50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

that’s why i said i relate

  • WWdN in Exile

On the way home from school today, Nolan said, "I think D&D Girl likes me."

"Oh?" I said, "Really?"

"Yeah," he said, "I think it’s because I cast a level three Charm spell on her."

There are few things more joyous for a parent than seeing yourself reflected back at you in your children, and these precious moments make all the sacrifices and challenges worthwhile.

Ha! Awesome. Of course, back when we played D&D, we’d have killed for any female to play.
Okay, maybe not your best friend’s annoying sister.

*grin* excellent on many levels. No pun intended šŸ™‚

I always wondered what those teen year conversations of “I think he/she likes me!! Um…now what?” were like.
Cuz I sure never had any.
    Oh well. No big loss.
For some of us, our biggest fear (or one of them anyway…) is that we’ll turn out like our parents. Hopefully, Ryan and Nolan have no such fears. We could use a few more like you in the world.

I may not know what its like when that happens now but it’s certainly something I hope happens when I have children someday. I feel happy for ya on this one. And happy for Nolan too, of course!

Charm Person is a *first* level spell. DUH. ;P

Kinda reminds me of this bar drinking shirt I have that says “Epic Staff” and then it has an arrow pointing down to basically you know where.. and I totally had this woman come up to me and ask me if I play world of warcraft.. granted I’m married….but I was shocked and slightly disturbed at the same time. Hot women actually play these games..it’s rare but it happens. I like to call it the X geek factor šŸ˜‰

Has anybody thought about the fact that the only third-level charm spell is bardic Charm MONSTER? šŸ™‚

But at level 3 its more powerful. DUH! ;P

If she plays D&D she just might be nerdy enough to read this blog too . . .

  17. krissbeth says:

“But at level 3 its more powerful. DUH! ;P”
Actually, it would be more powerful at Level 4 but only if you put your extra ability score point into charisma (bard/sorcerer) or intelligence (wizard) so the DC increases.
I… need to degeekify myself now. XD

Hey, I found this neat story about TNG. You’ve probably already read it, but I just though I’d share anyways.

Obviously, Nolan used a metamagic feat that caused Charm Person to occupy a third-level slot. It’s the only way to be sure.

  21. kristinalead says:
    26 September, 2007 at 8:47 am

Geez, where were you guys when I wanted to play? All of the boys who played where/when I went to school were so secretive, they would not let any girls anywhere near them or their sacred D&D, and would avoid us like the plague! Damn…

  22. Craig Steffen says:

From the Star Trek oral history page, a quote by Denise Crosby:
When did I think this was going to fly? Once I got on the set and I saw the other actors. You had people like LeVar Burton and Wil Wheaton, [who was] probably the most famous because of Stand by Me. Then, of course, Patrick Stewart gets on board and you feel like the whole Shakespearean company has entered the room.
    Awesome!

  23. angie k says:

Geek! šŸ™‚ Dude, Nolan is awesome.
I agree with kristinalead, all the guys in middle and high school who played D&D were secretive about it. I never found a game to join even though I really wanted to.
These geek moments you share about your kids make me all happy. Geeks in training ftw!

  24. smarks says:
    26 September, 2007 at 10:39 am

Yeah, that’s pretty cool. But charm spells don’t exist in the real world, and at some point Nolan will realize that D&D Girl, or someone else, will like him, without the effect of a charm spell. Now THAT will be cool.

  25. alikitty619 says:

    That was WAY too cute.

    Flashback to 1985:
Geek boys say to cute geek girl to be “well… we do have this dwarf that no one wants to play anymore…”
    and it was all over.

Doesnt he know that Evokers get all the action?

  28. Matthew Cox says:
    26 September, 2007 at 1:30 pm

I guess she failed her saving throw? Or did it not matter after Nolan won initiative?
And on a mostly unrelated tangent, isn’t initiative the D&D teen’s equivalent to root? (as in: the only thing that mattered to us back then was getting initiative, but now we just want root…)

I’m so glad my wife’s a gamer too. I posted this for her since we’re going to try to start up a family soon but thought all geeks with your own families would love to see this eBay savvy mom in action. She’s got a GREAT sense of humor.

Doesn’t this sound a little like the cartoon you were working on – Kyle and Rosemary? Weird how life parallels art….

~grin~ My freshman year of highschool, I started dating a friend of my cousin’s. As soon as word got out among HIS friends, they all converged on me during morning break. “We remember you. You used to correct our X-Men continuity.” (pause for group nod) “You’re gaming with us Friday.”
    “I’m what?”
“Playing Dungeons & Dragons at my house. Bring chips. Here’s the player’s handbook–look through it, see what you like. Kyle has study hall with you; you two can roll up a character then. If you have questions, grab one of us in the hall.”
Thenceforth, nothing but a geek would do for me. šŸ˜€
Thank you, Wil, for sharing these moments.
    And happy hunting to Nolan!
