (and neo-cons and cryo-cons).

  26. Melanie Fletcher says:

Wow – the last time I was at the Plano Center was for my “find a new job” class after I got laid off. This will be an excellent opportunity to overlay that fetid time with some better memories.

Poker night. Wil, if you do think you will have time for some poker, we have a poker league going on in DFW. http://www.amateurpokerleague.com/ shows the places it is playing. It is just for points, but it is a good game with nice bunch of people. I play on Saturdays as a nice place in Plano.

    To The Other Wil
The End Zone is exactly where I was talking about. I have played there twice now. I like it. It is pretty relaxed for a urban biker bar.

    Ooo!
I will drive up to Plano from Austin to get my copy of JaG signed *properly*! I was first in line at Alamo, when they sold out of the books (including prepaid copies) before I could collect mine! I am not putting that signed ‘non-archival mailing label’ in a book! I can only afford the gen admission, since I will be pouring any other money into the gas tank!
OT: have you seen this? (Soul Coughing’s Sebastian was one of the musicians involved):

    See you in Plano!

Hey Wil, you’re not going to be charging money to sign your book/other stuff like the rest of the media guests are, are you? I understand everyone needs to make money these days but I nearly had a fit when I read that it’ll cost $35 for Brent Spiner’s sig and $25 for Michael Dorn. Goodness! I’m no autograph hawker, just a fangirl getting mementos of my past signed, why so much for autographs?
Anyway, you were super nice at Linucon/Alamo Drafthouse so it’ll be a pleasure to see you again in Plano.
I’ll be rocking the WWdN baseball jersey. Must identify and group with other WWdN monkeys…
    cheers!

  39. wil says:
    19 October, 2004 at 12:46 pm

angie: Yes, I will be charging a fee to sign things. Unlike Linucon, which I attended for the geekiness and the gaming, I’m coming out to Dallas to earn some money to support my family. I don’t charge nearly as much as the other actors do, but I have to make it worth my while to make the trip.
Sorry if that’s distasteful to anyone, but it’s a reality, and I figure I should be honest about it.

    Hey Wil!
Can you make your Texas tour next time down to the 3rd Coast (Houston/Galveston…mainly Houston)!! 🙂 We don’t get cons down here. Well we do if you want talk about how Creation cons us into thinking we’re getting a SUPER BIG convention and then pulls out b/c of lack of fandom and decides to pull out a “half price sale”!
I look forward to meeting you! Too bad I don’t live in the Metroplex..actually I don’t want to live in the Metroplex! But too bad you can’t come any closer. We in Houston don’t bite…yet…We want a little Star Trek lovin’ too 🙁
But hope to see ya in Plano! I am not sure what I will be wearing but check out the “What do you look like (in the tehsoapbox.net (is that right?) under “Nicoledeboerfan” or look up my name. My pic is there 😉
    Take care!

  42. angie k says:

‘Tis cool and very understandable. How much do you charge? (If we buy more books will you sign those for free? [wink])
Well, it’s about time we had to pay for our 30 secs. 🙂
    cheers!

  43. Ryan says:
    22 October, 2004 at 9:28 pm

Oooh, Wil Wheaton only 10 minutes from my house? That’s enough reason to go. That and the two hot women from Buffy…. 😛

  44. Christina says:
    23 October, 2004 at 4:07 pm

Just got back from the Con. Thanks for coming Wil! You are wonderful! I absolutly have to have your books now! Please feel free to come visit the Great State of Texas again some time.
    Plano/Dallas in particular.

  45. Bubby says:
    23 October, 2004 at 7:46 pm

Aw, man! That’s what I get for not keeping up on my reading. I was in Dallas ALL day and probably could have made it up there.

  46. Dean says:

Just got done making the five hour trip home from the convention. Wil! Was! Awesome! He filled up the room and by far was the best presenter there. He read a story from each book and his reading was awesome (as always)…I got a huge lump in my throat and had to fight back tears when he read about coming to terms with Trek and learning to love it again. Keep on coming to Texas Wil! We love you here!
