50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

programming notes

  • Uncategorized

I’m playing in the Poker Bloggers Tournament tonight at Poker Stars. It’s 20 +2 NLHE, and anyone who is interested in playing or watching should go read Iggy for details.
I came in second in a tourney in Austin, and I’ve been playing fairly well in ring games recently (even though my pocket aces got cracked night before last and cost me 40 bucks in a 2-4 game . . . goddamn paired board), but I’m pretty sure I’m dead money in this tournament. Iggy is going pro, and the other bloggers I’m facing have a lot more tournament experience than I do, but if I get to drop The Hammer at least once, I’ll be happy.
Tomorrow I fly out to Dallas for the Dallas Comic Con on Saturday, and then I fly back home on Saturday night so I can do my Borders book signing on Sunday. I hope some locals can make it to both events.
Final thought for this morning: If the World Series is half as good as the League Championship Series, it’s going to be a great final week of baseball.

Wil, how are you able to play this? Does it run under WINE? (It’s windows only, and I thought you were windowless)

If Wil is who I think (I won’t say in case he wants that private), he didn’t do so good. His money was pretty dead tonight!.
I’m a guy named TuckerKatt who is playing aggressive against a bunch of tight scaredy sheep is doing quite well, eating up a lot of chips.

I’m not a guy, I’m *watching* a guy named TuckerKatt. This poker watching is making me stay up too late.

Great playing with you tonight Wil. See ya at the tables soon.

I don’t think I played bad at all. I’ll check my hand history, and compare notes with the other players at my tables.
I finished in the 80s, when I went all-in with JJ against pocket 10s, and the pocket 10s ended up making a straight on the river.
Last I heard Metsfan was first with 45 players left.
And I play in WINE on Linux.

Excellent tourney tonight! 80 is a decent finish! I went out 45. At least you saved yourself an hour! lol.

No, wil, you were definitely NOT dead money. After a slow start, you built yourself a very nice stack. You were at or above average stack most of the night, and got your money in the pot with a better hand. You can’t ask for much more than that. Unfortunately, a two-outer on the river took you down. That’s rough.
I, on the other hand, was dead money. I obviously haven’t been playing enough recently because I was way too agressive at the start and no one respected my raises!
However, I walked away happy when I doubled with the HAMMER after going all in preflop and cracking pocket 8’s. Caught a 2 on the flop and a 7 on the river. That was sweet…

    Wil,
Looks like the Cards made it. Now we get to see the Cards vs Sox in the World Series. Being from St. Louis area, I hope the cards can pull it off by game 5.

I finished around 60th, went all in preflop w/ kings, got called by a pair of aces. 🙁

I’ll be at the Dallas ComicCom on Saturday. Got my Speedpass so I’ll see you there Wil.

Nice seeing you at the tables Wil. I finished 24th – a few spots out of the money, forced to make a choice between being blinded out of the game or moving all-in with QJo. Not my favorite place to be! Hope to see you at the next tourney.

I’m glad you had fun during the blogger tourney. I had a blast even though I got KO’d way too early. It gave me chance to watch other bloggers play. By the way, I liked your pokerstars picture . . . it was almost better than my brother’s . . . whatch you talking about Willis! Anyone good luck with everything. Hey, I read one of your books not too long ago and let me say this . . . . I used to like Captain Kirk, now I don’t. He’s a clown! Keep up the good work Wil. Viva Las Vegas!!!

I just mentioned over at tehsoapbox.net that I might be up for hosting a Poker Night over at my apartment on Saturday evening. If you guys are interested drop me a line or reply to the Comic-Con thread over there. I think I’ll be around at breakfast tomorrow morning, but Bree and I will definitely be around the convention during the day.
Anybody up for some Hold Em?

I ended up finishing in the money, 16th. I got my money in in two big hands as a favorite, and ended up losing both of them to get knocked out.
Not as bad as the beat you took, but it still hurt.

Dang it, Wil. Need more notice on these appearances (or, are you given not much notice, either?). The Santa Anita thing is not too far for me, but I’ll be visiting my folks, in Hesperia. My girlies really wanted to talk to Aqualad (‘s voice actor). Rats!!!
Have fun. You’ll do a great job, as always. Plus, you won’t have to fight traffic, like on your San Diego sojourn.

Hey look, a new reader! =)
I just wanted to wish you good luck in the tournament and I hope that you have a good time with it!
I wish I lived closer so that I could make it to some of your Border appreances but I shall have to live vicariously thru yours and others postings about them.

Um I’m the real Iggy. Not that Guinness loving poker player. Although in Tahoe I did have a Guinness – gave the other 5 of 6 away. You have to love when hotel managers give you free beer. Someone needs to remind me to go buy Wil’s book – since I didn’t get one in Tahoe.

We wanted to write a quick note to thank you again for talking to us today at the Comic Con. It was a blast and really made us happy to meet you and it was definitely worth the long drive. Bianca just read your entire “Just A Geek” book in one two hour sitting and she wishes she would have had the courage to talk to you more at the con. Thanks again from the twins with the 17 year crush. 🙂

So on a lark I went through Yahoo groups and found 6-7 group dedicated specifically to you, as well as many that you were mentioned on. One was even a Wesley Crusher group, LOL. Who said no one like Wesley? I was amazing how many die hard fans you have out there that don’t even post on here. DUDE YOU COULD START YOUR OWN CULT! lol j/k….kinda

I normally play at pokerroom.com, but while the server was down for maintenance, decided to give pokerstars a shot. Not bad, but think i prefer pokerroom – have you played it? give it a shot – graphics / pics / play seems a bit crisper to me

Hey wil… now that you’re back from Dallas, if you’re still interested in writing up your Bogger Invitational poker tourney experience, just drop me a line.

Glad I found your site. I had no idea that there’s a poker tourney for bloggers at stars. I usually play at Party but I will have to get some cash into my stars account so I can take your guys money 🙂
