50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

two

  • WWdN in Exile

Two things you probably didn’t know about me:

  1. I’ve always wanted to be a bartender.
  2. This Nextel thing with the guys dancing around to Salt-n-Pepa makes me laugh real hard whenever I see it.

That Nextel commercial has to be one of my all-time favorites. I think what makes it even more hilarious is that the Treasurer/City Clerk of our city (Jamestown, NY) looks just like the man in the pale blue dress shirt getting his groove on.

I absolutely adore that commercial. I laugh every single time I see it. My other very favorite commerical is the Cheez-It commercial where the guy goes into the glass walled office and sits on the bag and causes a HUGE cheese-plosion. It just kills me every time!

An actor who wants to be a bartender? That’s turning a cliche on its ear.

Hey, off topic. First I have heard it, but egg radio just played a spot of Walter telling the cop that’s his blue sweater! Even Egg Radio loves Wil!
    Wil you’re a geek sensation.
This happy thought brought to you by Chaswell, the Happy.

Wanting to be a bartender is not a bad thing… I think I’m going to move up in the world to bartender from the coffee-version of Barista. I wonder if/when my local pub is reopening…

I’m a shill for my employer, but TBS.com has that Nextel ad online as part of a “Funniest Commercials of 2005” special we ran in December.

Since nobody else has nerded out completely yet (as opposed to the Fark thread for Dawn), I’ll take one for the team and say it:
“Dude, didn’t Guinan teach you ANYTHING?!?”

I’m a middle school teacher and am writing this post in class while my students are working on a project. Can you say, “worst teacher ever?”
I live a block and a half from the “Boston Bartending College” which is located in Connecticut oddly enough. So many of my friends have gone there to help pay their way through college. So few of them have actually become bartenders. But all of them have learned how to do the wine glass pyramid thing. So Wil, if you decide to realize this dream, make sure you have the wine glass pyramid DOWN PAT! Apparently it’s very important.

    I’ve drank with you.
Stick to the acting thing, ‘k?
–And if you want a great commercial, check out the one with the 2 brothers on the roof of their house, one is holding a rope and the other is about to jump off the side of the house, but looks into the other’s eyes and does that whole 2-fingers back and forth between the eyes lockdown thing… then jumps and the other brother goes flying off the roof with him.
    Lousy description, great commercial.

Oh, no doubt. That’s one of my favorite commercials.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one that thinks that commercial is hilarious! I laugh out loud everytime it comes on.

YES!!! I die laughing everytime I see that commercial. Truly amazing.
    *LoL*

Another amusing synchronicity: Salt-n-Pepa was the musical guest the night Patrick Stewart did SNL. I still recall his enthusiastic “And now: Saaaalt and PEPAAAAAH!”

    Bartending is overrated.
    I love that commercial, too.

The Nextel commercial is simply great.
I’m sure if you talked nicely to Lee, he’d let you bartend at Stars’ next event…

That commercial kills me. I’m hoping to find it online somewhere and load it to an iPod so I can watch it on demand.

I loved that commercial so much that I decided to be a complete nerd and put the video on my MySpace.
    Yeah, I know.

  18. dianna says:

    best commercial ever.

  19. Cassie says:

That commercial made me shoot Fresca out my nose the first time I saw it. I would rather watch that than most TV sitcoms.

That commercial is one laugh riot. I can picture trying to do something like that in the office. Basically, giving the virtual finger to the “man”, then proceed to dance like a little girl.

  21. Heather says:

That commercial is just joyful. I have laughed *hard* each and every time I’ve seen it.

Love the Nextel commercial. Just goes to show that ’80’s music, for the most part, still kicks some serious ass – no matter what the youngins say. “Ooh baby, baabayyy! B-baaabayyy, baabayyy! S-Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s here!” Love how the guy on the left clearly knows his dancing is uncool & very unsexy, but he doesn’t give a shit. He’s having too much fun. I love his commentaries on Vh-1 shows. He’s hilarious. I wish I could remember his name. Also like how the guy on the right is more quiet & subdued, trying to look sleek & sexy, like an exotic dancer. He has a long way to go but he has a dream.

That has got to be the best commercial I’ve seen (with the possible exception of commercials for Serenity) in well over a year. I desperately want to work in that office.

When I hear the Nextel commercial come on I stop whatever I’m doing and go into active-listening mode.

Bartending is fun, but it can be scary sometimes. I’ve posted a couple stories on my blog about it.
I’d rather act and make people laugh than shake martinis but I got to pay my bills.
    I love that commercial too!

I didn’t process that it was Salt ‘n’ Pepa until my mom was singing it one day– in the most dainty, hilarious way, I must add.
I think my mimicry is pretty good:

I was a bartender for 10 years (while I had ‘real’ jobs) – best job I ever had.
