A funny follow-up to my previous post, that had completely washed out of my brains until moments ago, when for some inexplicable reason the theme to Get Smart made me remember:
About a year ago, Anne and I were driving home down Santa Monica near Highland in Hollywood. It was the beginning of afternoon rush hour traffic, so when I saw a person waiting to make a left from a side street, I stopped to let him go across in front of us. See, I try to do nice things like that, because I believe the world would be a much better place if everyone made an effort to do little things, like hold doors open, let people with fewer items cut in front in the checkout, say "thank you" . . . things like that.
Anyway, I stop to let this guy pull out across in front of us, and Anne says, "Dude! That’s totally Fabio!"
"What? Where?!" I said.
"Driving the car you just let in front of us!"
I laughed, because Anne and I occasionally play the celebrity look alike game, too.
We were silent for a second or two, and we both realized that that the car was a Bentley, and the driver was, indeed, Fabio.
"Oh my god!" I said. "It really is Fabio!"
Anne and I decided that this momentous occasion warranted an immediate and vigorous high-five.
Fabio waved his hand at me in the universal "thank you," gesture, turned West onto Santa Monica, and drove into the Sunset. We continued East into our mundane, non-Fabio lives.

Wil,
Now thats California driving. I can’t wait to get back.
FG
This made me laugh, because my son would never recognize or care about Fabio, but would have exactly that reaction if he saw *you* drive by.
And then I got an image of you high-fiving yourself because you’d caught your own glance in the rear-view mirror…
A friend of mine and I saw Angeline on Sunset Blvd once in her Pink Corvette and she waved at us as we passed by her.
How classic that Fabio turned and drove off into the sunset. Only in California.
Now, if you had followed him a little bit further, you probably would have seen a seagull crash into his windshield. THAT would have been funny.
I have registered specifically to nominate
“We continued East into our mundane, non-Fabio lives.”
As the bestest line in a blog 2006.
Honestly, considering the paths your careers have taken, I find it more likely that Fabio was saying to himself (I imagine he talks to himself often), “Oh my god! Wil Wheaton just let me into traffic!”
🙂
Right, tim… I can just imagine that post about a year ago on “Fabio Dot Net.”
That reminds me of the time I got cut off in traffic by the Stanley Cup. Only the stanley cup didn’t wave back. In fact, it quickly exited the bus with Scotty Gomez and went into a bar full of people who were cool enough not to get stuck behind a double parked bus.
Hi Wil,
It’s so cool you and Anne are playing the celebrity look alike game. I live in Potsdam, Germany, and believe it or not, but Harvey Keitel is selling tobacco at the main station. I never stop wondering why his German is so good. By the way, I love how you choose lines from really cool songs for your titles. Pot Kettle Black’s one of my favorites, too.
Good thing you never dated Fabio, because then Anne would have had to dump your ass. LOL
Man, I laffed aloud here at 4:30am alone in my house when I read that Fabio story!!! I mean why on God’s green earth would the word FABIO pop up on the Wil Wheaton website / blog? So, of course, I had to read. (I haven’t been back to the site in several months…) This was a welcome return for me. Can’t wait til the site is up & fully functional once again. Keep those jolly ‘pick-me-up’ stories comin’!
VickyB out.
I’m sorry, but am I the only one who thinks that it would have been funny as shit if a seagull had flown into his window and smashed him in the nose?
i know this has absoloutely nothing to do with your blog, but, I’m sure I read somewhere on your previous website you liked Radiohead? Right…or maybe it was an advertisment, I’m sure it wasn’t but anyway, what I’m trying to get to is, Radiohead are amazing and if you like them undoubtedly you’ll like Placebo. One of the most amazing bands going, they’re music’s truly beautiful.
