Thirty-three years ago today, Rick and Debbie Wheaton became my parents, and as long as I can remember, I’ve stayed up until at least midnight on July 28th, so I could watch the calendar turn, and commemorate the happy occasion by running around my lawn in my boxers, hollering out “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!”
However, now that I am the distinguished age of 33, I felt a more appropriate way to mark the passage of time would be to play a Sit-n-Go at PokerStars. I sat into a game just about 11:30, hoping that I’d still be alive at midnight, and I could celebrate with a win.
Sadly, I didn’t catch too many good hands, and when I finally pushed I had QTc vs KTo . . . and I didn’t improve, so I finished in third place, which is still in the money, and at least I didn’t lose to K4o.
I was satisfied to cash, and happy with the way I played it, and I almost went to bed, but then I thought, “Hey! It’s my birthday, goddammit! If I want to play another SNG, then that’s what I’m going to do.” I may have put my little fist on my hip as I said it, but I can’t be sure.
I sat into another one, and . . . long story short: I played a great game, caught cards when I needed them, and after a long heads-up battle, I won!
I was so excited, I ran out the front door, and raced around my lawn in my boxers, hollering, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! I WON AND IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! WOOO!”
Luckily for my neighbors, my birthday only comes once a year.

Wow! What a wealthy man you are to have so many well wishes on your birthday!
And for the record…running around the yard in your underwear is only one of the many telling acts you should be enjoying now that you’re over the 30 hump. Dig it!
Happy birthday, Wil!
Hope you have a great birthday weekend!
Hey Wil — HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I watched “Stand By Me” the other night and enjoyed it just as much as I did years ago. BTW, you share the same birthday as my mom…though you’re slightly cooler than my mom (but don’t tell her). Hope you had a great day.
Also, in my upcoming book, “Sun Signs for Writers,” I list you under the section “Who’s Who Among Leo Writers.” You’re ranked right along with old-time, classic writers. ‘Cause I figure in 100 years Wil Wheaton will BE a classic writer 🙂
Enough rambling…Happy 33rd birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday Wil!
*belated* What day is today……
its wheatons birthay…oh what a day

Happy belated birthday!
Happy (belated) Birthday. I hope your day was wonderful and the upcoming year brings you much joy and happiness.
Happy B-Day Wil!!
I am so sorry I am a day late wishing you happy B-Day. One of those days yesterday. I hope your B-Day went great! You have been through so much in the last few months and you deserve the best B-Day’s around. Your parents are lucky to have a son like you, and we are all lucky to have a friend like you. Yeah, I know you do not know most of us but we(I) still consider you a friend! Have a great weekend and the best always.
Hippy Happy Birthday to the Wilster! Sorry that I missed it, though. I was going to say go out and have some fun but I see that you DID already.
Make it so!
🙂

HEY.. Ya I’m a bit late to hop on the bandwagon, =^_^=
Hey, Wil.. Happy 33rd!
Hope it was a blast.. look forward to playing with
you on pokerstars! Or try to 😛
You should check out absolutepoker.com
I love that site.
I’ve been a fan ever since STAND BY ME
And you are an amazing person.
Don’t let anyone tell you other wise.. you are
not a has-been actor.
Most people will never do the good
you have done with the charity walks.
Keep it up!

I think you have truly achieved this.
Sir, it comes to my attention that we have the same birthday. I, for one, am honored to say that I was born the same day that the ubergeek himself….turned 12 I guess…..I’ve lost all credibilty now. Happy birthday to us!!!
Happy birthday, Wil! (January 6th, 1971 myself, weirdly the very same day, Wednesday that actress Joey Lauren Adams was born in.)
Anyway – I’m watching “In a Mirror, Darkly” and wondering. Could Slar the Gorn in the normal universe be the same one who fought Kirk in “Arena”, as in this was the same Gorn, except 100 years younger. A reptile species like the Gorn could well outlive humans.
That would mean that Gorn elders may be slower like the Gorn that fought Kirk was. It would explain how easy it was for Kirk to fight it. A Gorn as old as that one would naturally be the captain, never leaving the bridge but still commanding out orders to his pack. Imagine the horor of a YOUNGER Gorn mercilessly slaughtering helpless Kirk within seconds of the Metrons setting down one from each side.
I should pose this question for Dr. Hal Robins – He would know this stuff for certain.
Hippy Happy Birthday to the Wilster! Sorry that I missed it, though. I was going to say go out and have some fun but I see that you DID already.
Make it so!

Happy Birthday! 33 is a fabulous age – and it’s symmetrical to boot.
Happy B-day! Enjoy it!
Hey Wil-
I hope you’re having a molto groovy birthday weekend!
I always thought you were a lot younger than me. We’re only a year and a half apart. Oh well. Surprise surprise. Happy birthday… old man. 🙂
By the way, how are you FEELING? Did you survive the “trifecta”? Would be good to hear an update.
belated happy birthday wishes from the Sisterhood! *throws confetti and sends good mojo*
Hello Mr. Wheaton,
This is the first time I’ve come to your blog and I see it’s your birthday! The 20th was my birthday (I turned 24). See, it’s true… all the cool people were born in July!
Happy (belated) Birthday buddy! You rocked me hard in Toy Soldiers….
I can’t recall any details about my last five birthdays, as I got quite drunk celebrating each one. I’m sure I did something as outrageous as running around my lawn in my underwear, shouting to the heavens (or, perhaps, something worse); I just wish I could remember…
Happy belated Birthday, Mr Wheaton!
I found this today. I’m sure you already have your own.

I say that should call you up for an Aqualad movie.

Firstly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!
And having recently discovered that I am pregnant, I sit here wondering if my soon-to-be baby will someday be dancing around on our lawn in their underwear, on their birthday. hahaha Thanks for THAT image!!! (teasing)
Congrats on third place, bday boy!
I just wanted to point out that the number 3 represents Chaos. So effectively 33 is double-chaos. Well Wil, I hope you enjoy the Chaos to come this year.
I never realized how many little girls out there
just like me who harbored an intense crush on you
even though you are ten years older than I am. Now Iwill let the world know, with pride, that I
have been a fan of yours since I was twelve, and
still am. Also I just bid on a photo from Star
Trek:TNG you autographed (the cutest picture
ever) and I really enjoyed your book. WFS was the
FUNNIEST thing I have read in a long time. And
all those Wesley Crusher haters can go @#$%
themselves.
Mary-Ann
Sorry I missed your birthday. I hope you had a great one.
I turned 34 two weeks ago. I didn’t realize we were so close in age. I didn’t see TNG until 1989 and didn’t know enough to realize that the show had been taped years before. It was easy to make that assumption back then when the channel I watched it on touted it as new and Al Gore hadn’t invented the internets yet.
33 is a magic number. Enjoy it. *goes back to complaining about music being too loud per old person code*
I’m late! Happy Birthday regardless! Hope it was a fabulous weekend for you.
hey wil
heard you mention the blog on vh1.
so happy to see your alive and happy.
im your age so it strangely feels like i grew up with you. was wonderful to see you again. Good luck…-shawn spector, mct aka buckaroobonzai
Belated birthday greetings, fellow Leo. (I turn 35 on 8/17 – always thought I was more than two years older than you. Suddenly I feel less old.)
In our family, birthdays continue til all the cake is gone.
Dr. Howll reploes to my question –
Dear Dr. Howll,
Could a reptile species like the Gorn outlive humans and if so by how much approximately?
Governor Rocknar
Dear Governor Rocknar,
The Gorn captain, a mature specimen, was most probably a female, as these tend to be more aggressive and robust than the males. A heterotherm, with variable metabolic rates and biological stratagems for maintaining body heat, the Gorn warrior was probably, as you suggest, a long-liver. A reptilian biped of the Gorn’s mass might be expected to have evolved an insulating integument, but shows no sign of it in “Arena,” indicating that such a being is the product of a planet with an overall greater basal temperature than that of Earth. The Gorn homeworld is likely to have a gravity and temperature higher than terrestrial standard; thus the one that fought Kirk had the advantage of superior strength.
Any Gorn might, if unchecked, live several human lifetimes of today, though few would, since most in their culture die violent deaths before attaining anything like a full lifespan. Of course, in Kirk’s time and after, human life expectancy will be artificially increased. Dr. McCoy lived to an advanced age, as did the half-human Vulcan hybrid Spock
Without knowing, one can only theorize.
But I accept your view that the Gorn in “Mirror” could easily be the same one from “Arena.”
Yours,
H. Owll
I had no internet all weekend and am about to go into dial up hell for a month.. so I apologize for the late but sincere Birthday wishes wil. 😉
I can’t believe you won on your birthday that is just awesome. w00t!
33 is a |337 age. 😛
*Birthday Hugs*
Happy birthday. Feel free to continue running around in your boxers. 😀
~Mietta
I haven’t been around a while, so I just found this to wish you Happy Birthday. I’d sing it as is fitting for a vocal music major, but I’m afraid it’d come out in Italian or French or something.
Oh, and I feel like telling the world that you run around the lawn in your boxers just because I can. I’m sure it’ll annoy my friends after a while if they start hearing too many Wil Wheaton tidbits. Ooh! I’ve got to tell Reanna!
I am a little late doing this. But here goes!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY boxer GUY! I do hope you had a wonderful one! Those 4 days with your family sounded great!
FireFlii
probably a little late with this comment, but what is your pokerstars name? one of the main reasons i switched from bodog to pokerstars was to possibly get a chance to play with you in a sit-n-go (and to have better players to hone my skills against).
I know that I’m almost a week late, but Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy belated birthday! I always thought I was several years older than you. It turns out I’m barely a few weeks older. Ahh well. Welcome to 33! It’s a gas. 😀
Even though you don’t know me from a hole in the ground (why should you?), I still feel that a total stranger can wish you all the best for your 33rd year.
I vaguely remember being 33. I think it was good. I know I looked good, and so do you. But then everybody looks good when they’re only 33.
Now, 48… hard to look good then.
Enough about me. Happy (belated) birthday!
