While channel surfing, I just discovered that my episode of CSI, Compulsion, is about to start on the West Coast.
So if you’d like to see me and my sweater, put on your local CBS station, and enjoy!
Afterthought: I’m having a really shitty day, which included an absolutely terrible audition (my fault, not theirs), and accidentally discovering that this is on has brightened my spirits just a little bit. I’m real proud of the work I did on CSI, and it’s nice to remember how good it felt to earn the part, work on the show, and watch the episode when it first aired.
"Finders keepers!"

The clown sweater was better π
Awesome! I watched it once, then watched the first new CSI I’ve seen in a while, then waited for Walter again!
It was fun watching my roommates try to figure out if Walter was the EvilBad or not, since they’d never seen that episode before. One didn’t even believe me that it was you who was Walter.
… And I’ll stop babbling now.
…and you’ve never looked better, Wil! π
I usually skip the reruns, especially if I’ve taped them , but I’m watching this one on tape (wife’s hooked on Dancing with the “Stars”) just for you!
I’ve been comparing the three CSIs lately, and came to the conclusion this is the best of the lot. The chracters in Miami just don’t grab me the same way, and I just haven’t really watched NY very much. I think a lot of it goes back to the coments you mae back when you were filming, about how much the cast and the crew obviously really like working together. Maybe the other two are just as folksy, but with the Vegas version, it really shows. Maybe it’s because none of the actors were Big Names like David Caruso or Gary Sinise (when they started, anyway), so it’s not as wrapped around one personality. I dunno, but anyway, you picked the good one to be on (or, I guess, they picked you).
I watched it too!!!
I thought THAT was the new episode. And I was half glancing at the screen while the credits were rolling. And I saw “WIL WHEATON”. And was like noooooooo wayyyyy! Of course, I immediately told everyone I was chatting with, including ppl on my IRC channel. And some of them were like, no way! Wil Wheaton’s on CSI? What channel?
And then, which one is he?!?! And… What’s his website again!?
It was really cool π
And you did an excellent job. I especially liked the hand shaking/playing with the fingers thing when they were interrogating you. π
It was the highlight of my night too!! Damn Canadiens lost again π
Wow, I didn’t realize that was you. However, I do remember the episode and thinking how good the actor was. Guess next time I should read the credits. I prefer Vegas to the others myself. π
psst… you should add “interesting” to your Buzznet Buzz words list.
Loved the episode and I’d watch it a million times over. BY THE WAY, WIL…I’m not sure how to actually get your attention, but my editor at Writer’s Digest Books wants blurbs for my upcoming first book on writing…and I’d LOVE to send you some pages ’round May and ask you (politely) for a blurb. I respect you as a writer a great deal and it would make my day to have your blurb on my book! I’d shine your shoes…or something! π
To be honest, from the time it first aired, I thought this particular epsiode of CSI was kind of weak. I remember having read about the audition on your blog and looked forward to it with great anticipation – I was not disappointed with Walter by any means – but perhaps my anticipation of the episode colored my overall opinion. Also, I still think of ‘dark beaver’ and the role you didn’t get when I see the beginning of this episode. However, when compared to episodes like ‘Slaves of Las Vegas’ or ‘Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas’ or ‘King Baby’, the episode ‘Compulsion’ doesn’t quite hold up as well. Then again, I’d rather watch re-runs of any of the Las Vegas CSI ep’s than any of those cheesy knock-offs.
So – any news on that pilot you auditioned for back in one of your audio diaries in Radio Free Burrito, Episode n+? ?
Hi Wil! I’ve been reading for a long time, and this is my first time commenting. Fwee!!!
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I saw your CSI episode on Spike a few weeks back, and I absoloutely loved it. You’re such a wonderful, great actor, I try to catch your work whenever I can!
I’m a huge fan of yours (hell, I asked you for an autograph at ComicCon one year, and I was shaking and giggling like a nervous little fanboy the whole time), including your books (of which I own both) and your bloch (which we’re all a fan of. ^_^).
very cool. will have to watch out for that episode…or watchout for a guy looking like you in that episode!!
Ya know, I sincerely hope you take this as a credit to your acting career, but I saw this on a Netflix rental 2 days ago and I had *NO FREAKING IDEA* that was you.
I kept looking at it going “I should know who this actor is, and I don’t”, and I think it was not just the makeup that threw me off.
I had never seen you act a part (or makeup) like that, and it was fantastic! I’ve seen several different actors in action over the years, but this one takes the cake. Kudos to you on a job well done!
(P.S.: I deliberately avoided looking for the information on the episode you starred in, just to see if I would be able to locate you in the episode during the season, and I totally missed it :/ )
Love that episode. Had just gotten home tonight from class and was feeling sick, when my roomate beamed, “Come watch Wil Wheaton!”
Still remember eagerly waiting all week last year for it to air.
Fabu job, sir.
cool to see that one again Wil. Wasn’t expecting a second CSI tonight and having your episode on again was a bonus.
cheers, Mike
That has to be one of my favorite episodes. It’s way aswesome and you did a great job.
My sister has the season 5 DVDs, so I actually got to watch this one for the first time a couple days ago.
Interesting episode, though you kinda wanna take a brick to the kid’s face by the end of it.
I also found it kinda funny when they were pulling you out of your box, ‘cuz I got to thinking “You know, if somebody asked ‘I wonder what happened to Wil Wheaton?’ and I showed them this scene, what would their reaction be?”
I missed this when it first came out, so it was a new episode for me… except that I had read a bunch of praise that your other blog fans had posted on WWdN.
All I can say is wow – you were so deep into “Walter” that it’s like you were physically altered by the experience. If I hadn’t known to look for you as the crazy homeless guy, I wonder if I would have even recognized you at all. Great job, Wil!
I hope that seeing this episode reaffirms your talent to you so that you can dust off today’s not-so-hot audition and look for the next role to sink your teeth (and all the rest of you, apparently) into!
Walter is so pretty. I wish he was my boyfriend.
π
Auditions come and go, writing lasts forever. Work on your book instead, Wil. You’ll feel much better.
Now if only I could take my own advice and get back to that script. hmmm.
Damn you Wheaton! lol.
Ok, I didn’t see the episode, but when I opened the page, the picture sure scared the crap out of me. Wow! That’s good makeup work, cuz I know you ain’t that ugly.
As for today’s audition, don’t worry. You’ll get it next time. You know you’re good. But I think there’s something in the air. Crappy day all around, my friend. Tomorrow will be better….
Shauna
Do you know it’s not even aired in Finland yet? It was supposed to be this week, but the darn presidential run-offs means we get debates instead.
If anyone is watching Conan, you’re up on what’s happening in the Finnish presidential elections. π
And despite what Fox News said about it, it’s the presidential election, and not the prime minister election. But who reads this blog that also watches Fox News? π
Anyway, I had already taken a sneak peak at Walter thanks to the wonders of bit torrent, but I look forward to seeing him in on the small-big screen any week now!
Yeah, too bad he couldn’t have worn the clown-sweater.
I came home tonight and my roommate announced happily, “I’m watching a CSI I actually haven’t seen yet!” Unfortunately, I had most certainly already seen it.
I should see you in a shitty wig convulsing and mumbling “finders keepers!” every day after work.
I caught your name in the opening credits as I was walking past the tv and immediately plunked myself down on the couch to watch it. I told my wife that you were in it and to watch out for you.
Your first scene came and went and she said nothing. Then I said, “That was Wil Wheaton.”
She had no idea.
She spent the rest of the episode in shock every time you were on. She was very impressed.
Rock on, dude.
The prosthetic double-chin they added is a nice touch.
. . . at the time, I had no tv and so one of your other WWdN readers mailed me a videotape of the show which I watched in the school library’s media center with headphones and a bag of chips. Great fun watching all the woo-woo dream stuff and waiting for your entrances. And for the life of me, I couldn’t understand why the Whole Show wasn’t just Walter Walter Walter π You did such an excellent job . . .
*shrieks in terror* lol. jk. It was all out of humor.
Somehow, I keep missing Compulsion everytime it is aired. I don’t know how I do that, because I am always looking out for it.
Someday. : )
So…is that a pic of you in character or just you first thing in the morning? lol Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Great performance on CSI!! Don’t concern yourself too much with the shitty audition…there will be others. π
You need to shave, dude! Haha…my daughter and I were glued to the set the night this episode first came on…we were literally cheering when we saw you/r character come on. It truly was the highlight of CSI that night for sure! Thanks for this Wil!
hahaha! that episode is great, it was on a week ago or so on Spike!. my roommates sqealed with glee when you showed up. being the man of the hose, it is my job not to squeal with glee at anything. but i did enjoy it heartily.
Hey, I saw it last night here in Vancouver. Great episode altogether.
BTW, I think the juxtaposition of Walter’s picture and the one of young Wil in the side bar is quite… interesting.
Sorry about the audition – maybe something else will happen that will completely make up for it.
My day is going great – I told my son’s teacher’s aid that I was going to the grocery store & then looked at my son & ask him if he needed anything. He then replied “plu” – that is his word for apple so he not only reponded but he did a correct responds – now if I can get more words out of him but when he only uses the p,m,b,t,s,sh – working on k,g,f,d – you really can’t say alot. I should stop it isn’t like anyone here really cares anyways but I’m happy.
I hope your day improves & have a great week-end
That had to have been the only first-run episode of CSI that I’ve missed in the last year or so, but happened to catch it last night when my wife saw your name in the opening credits.
And even though you busted me out of this weeks WWdN tourney, I stuck around to watch. π
Great job!
I was shocked when I found out it was you…which is a compliment. Nice work! I’ll see if the DH can download it so we can watch it again.
Sorry you are having a shitty day. You should go right out and rent Aristocrats. It will cheer you up faster than you can say, “Poop!”. *giantgrin*
Oh man, go to the Snopes/Urban Legends website and check out the title for today’s (Jan. 27) “What’s New” legend:
http://www.snopes.com/info/whatsnew.asp
Should give Wil and all his posse a grin!
Wil, you make an excellent crazy, homeless guy! π
This was my second time seeing it and I have to say that your performance is just as good. Do you have it on tape or anything?
Hey Wil,
Sorry ’bout the shitty day w/ the audition. BUT, I MUST say, this was one of my most favorite CSI episodes….. EVER! You were absolutely great!! I never was able to get into the Miami or NY CSIs anyway. Take care & chin up!
Just watched the ep! I was impressed, I saw your name in the opening credits. I watched it looking for you and never saw you. So I asked a friend where were you in the ep, she told me “Walter.” Great job! Didn’t even recognize you, watching it again.
I’m so bummed that I missed the episode! Seriously… CSI is the only current TV show I watch. So when will Compulsion run again, do you have any idea?? Now I’m dying to see it. The blog rocks, by the way!
Your presence onscreen scared the flying crap out of one of my cats. It was the funniest thing I’d seen all week. The cat, that is, not your performance. Your performance was like a bad trip, but, you know, it a -good- way. And sorry too about the audition. You’ll knock them dead next time. :p
Hey Wil, just thought you’d find this amusing.
We were watching the infamous “Walter” episode the other night, and I literally had to convince my Mother that Walter was you. She kept saying “No, that isn’t “Weasel!” until my Stepdad chimed in and ruled in my favor.
In case you were wondering, “Weasel” was her nickname for your character on ST:TNG.
Afterward, she commented “Wow, he’s a better actor than I gave him credit for!” A better actor, indeed :-)!!
I had drama class last night and it was horrible. It was my second class there and I had to do improvisation with two other people. We were given one minute for one person to die and I didn’t feel comfortable to start screaming when the girl did die, so it wasn’t “realistic” as commented many times by a snobby girl. Afterwards, the girl went up to do the improvisation and started screaming and stuff just to rub it in our faces. I just felt like I done terribly and have been given myself such a hard time about as I know I could have done better, so, don’t worry, I can relate to your feelings on your audition, even if it wasn’t someone trying to rub how well at acting they are in your face. We all fuck up sometimes!
I’m not sure CSI comes on much here. I must see if comes on UKgold or something cause I really want to see it.:(
Wil, I’m sorry it was rough but cheer up. π There are much better things on your horizon.
Danni-girl, that was unfair of your snobby little drama classmate. I have been around real death and what she did sounds less like drama and more slapstick, ridiculous humor. Granted, I have been around families that have gone truly ballistic over the death of a loved one but, not often.
She’s just good at being cheesy. π Plus, it is your second time in class. People need to get a swift kick in the ass by common sense, respect, and reality.
not being a CSI viewer prior to your appearance on the show , i didn’t know what to expect…but you really nailed the character…you radiated an insane, creepy vibe…and i mean that in a good way…i think that episode of CSI is a great promo for Wil Wheaton, versitile actor…you are capable of so much more than you’ve been given the chance to do.

It’s all Wil all the time this weekend… surfed past Pax (!?!) tonight and saw a familiar face… there was Wil, in a movie called Book of Days from 2003. It’s always good to see you!
Yah, Wil. I myself was “blessed” to have accidently surfed past Pax last night [now called “i” for “Independent” Network, Cathy] and stumbled on Book of Days, which I thoroughly enjoyed. No “sweater” but the suit looked great! Nice performance. Your love for Ann seemed to shine through in your portrayal of the character…Continued success in all you do!
Wil – maybe you could contact the CSI folks and see if “Walter” might show up in another script; you know homeless folks have their usual haunts and habits, and so he might be a source of info to the team(s) – although very very distrustful because of the previous experience. Hell – maybe you should write a CSI episode with Walter in it!
Just when I thought I’d seen every episode of CSI…
You know I missed it the first time it aired so when we went to watch the CSI episode that we had set the DVR to record the nite before and the opening credits showed you starring the hubby said “Did that just say Wil is in this?” and rewound it and was like.. oh that must be his walter episode! sure enough it was.
We were both really impressed by your performance in this and agreed that this should blow the hell out of the wesley crusher image that has been hanging over your head for so long.
Nice work wil.
P.S. Thor says hi too. π
