50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

i am the ghost of troubled joe

  • Uncategorized

I wrapped CSI on Wednesday. A brief audioblog about it is here.
I watched the show last night with Anne and the kids, and drove them crazy with comments like, “Oh! Behind that wall is where the craft service table is!” and “See where that corridor curves? That’s the end of the set and if you take a right you’ll walk right out of the stage.” and “Jorja Fox is even more beautiful in person.” and “I was totally in that set on Monday!”
They endured my enthusiasm with patience and good humor. Heh. Anybody else see it? It was seriously the most disturbing episode I’ve ever seen.
Lots of people have asked what flavor of CSI it is, and when it will air. It’s the original CSI (the one in Las Vegas) and it was apparently going to air the first week of March, but it looks like CSI is going to be preempted by March Madness, and it will air later.
But! You can see my World Poker Tour Hollywood Home Game on the Travel Channel on Sunday February 20th. I hardly ever caught cards that night, and I hope I don’t look like a total dope when it’s cut together.
I’m playing in the WPT invitational in less than a week, and I haven’t sat at a poker table since November . . . I haven’t played NLHE in even longer, and I don’t know when I’ll have time to get my game back up to speed between now and then. I have figured out that I need an extra four hours in each day, so I have time to write, be a husband and stepfather, and play poker and D&D. Can someone get on that for me? Thanks.
My latest Games of our Lives is up. This week, I look at a Space Invaders bootleg called Cosmic Monsters:

Let’s be honest, okay? You take the Earth for granted. We all do. But a horde of Cosmic Monsters have turned their greedy, multi-faceted eyes on our Big Blue Marble, and they’re determined to bring their unique brand of alien terror to mankind! Luckily, you’ve got three shields and a missile base that moves left and right. Though the Cosmic Monsters are numerous, they don’t have the most advanced battle plan, so be prepared for them to move from side to side as they drop closer and closer to Earth. And since saving the planet may not be enough for you (it is the ’80s, after all), you will be rewarded with points, hundreds and hundreds of points, which you can use to… uh… impress your friends, or something.

Sketch is doing really well! I’m leaving in about twenty minutes to take him down to the kitty cardiologist for a re-check, but I am very hopeful that he’ll get a check-plus from his doctor. He’s eating, grooming himself regularly, and his breathing is between 24 and 36 (depending on how much he’s been playing with his Kitty Hooch mouse, of course.)
My friend Kevin is in an art show at the Richard Heller Gallery Saturday night. Kevin is a fantastic artist, and all you Westsiders should check it out.
Oh! I’m officially added to the lineup at the Creation Grand Slam show in Pasadena March 11 – 13. You’ll notice that March 12 is a Saturday, which means if you’re coming to town for the convention, you could take a field trip to Hollywood that night and catch me and two other EarnestBorg9 cast members in our supermegaawesome sketch comedy show Acme Love Machine.
It’s raining here, and there’s a pretty strong breeze blowing across my backyard. There’s a tiny hummingbird with a shiny green breast sitting on a telephone wire that connects to the eave just above my office window . . . the wire’s moving all over the place, but he’s not letting go for anything. That’s cool.

Glad to hear Sketch is doing so great. Thanks for the heads up on the CSI airing. We’re all looking forward to it. I’m considering going to GrandSlam, but it’s a bit pricey. (Are you doing the brunch thing too?) I hope you consider doing ComicCon this year as well.
cheers, and maybe catch you at Acme soon. woo!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun on CSI man, can’t wait to see it. And I know how painful it can be for the family when you break the illusion of something they’re watching, so at least they endured it with good humor (having worked on fighter jets, I used to blast Top Gun when my ex wife was watching it :P)

    Wil,
Congrats on finishing up the CSI run. I am a new fan of the show, just started watching it about two or three months ago and we’re now catching up on the stories.
Glad to hear Sketch is doing better, more Mojo from my fat cat Buster and me coming his way to keep getting better!
Good luck, and hope you can keep us all updated on when the ep of CSI will air. Thanks!

When I read the first few lines of this I thought I had missed the show because it was on last night or something. I panicked. You have GOT to let us know as soon as you have an air date.
And speaking of conventions (you did, not me) any plans to attend CIII? It

    Greetings from Dublin
(Check out my blog for pics etc),
Do you know if and when the episode of CSI is going to be shown in ireland? I dunno how far behind we are over here with the episodes or even series for that matter.
Great bout sketch, knew he’d be alright cos the condition is rarely fatal.

    Hi Wil,
I agree, last nights episode was nuts. My wife and I fell asleep before it ended, but defintely a cool episode.
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and congrats on the CSI job! Heheh, I keep wanting to say to someone “hey! I know someone that is going to be on CSI!”. Of course I do not really know you, but its neat reading your blog every day.
Please, please, please, let us know when your episode is going to air! Big neon lights and large letters would suffice on your blog. I don’t usually catch CSI every week- but now that Survivor is back on, we are Tivoing the other channel we usually watch and are watching CSI until we fall asleep.
    Anyways, thanks for blogging.

    Hey Wil,
That is so awesome about how Sketch is doing. Glad to hear the fat guy is doing great.
And about the CSI thing where you pointed out stuff to your family? Dude, I would be doing the exact same thing! I think its really cool when you walk on a TV set after watching the show, and then watching the show after being on the set you get a really cool perspective as to how the TV magic happens. But of course you know all that! LOL
Can’t wait to see the show!

  11. Rodan says:
    18 February, 2005 at 11:12 am

Last night’s episode just got more and more disturbing the more they uncovered. Brrrr! Very weird.
I have to say, the most disturbing thing was the gal having her child taken away for 5 years, with the guy stringing her along with promises, and it turned out the child had been put up for adoption 5 years ago! And they never really resolved that at the end of the episode (which I suppose is appropriate, since CSI doesn’t really get into the whole trial and sentencing part of things).
I seriously had to go check on my 4 year old son in his room after watching that episode. I really, really hate it when bad things happen to children on these shows.
Anyway, I’m glad the shoot went well for you, and I can’t wait to see your episode. And it’s good to hear that Sketch is doing so well. Gotta love the power of kitty mojo!

Yay Sketch! Good kitty! You be good for the doctor today, OK?
And Wil, I’m guessing that you have an Xbox (because you’ve mentioned not having had a chance to try Halo 2 yet); if i’m wrong, ignore the next paragraph.
But if I’m right, and if you have Xbox Live, my advice is, get yourself a copy of World Championship Poker (list price $20, cheap) and then get on Live and play some sit’n’go NLHE tournaments; that should help you warm up for the WPT. (And if you do, keep an eye out for me; my Gamertag is “ErboColo” and my avatar wears round glasses, a black polo shirt, and khaki pants, and looks like a typical geek.)
I’ll keep an eye out for when the CSI episode airs, and of course for your TV tournament appearance on Sunday!

Poker is Sunday night? No good, Carnivàle is on. Ah, but I see your Poker episode is on again Thursday night (formerly known as Must See TV night), much better. Sure, Carnivàle is also repeated during the week but I make a point of putting fiction before reality.

Thanks for the update on Sketch, it’s good to hear that he is doing better.
It’s too bad that you didn’t catch many cards when you played the WPT before, but you must not have done too badly if you are going back next week for their invitational. I suppose we will just have to watch the show to see how much of a “dope” you look like. 🙂
Sorry I won’t be able to make it to the con, but I do hope to get out there to see an ACME show. Until then, “may all your cards be live and all your pots be monsters.” (Thanks, Mike Sexton.)

First, AWESOME news about Sketch! Cats are very sensitive to the love their owners give them, and I know that fatguy is feeling better because of all of the love and warmth that you and your family have been giving him!
Second, I just can’t wait to see this CSI!!! Everything that I’m hearing sounds like you were totally in the zone with your acting! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that some other Hollywood bigshots will see the episode, watch your performance, and then remember what a damned good actor you really are!!!

Pretty nifty about CSI, Wil. My first time commenting on your blog…been reading for a while:) I’ve been going to a pretty cool house NLHE game that has a tournament coming up in March if you’re interested…small buy-in (for the not-yet-independently-wealthy entertainment industry geeks that we are!) but it’s a fun group. Of course, that won’t help you by next week, but it’s a fun way to spend a couple of hours every now and then:)

    Hey Wil,
I gotta comment… Your site is so “REAL” and down to earth! I have been checking in every now and then to see what you are up to both technology, career and your stories of your life. I laugh a lot, I can relate at times…and generally just think that you have a very solid charector foundation. You were obviously raised well!
It is interesting how you can be so open as a celebrity while *never* crossing that line of TOO MUCH INFO. Amazing really, many celibrities seem to fall into one of the extremes of too much/too little. America loves our actors! regardless.
Anyway my point… I am so happy for you. Congrats on the CSI gig…I will be watching for your episode. Life is good…
Would say I am a fan…but you know that has roots in fanatic (ew! seen too many weird TV shows about that) so I will say I am a supporter and enjoy your work! I have always thought you a talented actor and I think you have more work ahead of you.

First of all, Welcome Back Sketch! Glad to her Fat Guy is recovering well, and back into something of a regular routine!
Listened to the Audio Blog post. You can really tell how much you loved working on CSI, Wil. Even though the acting thing has gained some new life, I still think you’re going to make a much better author (not to take away from your acting skills, you RAWK) in the long run. Have you considered maybe a screenplay for a short film, or a pilot for a TV series? Your grasp of writing and character development seems perfect for it!
You’re a really passionate guy, and it shows in everything you do, especially your writing, and I’m sure it’ll come through when the episode of CSI airs. Great stuff as always!

    Hey Wil!
So a little off topic from the CSI awesomeness and coolness about the cat health… I don’t know how last night stacked up against other “Love Machine” nights, but just had to give an unbiased endorsement that the show was freakin’ brilliant. Man, it is so good to see great sketch comedy in this town. That office dance sequence was worth the price of admission. And I can hardly wait to watch for your tells on the World Poker tour. Tight comedy. Incredible direction. And the girls were actually funny instead of the usual dancer types trying to do sketch that you find here in Hollywood. There was not a single weak link in the ensemble. Everyone held their own and the bar was pretty darn high. Great work! Keep it up! I’m hauling folks out to see it again!
