50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

the stranger

I saw this piece from Nick Derington on electroplasmosis, and fell in love with it immediately. Rather than go on and on about all the reasons why, I’ll just let the work speak for itself.

Go look at the biggest version of it, and take some time to discover all the different things that are going on in this piece. Trust me. And look at his other work while you’re there, because it’s brilliant.

And before I go do all the real life stuff I didn’t do while I was working on NUMB3RS this week, I hope you’ll all join me in wishing WWdN reader Lucas a happy birthday, filled with brains in jars and mysterious aliens approaching the diner.

Ectoplasmosis, is a bit of an odd place to visit. Thanks for sharing the link.
My daughter Stephanie turned 20 today. 🙂
Now I wonder who Lucas is.

Nick is definitely a great artist with some really cool and unusual ideas – I like that in a person…
    Happy Birthday Lucas!!
Now where do I sign up so I can see a “happy birthday to me” from Wil Wheaton on his blog?!

    Hello Wil,
this is really great artwork by Nick Derington. I like it very much although I’m not really into comic artwork.
I’ll take the opportunity (*smiles*) to thank you for your absolutely wonderful blog. I love to read about your life and work!
All the best for you and your family, friends and loved ones!!!

Wow! Impressive science fiction art work there. One day I hope to reach the ability to draw even close to that level.
    Happy Birthday Lucas!

Wow. Not often I stumble across a pile of work I’d somehow missed that’s this cool.
What’s he been doing in 2007? Anyone know? His site’s kind of outdated.

If you’re fond of the noir/sci fi combo of that picture can I point you towards Midway City? It’s an RPG I’m fond of and did some of the play testing for.

Firstly, happy birthday, Lucas – may your day be filled with fun and happiness! ^_^
And I do have to say that Mr. Derrington’s piece is very compelling – it’s full of hints and innuendos that suggest a fascinating backstory and piques the viewer’s curiosity. Thanks for sharing!

That is so cool. I keep expecting Sam Spade to show up. I wonder if the brain is the detective’s colleague, or is he an informant, or a client?

…or is it some odd-ball ‘payment’ by a former client?

Hey Wil. Just noticed you no longer have a link to your Netscape submissions on your page. Are you no longer doing that? What’s up?
    And definitely a cool image.

Sorry. Nevermind. I just figured out that “Propeller” is the same thing. I guess. At least it accepts my Netscape login etc.

The short guy has his finger off the trigger. That means he isn’t ready to fire it. But then why is he crouched over like that? Either he lost a contact lens or the aliens are after him. I bet he is a dick, because the guy drinking coffee doesn’t seem in too much of hurry to get out of there. The brain, who is obviously the coffee guy’s partner, is making a suggestion that they might want leave very soon.

Who wants to bet that at least one of Lucas’ parents are Star Wars fans? 🙂
My birthday is in November, by the way.

Happy birthday Lucas! I’ll be joining the ranks of thirty-somethings next Monday (the 5th), so you’re not the only one getting old…
This is some really cool stuff! Danke for finding it and turning us on to it, Wil!

Ummm, is Lucas the writer on Numb3rs that reads your blog? Just wonderin’ is all….
