time keeps on slippin slippin slippin

timeline.gif I’m sure I’m about a thousand years late to the party on this one, but I thought this was really neat. (clicky the imagey. requiresy flashy.)

  1. Neat clock.
    Horrible, horrible song.
To be fair I suppose it’s really a horrible, horrible personal association with that song. See, every day in third grade physical education we had to run around the gym to that song playing off of an old vinal record on an old warbly record player. Remember those things with the cloth covered speakers in front that I am pretty sure were purchased during the last educational funding boom in the ’50s? Every time I see any reference to that song I’m instantly transported back to that hell. The horror, the horror.

  2. I thought, “there’s a song?”
Then I realized that you were talking about “Fly like an Eagle.”
    Har.
Well, all ya can do is take the money and run, joker.

  3. “Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day”
…I love that, never seen it before. I want one for my wall. Laptop = wall…naaa.

  4. Cool little toy! Link spammed to Electric Minds’ “Mindless Link Propagation” topic. Thanks!

  5. ??? it’s got the right time zone for me… does it have the right time zone for everybody? Cause if it does then that makes it infinately cooler!

  6. It’s … mesmerizing. You know what it’s doing, and you know what it’s going to do, yet still, you can’t turn away.

It’s kind of like the Republican Party.

  7. That clock is pretty insane. Kind of makes you realize that the reality we exist in is only one moment in time. And no matter how hard you try, you can’t hang on to a moment longer than it is here. Once it’s gone, you can only remember it, but really it will never be back again.
    Anyway, Carpe Diem, Wil!
Thanks for the link – it pretty much fried my brain for the night 🙂

  8. It actually took me a good thirty seconds of staring before finally realising that its actually a… clock…?
And then I continued staring for at least another good two minutes before clicking back; mesmerized by the fact that the displayed time is correct (it appears to sync with my system clock; it can’t do an ip-lookup and then get time from a time server can it? That’d take too many cpu-cycles unless…)
And I’ve been up like all night trying to complete these designs for a display stand for some baby products company at a doctors convention somewhere…
Gotta sleep… Maybe I’ll stare at the clock for a few seconds before turning in…

  9. 1000 years? Yeah, something like that. For a while I had the page and swf file as my “Active Desktop” so that I could… I’m not sure. But it looked good.

  10. MyntCioccolatta It’s got the right time zone because it’s synced with your local PC clock. If you go into the clock, and change the time while that is running in the background, it changes the displayed time there too. Try it.
Cool link Wil. Never saw that one before. So totally stolen.
I want to say that you also inspired me to take a step I’ve been toying with for some time. I finally moved my Blogger off their servers, imported it into WordPress on a local installation to my site, configured it, did the CSS stuff so that the actual page looks like the rest of it, then found a PHP toy that would feed the RSS to the FrontPage of my site, configured THAT, then redesigned the FrontPage to make it all look good again. Thanks to you and how cool your site is.
So, now to get ALL 400 pages or so set up with SSI to call the TOC in one section, the body in another, the header in a third, so it all prints on one page. It means losing my background and theme, but it may be worth it.
Let’s see… research on how to force the top graphic to stay on the page, THEN have the repeating background, then have a bottom graphic that is dynamically placed, all while having the various CSS and SSI elements stay where they are….
Should only take a couple minutes.

  11. i dunno… maybe i have to be a cyber geek like all of ya’lls, but i looked at that and i thought… its a clock. cool clock, i guess, especially if it adjusts itself to your time zone but… its a clock. yeah. i dunno, you get all excited about that, but you bag on people for camping out for a really awesome movie? interesting…
speaking of, i just bought my tickets for SW, midnight showing of course. and i’m sure as heck not ashamed of it. 🙂 ciao

  12. While I was watching, mesmerized like a mindless borg drone, I swear I heard Robert Heinlein whispering an insanely interesting plot for a story in my ear…..wow…I must be insane, either that or…I hear dead people….

  13. ok, since I mentioned Borg drones, Wil, I must one day send you a copy of the short story I wrote for the ST short story context about seven years ago, featuring Wesley Crusher called, “Of Bugs and Borg”. I liked it… they didn’t…

  14. Wil,
I must be behind too as I have never seen it before either. Hey, I found my bedside clock was 5 minutes out.. Now it will be the only one of my many clocks I can really rely on. They all say different times! lol.
    Hugs and take care.
    Lesley

  15. Ohhhh…now I see. It is set to give you the time on your computer. If you change the date and time on your computer, the date and time will change on the clock. I couldn’t figure out why it had the same time as my computer clock, because I know my clock is like 6 minutes fast.
I still dig the colors though.

  16. I get the green line for being what time it is right now, by why is there a red line on mine slowly approaching from June? And why does it seem to inch faster with every bite of my “Ultimate Omelete” breakfast sandwich from Burger King?

  17. I’m the kind of geek that thinks this is the sort of thing that would be cool to load up just before New Year’s so I could watch all the lines line up in one straight line. ^^

  18. I must have a widget of that timeline clock on my dashboard! If noone else writes one I might have to learn how to make widgets myself.

  19. OMG, I just wasted 3 minutes and 14 seconds of my life staring at this freakin’ thing.
Well, I wanted to see if ALL the bars move.
    They do.

    (ps– who’s Rodriego Luff?)

  20. Wow! That’s cool! I’ve seen others like that but not one set up quite the same way. I book marked it.
