50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

back to winter

Posted on 13 January, 2006 By Wil

We got home late last night, after a really bumpy and seemingly never-ending flight. Have you noticed that when you want to get home after a long trip, everything seems to take twice as long? We waited an hour to get our bags at LAX, then an additional 35 minutes for the car to pick us up. It’s a good thing I was rested and travelling with my wife, or I would have been super cranky.

I’ll have a massive trip report up as soon as I unpack and wash my clothes, and get caught up on my e-mail, bloglines, real mail, and whatever else has piled up over the last ten days (don’t worry, all the poker stuff will be at CardSquad.com, so you can read the entire trip, or just the stuff that interests you.)

I didn’t know LA had winters. Did you live in Kansas long enough to experience a Kansas winter? Our specality is cold, REALLY cold, blazing warm, cold, warm, cold, BLIZZARD, warm enough to melt off the five feet of snow the day after the blizzard and dreary cold.
I have bum knee and when the season’s change, it hurts pretty bad. In the summer, it hurts off and on because of the tornado’s. If it hurts in the winter, that’s bad news because it usually doesn’t but boy has it gotten a work out this winter!

Why not fly into Burbank? I know there’s not as many direct flights in and out, but to me it’s worth it just to avoid anything to do with LAX if at all possible. BUR is such a nice little airport, too. =)

It’s great that being with your wife in that situation relaxes you. I don’t know how many people (myself included) could say the same.

I always had this theory that LAX itself has this center-of-the-universe-time-warp-black-hole-antimatter-void-type thing going on, which in itself can distort time in such a way that you feel as if you’re in the 7th layer of hell. And my layover was only 45 minutes.

Much jealousy that you nabbed a trip to Atlantis. Been wanting to check that out for a few years now.
Welcome home, and looking forward to the trip report.

    Wil,
I was wondering if you smoke? And, if you ever grow a beard or facial hair? I have never seen pictures either way. Are there any? I miss you on Star Trek.

Good to have ye back, Cap’n! Arrrrgh! Here’s hoping you had a killer time in the Caribbean while those of us in the East trudged through some astonishingly weird weather. 30s, then 50/60s and now back to the chills. The islands are sounding pretty damn good right now, poker or no.
T: Don’t take it as Gospel, as I don’t know Wil at all apart from his blogs and books. But I think it can be safely inferred that he doesn’t smoke, and would be a bit closer to anti-smoking than just passive…
    /hopes he got that right

“Back to winter?” I’ll have to send this to the judges but, from the vantage point of Detroit, mid to upper sixty degree weather does not qualify as winter. Then again, it’s all about perspective. I can already hear those keyboards in Minot, North Dakota and Caribou, Maine clicking away

Your spagetti photo from your Bahamas trip is called “Temple of the Sun” by Dale Chihuly, 1998. His work can be found in art galleries and bldgs around the world.
