Anne and I are planting and working in the backyard today, listening to Coldplay (X&Y is awesome), and talking like dorks to our dogs.
I just got off the phone with Dan Goldman from PokerStars, who told me some HUGE news about today’s WCOOP event. From the pokerstars blog:
BREAKING NEWS: Barry Greenstein hits PokerStars Radio
The Robin Hood of poker is at it again. Poker pro Barry Greenstein will host PokerStars Radio tonight for the final table of WCOOP Event #7. Click here to listen when the tournament gets down to the final table.
As it happens, Greenstein is actually playing in Event #7 today under his screen name crazyplayer. In true Greenstein fashion, he plans to donate any winnings tonight to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. In the continuing effort to help the ravaged Gulf Coast, PokerStars will match any contribution Greenstein makes with his winnings.
Click on “Tourney” then “WCOOP” then “Event #7” to watch the action.
I’ve got a post all about this over at CardSquad, for those of you who are interested in this sort of thing.
Now, I’m back to the yard. I mean, back to the backyard. To the future. Back to the future in my backyard.
Back to making a nice future in my backyard. Yeah, that’s it.

JOHN
Oh goody, I’m one of the first posts on this thread. There is nothing better for the soul then playing in the dirt!
That’s all.
Cool about Barry Greenstein. It got a little hazy when you got back to the yard. Or the backyard…wherever it was you were.
Hey Wil, I have enjoyrd you blog for many years…have the books, own the t.shirt. Love to hear about Anne and the boys and the pets and your rambles about various topics…but recently it has become all about poker, I don’t play,I have no idea what you are talking about, can’t you go to a poker site and talk about that stuff ? I have to admit I rarly read you any more….I miss you Willow !
I was going to say the same thing seps. Maybe you could create a separate blog for your poker news.
I blog about what’s going on in my life. Right now, there’s a lot of poker going on in my life.
If that’s not interesting to you, nobody is forcing you to read about it.
But Wil, don’t you know? You’re suppose to write what other people want to hear about, not what you want to write about! (was that dripping with enough sarcasm?)
Hey Wil, I wasn’t trying to be rude,I guess my point was, I don’t read it anymore, because I don’t understand or have any interest in the poker stuff, You of course are entittled to write about whatever you want to, I just miss the other stuff. And I still wear the shirt !
seps: I don’t think there’s any way you can say “Can’t you go to a poker site and talk about that stuff?” without being rude … especially when Wil has moved most of his poker blogging to a poker site.
However, employing a family nickname that I seriously doubt you have been given permission to use is certainly one way to be ruder still.
So i’m listening to the pokerstars radio, and Barry just went out, and he’s telling this story about when he was working at Symantec when it was still a small company. And there was this guy there, named Bill, apparently, who wasn’t much of a programmer, and the management actually wanted to fire him, but he had this hobby of collecting programs that could hurt your computer. Well everybody thought this guy was useless, but Barry said he thought Bill was a nice guy and felt bad for him, and said, “isn’t there somewhere we can use this guy?” This is before the internet existed and so there really wasn’t any way for these programs to get on your computer, but since Symantec had acquired Norton, Barry convinced them to throw this guy’s little program into Norton’s Utilities. And a few years later, the internet grew and now the work of this guy that Symantec wanted Barry to fire was now the “focal point” of what is today a Billion dollar industry.
Neat anecdote for a pokerstars broadcast.
p.s. Wil, rick charles actually just mentioned in passing that you were on his net-radio broadcast the other day. Did you or anybody else record it for “posterity’s sake” (so that WWDNers can take a listen)?
oh yeah, I forgot to mention – it’s NORTON ANTIVIRUS!
The Killers’ “Hot Fuss” is even awesomer!!!!
And yardwork sucks. I have to do some tomorrow. 😛
X&Y?
More like U&2, am I right?
Wil, in reference to your posts a few days ago about your site changing and not knowing how much you’re going to be on here — don’t sweat it. Write what you want, when you want, how often you want. It’s your life, your deal. Those who don’t dig it won’t hang out. Those who do, will. You’re doing it for yourself bottom line, yes? Why worry about us?
Ahhh….for a back yard. Then I wouldn’t hear the oompah-loompahs next door so well (the music they play…the tuba and accordion stuff….AIIIIIIEEE!) But that just reminded me. Need to get another spool for the weed-whip. Have fun, and playing in the dirt (like Peter Gabriel’s “Digging in the Dirt”) IS fun. =) Enjoy your day!
Y’know, I’m interested in checking out Pokerstars. Is there any chance they’ll be making a Linux client?
Berry Greenstein is who is and plays a solid
game because he has it all in perspective. It
is all about life and the game! Money is secondary; only a tool to play with and utilize
to improve othere peoples live as well as his own! I know from personal experience he is what he plays in his game!
