50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

WWdN tourneys at pokerstars

  • WWdN in Exile

This is your semi-regular reminder that the WWdN
Friday game on Tuesday is tonight, and while I have your attention, I’ll also remind you that the Thursday game is the
day after tomorrow.

After much tweaking of the schedules, I’ve decided that the games will always take place
at 8:30 EST on Tuesday, and 8:30 PST on Thursday. This should give everyone a chance to make it home from work, school,
or the Regal Beagle in time to play.

A question for European players: are there more than five of you? I’m
happy to host a once-a-month European-friendly game that would start very early (around noon Pacific) to accomodate you
guys, if there’s enough interest.

Also, don’t forget that everyone who enters the Tuesday game has a shot at
the WWdN Tournament of Champions, which is a free-roll SNG, sponsored by PokerStars
. If you win a Tuesday game, you’ll
get a chance to play against me and seven other winners for some serious money, just because PokerStars loves you that
much. I’ve been remiss in getting the first ToC scheduled, and I’ll take care of that shortly.

Here are the
details for tonight’s game, which is the first game to be named after a previous champion, who I also happen to consider a friend:

What: WWdN: penner42
Invitational
Where: PokerStars.
When: Tuesday, January 31. 8:30 EST
Password: monkey
Tournament
number:
18610753
Buy-in: $10 1

We’re averaging about 70 players per game. I’d
love to get that number up over 100, so the final two tables pay. Any suggestions on how to do that?

Had a nice experience with The Hammer this weekend at Palace Station. Raise before the flop; makes it head up. 7 on the turn, 7 on the river. He never knew what hit him!!

PokerStars doesn’t advertise the game in it’s pop-up box does it? The one that shows up when you log in? Or pop-up during games in the chat box?

So, Wil. I know you’re an OS X and Linux user, so how do you play at PokerStars? Have you got a secret, shameful Windows machine stashed away in the office for the single purpose of online poker?
I ask only ‘cos I’ve “made the switch”, and there’s no OS X version of PokerStars…

Stephen – PokerStars runs perfectly in the Windows Emulator WINE on Linux, and on VirtualPC on the Mac.
I have both, and play accordingly.
Hope to see you in a game soon!

The only ideas I have to up the amount of players is to lower the entry fee. It’s mainly for bragging rights, isn’t it?
That and a promise that every entry will go towards kicking Bush out of office!

As a European player who has *only* ever played for real money in the WWDN tourneys, I would love the chance to play in a monthly WWDN tourney.

How about you publish a Computer Poker Tournament For Dummies booklet, for those of us too scared of our computers to try and figure out how to get involved!

tanyak, it honestly isn’t that hard…this was my first crack at it – finished 49/101 so no glory – but signing up was pretty straightforward – just go to tourneys, then private, look for WWDN invitational, and click on it…after your register you just hang out and it starts. That was the most fun I’ve had on pokerstars in a long time, so for anyone on the fence like I was about it…it’s a lot of fun not that complicated.

I’m in Europe! I play poker! I’d like to play!
Slightly less enthusiasm? Okay. Yeah, tourneys being at a better time for European folks would be good – I’m sure there’d be a few people who’d play 🙂

Another Euro-reader here. I have played in one WWdN tourney which started at 5pm EST (which was 10pm UK time). I enjoyed it a lot and even managed to (virtually) sit next to Wil at one point.
I would certainly like some more Euro-friendly tourneys, its quite a struggle to play at any time later than 10pm.

Also making it easier to get money in to the account would be great. I really want to play but I can’t figure out any danged way to get money in to my danged poker stars account.

How about picking a time that is not impossible for West Coast people with standard work schedules (and/or families)? 10 PM EST would have been a reasonable start. Also, while the complain switch is on… It is teh suck that your TOC is based on the Tuesday game only rather than including the afterthought Thursday game that is more West Coast friendly.

Any suggestions on how to do that?
Put them on Wednesdays? I made two Friday games and loved them, but I can pretty much guarantee I won’t make a Tuesday game until July. I’ll hit the Thursday games when I can, which will probably also only be once every few months.
Because it’s all about me. 😉

I love the idea of a Wil Wheaton tourney. I played last night in fact. But I have to say, I couldn’t believe how many people play 72os in this games, and then start yelling HAMMER HAMMER.
If I can offer a little constructive criticism, those people are going to be much better players when they stop having a special name for the worst hand in the game, unless than name is “Aaaahhh, FOLD FOLD FOLD!!!”
If you spend all your time trying to win with the statistically most unlikely hand there is, you’re going to spend most of your time losing.

Wil, I just wanted to thank you for putting together these tournaments. This was only the second time I have ever played for money online and the first time was one of your games late last year. I joined PokerStars because of your tournaments and the fun comments I have read from the bloggers. I realize I am not the best player and got very lucky many times last night, but most treated me well. I don’t think I did too many donkey moves, but I did play the hammer once for kicks and it went to a full house to bust a high 2 pair. This wasn’t the classiest move, but my luck held to river a 7 after I already had two pair. Boobie Lover correctly said in his blog that he did play better, but I appreciate all of the positive comments that you and others made about the great heads up battle. I completely understand your feelings about taking a break. I guess its like golf, a good birdie on 18 really gets you jazzed for the next game. Thanks for welcoming me in to your community, I look forward to giving back my winnings to Waffles, Boobies, Nickerson and the rest of the bunch.

I’d love a Euro WWDN event! It’s either that or I have to start taking holiday from work so that I can stay up late on Tuesdays and Thursdays 😉
