50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

the joy of mutually geeking out

  • WWdN in Exile

While at the Child’s Play dinner, I told Twitter:

Wiltweet

Without knowing about my message to Twitter, Major Nelson then told Twitter:

Nelsontweet

Heh. Awesome. We ended up geeking out at each other a whole bunch after dinner was over, and I’ll eventually be on his podcast, which will rule.

The Child’s Play dinner was great. We raised just over $225,000 for the charity, and had a ridiculously good time while we did it. The guys who won the auction to sit with me were really cool, fun to talk to, and totally one of us. I won’t link them, in case they want to remain anonymous, but I do want to publicly thank them for being cool and friendly, and helping bring happiness to a lot of kids.

When you tweeted that, I first thought “What the hell is Larry Hagman doing at Child’s Play?” I’m not enough an XBox nerd to know who you were talking about. I am however enough of a TV nerd to think of “I Dream of Jeannie”.

I’m trying to imagine the dinner conversation…*with a bit of humour here, and thanks to Chris Farley & Paul McCartney*
Contest Winners: “Remember when you were on Star Trek?”
    Wil: “Yeah.”
    Contest Winners: “That was awesome.”
    Wil: “Yeah, it really was.”
Contest Winners: “Do you remember, when you were in Stand By Me, and you found the dead body by the train tracks…”
    Wil: “Yep.”
Contest Winners: “Was it really dead?”
    Wil: “No, not really.”
    Contest Winners: “Awesome!”

    Wil,
I posted a comment on Monday, Dec 10, and would really hope to hear as to whether an autographed paper copy of _The Happiest Days of Our Lives_ is available. I would like to purchase it for my fiance, Tim, who is a devoted fan. Please write when you can. Ideally, I’d love to give it to him by Christmas. Thank you for all your hard charity work!
    Another devoted fan,
    Adrian

I laughed at the mutual geeking when I saw the tweets coming in, I have to say. Seattle’s one big geeky love fest, isn’t it?

Thanks for attending, being awesome, and donating your time and self to the charity.
    P.S. Madden sucks!

Oy. I am old enough and out of touch enough that I thought you meant Larry Hagman. Jesus. I need to get out more.

Add me to the “Why is Larry Hagman at Child’s Play?” crowd. Turning in geek card now.

ajane88: The answer to your question is here: http://www.monolithpress.com/order.php
What it says is: “Unfortunately, autographed copies are currently not available.”
“The softcover of The Happiest Days of Our Lives is not being offered in a signed edition, but there will be a signed, numbered, limited edition hardback of The Happiest Days of Our Lives available soon. However, if you meet Wil at a personal appearence, he will be happy to sign your book, your Wesley Crusher Mint In Box, and even your dog.”
The hardback copies have already sold out, so I would suggest purchasing a regular paperback and possibly trying to obtain an autograph at a book signing or convention at a later date. Best of luck.

I can explain why Major Nelson was there. Jeannie wanted him out of the house while she tidied up for his promotion to colonel, and thought Seattle in 2007 would keep him occupied for the 10 seconds it would take to get it done.

Add me to the laughing at the mutual geeking crowd. I saw those tweets and I was really wondering if it was planned, or at least done with knowledge of each others. It crossed my mind that it would be much more amusing if that wasn’t the case and, well, it is.
I’m glad you had a great time, and a great amount was raised for it!

Har! I was there, sort of. I saw both tweets come through on my rss feed since I follow both of you. I figured you guys did that on purpose.
Great story! Glad to hear Child’s Play was so successful.

You also sat with my friend and former co-worker Michael from Ninja Burger! He told me about how great it was to sit at the same table. 🙂

I gave up any hope of being anonymous a long time ago, despite my ninja predilections. It was a pleasure sitting with evil twin Wil, et al.
