Scalzi sez . . .
I asked my pal John Scalzi, author of The Ghost Brigade, The Android’s Dream, The Sagan Diary, and other awesome books, if he’d read The Happiest Days of Our Lives, and give me a pull quote if he liked it.
He says, “Wil gives lie to the idea that there are no second acts in American lives. He’s on his second act now — as a writer — and he’s doing it without a net, because he’s let us watch him start from zero. It’s been hellaciously impressive to witness. I can’t wait to see what he writes next.”
I guess he liked it!

I’ve never met Scalzi, but I’ve had conversations with him on his blog. Like you, he genuinely seems to be good people.
The great reviews and comments are sure stacking up!
It’s not every day you get to prove F. Scott Fitzgerald wrong! :0)
I’m going to be a bit contrarian here and note that he never actually endorses the book (or your writing) as any good! But hey, it’s still a great quote, and it’s also quite a bit nicer than anything John Scalzi has ever said about me or anyone I know…
Shit. You’re right, dbol39. Now I feel pretty stupid.
He showcased me on my first writing success — I was just as thrilled. Strange that a balding Ohioan can make me feel all shiny just by acknowledging me. But it’s your fault, Wil. I hadn’t heard of him before your blog. You sponsored me into the Scalzi fanboi club. 😉
Wil, John may not have come right out and endorsed your book, but if he didn’t like it, I doubt he would have given you a pull quote. I don’t see him wanting his name associated with something he didn’t think was quality writing. He’s pretty honest that way and has been since the beginning (I’ve been reading Scalzi for almost ten years).
I suppose I focused on the words, “It’s been hellaciously impressive to witness.” and took that as a compliment to Wil…
And, importantly, he discusses on his site in great detail why he doesn’t usually do what he did for you. That makes it all the sweeter!
