I missed the ACME show on Saturday night, because I hurt my neck so badly on Friday, I couldn’t even stand up Saturday morning. More on that later.
As if the pain in my neck and shoulders wasn’t bad enough, I’m trying my best not to get sick, now. I think it’s just the dry air from my heater and the weather the last few days, but my throat is sore and scratchy, and my sinuses are all dry and ouchy . . . so I’m just going to put up this quick reminder and get back into bed:

Have your wife make you some chicken soup. My Grandmother always gave me chicken soup when I wasn’t well and it , beleive it or not, usually worked.
Finally an OC signing close to home! Yes!
Damn, I hope your neck is OK and that the bug trying to catch you, doesn’t.
Get well soon, and have fun with the book signing and the shows. Based on your health issues, this time I won’t wish that you break a leg or anything else.
No, no, no! Given the past holiday, it should be TURKEY soup! We were just up in Altadena, yesterday, to enjoy our friend, Mayr Ellen’s, famous turkey soups. I should have her send the leftovers to your house. 🙂
Feel better soon. Oh, and if you are still sick for your Tuesday reading, just play a recording of yourself. Then, all you’ll have to do is sit there, sign autographs, and look cute.
Notes for the Tuesday, Barnes & Noble signing in Huntington Beach:
-I called the phone# listed by Wil and got the voicemail of some PR person. To speak to a live person, try their main line at (714)897-8781.
-I clicked on the web site Wil highlighted, but could find no listing of Wil’s event in any of the menus. How annoying! Somehow, I don’t think he’s doing the pajama-rama toddler storytime!
-I called the location (at the above ph#), told them of their Wheaton event ommision, and was assured that it was indeed a scheduled event.
-Its a “wristband” event, with distribution starting at 4pm. The first 30 wristbands will go to Barnes & Noble members.
Good luck, everyone. Seeya there!
Feel better soon dude. Sending healing mojo your way…
Wil,
What ever you have, I’ve had it for the last 4 days. The 4th day is the day it starts clearing up.
It would figure that tomorrow that you would be reading to everyone who’s at the signing, which, in addition, I’ll be in attendance. Are cameras/video recorders allowed?
I’ll also be at ACME on Wednesday night. I have to call today for the reservations for my girl and myself.
I guess I’m lucky I didnt go Saturday night then, I was feeling like hell that night. How did you hurt your neck anyway?
Lets hope that all of your sinus and throat problems are just due to the 50+ MPH wind that has been happening the last couple days. But on the downside, if it is the wind… it’s supposed to stay windy for the next couple days.
Anyway, I’ll be seeing you on Tuesday and Wednesday if you’re not too sick to go. I’ve even taking off work 30 minutes earlier so I can be there on time.
Good luck Wil, and take care of that throat of yours for all of us that are going to be there tomorrow!
-Evin
Be well.
Ouch! Hope you’re back on two steady feet real soon.
I always sound like a broken record this time of year, when cold season starts, wanting to tell people about the Chinese miracle anti-cold herbs I like. So, here’s one more repeat. 🙂
The Chinese traditional herbal formulas Yin Chiao and Gan Mao Ling are the best things I’ve ever come across for fighting off a cold. My husband and I did an accidental experiment one year when we both came down with the same cold at the same time. He tried to tough his way through it without taking anything; I took the Chinese herbs. I was mildly uncomfortable (sniffles and a scratchy throat) for 3 or 4 days until it passed; he was semi-conscious on the sofa, groaning occasionally, for a long weekend, and was miserable for at least another week or so.
I like the Dr. Shen brand – made in the US, they contain no drugs, dyes, pharmaceuticals, animal products, or unlisted ingredients. Standard disclaimer: my only financial connection with the company consists of me giving them my money in exchange for herbs and acupuncture. 🙂 There are many other brands as well, so whatever label looks trustworthy to you is probably worth checking out.
You of all people should know you can’t go Warp 11. Certainly not inside a planet’s atmosphere.
In other news, drink ridiculous amounts of water and take plenty of zinc, echinacea and goldenseal. And feel better!!!
Try not to move your neck much… your body doesn’t do well trying to heal an injury and fight off an infection simultaneously anyway, and immobilizing your neck will make one of those jobs easier.
Hey,
Wil is a crossword clue in today’s Yahoo Games crossword. 32-across, “Wheaton of ‘Stand By Me'”. Three letters, hmm….

Second the Chinese Herbs (Wild Oats has them) and the Neti pot (sinus irrigation) and get thee to an accupuncturist or a Naturopath! No foil hats- it really works. Sounds like your body is rebelling against your pace-
Feel better soon!
I hope you get better soon that has gotta hurt!Good thing you had a nice thanksgiving with your family as I hope everyone did Take Care.
Careful, strep throat is making it’s way around LA. Had it a week before Thanksgiving. Not fun.
Take care.
Positive MOJO and get well wishes to ya, Wil.
Neck injuries… so painful… rolling over in bed… getting up you lead with the head/neck… OUCH! Vicodin is what I was prescribed for my neck “spasms” as he called it. Took a week to feel better.
At least you’ve got a loving wife and kids to take care of ya.
awwww I hope you will be feeling better ASAP!
Get a heating pad and take some asprin for that neck.
Dang but you are a busy boy lately. Just ah.. try not to overwork yourself ok?
I hope that neck gets to feelin better soon to.
Neck injury. Owie. Go back to bed.
If Tom Paris turned into a lizard making Warp 10, whats Warp 11 gonna do to you? hmmm
Oh yeah, feel better soon :\
Will,
Sorry to hear about your neck. I had the same exact thing happen to me a few months ago and it was the most awful thing I experienced in quite some time. I even went to the emergency room when the pain wouldn’t let up even if I was lying down.. They told me I had a stiff neck :).
I ended up spending a grand total of five days doing absolutely nothing but taking muscle relaxers and watching every DVD in my library I hadn’t gotten around to watching.
Hope you get better soon!
Nice to see you on Slashdot too! You’re making the rounds! 😀
You’re leaving HB at 8:30 to be in H’wood by 9? Call ’em and tell them you’re going to be late. Just not possible to do that run in 30 minutes. (And don’t tell me your car “can do the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs” or I’ll smack you. Har.)
I can’t get to the B&N by 4 for wristbands. Hope I’m not left outside on the sidewalk this time. This is my 4th attempt! I must emerge victorious!
\m/
I’ll be praying for your health and healing and I’ll keep you in prayer God bless you Mr. Wheaton , now don’t for get to drink lots of orange juice and take vitimans. Keep well.
If’n I was you, I’d be thankful that Diesel Sweeties mentioned my Brand New Movie!
They did so right here.
Dig it.
Just made my reservations for Wednesday night. See you there Wil. I guess I kinda have to go now 🙂
As my family doctor used to tell me when I was growing up and caught a cold (which was about every three weeks), stay warm and get plenty of rest; drink lots of fluid (doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you like drinking it–and if it’s alcoholic, as long as you’re not taking anything that it would react badly with), take aspirin/Tylenol/ibuprofen for fever (also good for pains in the neck), and call the doctor if it doesn’t go away in a week or if symptoms get worse. I also recommend the zinc lozenges, although they leave a nasty aftertaste in the mouth (another good reason to have something good around to drink). They really do seem to speed the healing process.
Boo! Throwing some {{{healing mojo}}} your way. Feel better, rest up and have a great show/signing/everything else.
How in the world did you hurt your neck?!
Wil- get well soon. i am so excited for wednesday. you are lucky: a Borders employee buying books at Barnes and Nobel, our biggest competitor. Only for you.
Ken G- I got it! i got it! 😉
i meant tuesday.
Wil,
I have three suggestions:
1. Report to sick bay immediately and Dr. Crusher (Mom) will have you on your feet in no time.
2. Then report to 10 Forward and have Guinan fix you a hot buttered rum…eh synthahol.
3. Arrange for Chief O’Brien to beam you from Huntington Beach to Hollywood.
Just make it so.
Freeman 🙂
Two simple words for your cold, dude… ZICAM
You buy it over the counter and the best one is the ZICAM Nasal Swabs. I haven’t had a cold in 2 years using this stuff and we have 2 kids! The science actually makes sense, too. This ZICAM stuff mimic’s the shape of the cells in your nose so that the cold virus’ that come in have about a 70% chance of attaching to the ZICAM instead of your body. The virus can’t reproduce in the ZICAM so it dies. (Along with all of the symptoms)
If you take it within the first 24 hours of the cold, you actually can get rid of it. If you take it later into the cold, it reduces the symptoms pretty drastically.
You can also use the stuff as kind of a “vaccine” if you know you’re going into a situation where there will be sick people.
Anyway, take care and good luck with the HB signing.
Ignatz
Mr. Wheaton,
I will be glad to escort you back to the N. Hollywood station.
Looking forward to seating you in the back of my enforcment vehicle.
Sincerly,
Dr. Radar
Okay enough with all the lame star trek crap. Hey Wil just rest up, and take it easy. And don’t over do it. So when its showtime you can be in top form, or somewhat top form. And drink a lot of fluids.
hey wil,
sorry to hear your feeling poorly. do what everyone above says and also a hot bubbly bath for one (two optional) 😉 hahaha, seriously take care. dont over stress yourself. drink some chick’ly (turkey) soup. and get plenty of rest.
mels
You know, all these announcements are nice if you live on the west coast.
How about you get yourself out here in the midwest. You know, like Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin Cities). I agree not to hackle you. Well, not too much. Oh, hell, I’d be rude and you’d have to have security carry me off. But hey! that’s just me.
Wil, you have just been Slashdotted! http://interviews.slashdot.org/interviews/04/11/29/1342247.shtml?tid=192&tid=97&tid=214&tid=129&tid=11&tid=10
Awww. Do feel better, Wil!
Hey, do you have questions to ask Wil? Wander over to Slashdot and post them http://interviews.slashdot.org/. They are interviewing our very own Mr Wheaton – one question per comment and they will post the responses after they get them back!

To Wil: Get a humidifier and some rest. You might be suffering from I’m-a-busy-guy-syndrome! Stay away from fast food (you’ve seen Supersize Me, right? You don’t want to end up like that guy.
Chicken soup always works wonders for me and lots of rest! Regarding your back and neck pain, do you have a good chiropractor? I’ve never gone myself but I’ve heard that they can do wonders. You live in California — I’m sure you have all sorts of treatment options, even alternative — I’ll just have to send some mojo your way!
There is no way you will leave at 8.30 and make any part of the Valley by 9, no matter how fast you drive. I’m a musician, and I get into this kind of trap all too often, so I know. You’ll be late, but you’ll be alive.
Why do people always dish out chicken soup when someone is poorly? What happens if the person is a vegetarian? Does vegetable soup still work?
Hope you feel better Wil-eat lots of oranges, that usually works (alternative to chicken soup remedy)
Greetings from the U.K.
I have just started visting your website, its great and I love your style of writing, I have ordered your books and am eagerly awaiting their arrival. Sorry to hear that you are unwell, and I hope you make a speedy recovery.
Hey Wil:
Here’s some good mojo flowing your way all the way from Puerto Rico! Get well soon!!!
Hey Wil,
I’m having decent results with my current bug by steeping a chunk of fresh ginger root with my decaf green tea bag and a little honey.
And you hurt your neck when you turned over in your sleep. Everyone does it at least once in their life. Your head starts turning first then your neck gets stuck with the effort of pulling the rest of you body too. And if you don’t make it all the way over, the phrase “My neck hurts, I must have slept funny” comes to mind.
Healing mojo cominatcha from Pittsburgh, PA. Hopefully you can do a signing here sometime.
Ouch! Feel better!
Good Morning Mr. Wheaton,
You should have fresh tomato soup… Vitamin C does wonders when it comes from tomatoes and there is no meat in there to get in the way :P.
Oranges are also very good, don’t drink orange juice – causes too much mucus like milk. Some hot tea with Echinacea, zinc and antioxidants will also help you to heal.
You will also need lots of luf from your family. When you’re psychologically fit, it’s easier to heal.
Also, keep your head and neck warm to help relieve any aches and pains.
Hope you feel better! I just nursed my husband back to health this weekend. Thursday in New York was cold and he was sick Friday, Sat and Sunday – monday he was back to his normal routine (work/running/etc).
Please take care; we don’t want you to miss your signing or your performance!
~Wyn ^_^
There’s an idea for your next book! ‘Remedies for Sickness and Colds’ by Wil Wheaton…
As far as the cold goes — studies have shown that if you just suffer through it, a cold lasts about a week. However, if you take various holistic, homeopathic, and/or herbal remedies, a cold usually lasts only about seven days.
Feel better soon! This is my first time visiting your website. It’s in my favorites. @}->–
Yeah, what Rook said. ‘Cept it would work better for me if it was Chicago instead of Mpls/St. Paul.
