I bought myself this bottle of Oban when I started my current writing project. I put it on my desk, and looked at it every day from when I started breaking the story, right up until I finished the last bit of rewriting, just a few minutes ago.
I’m having just one finger, neat. I’m sure it’s the occasion talking, but this is the nicest glass of scotch whisky I’ve had in a very long time.

I’m more of a champagne man myself. Congratulations on finishing the project. Oh and great blog.
Wil, you’ve inspired me to go out and replace my now empty bottle of Glenmorangie with a new one of Laphroaig. Glad to hear the good news about the new writing project.
Just like Kurt, I can recommend going to Oban as well. I did the distillery tour which was really cool-but like youth being wasted on the young, whiskey is wasted on the wendy–I couldn’t finish mine.
Congrats on finishing your project!
My hub says the best scotch he’s ever tasted is Glen Grant, which you can only get in Scotland, although I think you might be able to get it in the duty free shop at the airport in London. Our friend brings it back for him once a year, and he nurses that bottle until it’s time for the new one.
It’s NOT SCOTCH. Man Americans need educating! As a Scot can I please request that you call it Whisky, unless of course it is Irish when it is Whiskey with an E. Never Scotch.
Oban is a good choice though, although I am more of a Laphroaig drinker myself :)Congrats Will and enjoy!
The last bottle of Scotch I bought was Balvenie 12. I’ll try the Oban for my next bottle.
Congratulations on completing your first draft. Good luck on the next one. And the one after that. I look forward to reading/watching/listening to it.
++ Laphroaig. Congrats!
Congratulations! That is a great way to celebrate as well.
Whisky? Me, I call it Malt, but being a Bloody Colonial ™, and will defer to laurathered from the Old Coutry.
I will, however, point out that Mr. W spells his first name with only one “W”. :^)
And “Country” usually has an “n”.
*Sigh*
So, um, do you mean you’re drunk?
Do you, like, feel strange, but also good?
Just wondering is all…
Mmmm.. that looks yummy.
I actually partook in a Glenmorangie Port Cask Single Malt this weekend… very smooth! But, because i was sharing it (which is the best way to have a scotch) we drank a little more than a finger! 🙂
Cheers!!
“Congratulations! Maybe you can chase it with a Guiness.”
Why chase it with an irish drink? Stick some more traditional Scottish fayre down your throught and have some Irn Bru 😉
As for putting water in your whisky thats like asking for the soy sauce in a Chinese restuarant. An insult to the chef! It should be enjoyed and savoured as the distiller made it 🙂
Congrats Wil. I recommend that you take a Lagavulin 16 year for a spin if you like the Oban.
That is one of the best feelings in the world!!! (Finishing the project, I mean, not the drinking, though I imagine the drinking does not totally suck.) Many hearty congratulations!!
I am on a crazy deadline for my 2009 book. You have inspired me to seek out a particularly nice bottle of wine for the magic day…..
well, somebody already beat me to the whole ‘it’s not scotch, it’s whisky’ thing, so i’ll say simply: whisky? blaaaah. how can anyone drink that stuff, the smell is enough to put me off
I’ve been to Oban (before that health food store, I think). It’s a lovely place – Victorian seaside resort.
I’ve also had the scotch, and that’s like a day at the seaside!
I can’t endorse Oban enthusiastically enough. It’s unquestionably the finest thing I’ve ever put in my mouth…uh,errr.
