50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

announcement 5 of 4 (math is hard!)

  • Books

According to Eventful, 84 people have joined a demand for me to come to San Diego. I usually come down for Comic-con, but with the eleventy billion people down there every year, it’s not exactly the most intimate environment for a reading and signing. So I’ve been looking for a more reasonable venue, where I won’t have to compete for attention with half-naked cosplaying MILFs.

So I talked to the Awesome Patrol at my favorite indie bookstore in San Diego, and I’m coming to Mysterious Galaxy Books on May 3 for a reading, signing, and geekfest.

I had a whole bunch of fun the last time I came to Mysterious Galaxy with Just a Geek. There was a great crowd, and it’s a fantastic store. I’m really looking forward to doing this, and I think it’s appropriate that Mysterious Galaxy will be the first official in-store signing on Wil Wheaton’s Happiest Tour of My Life, which I’ve just decided to launch and may cancel due to lack of interest at future date.

Mysterious Galaxy has a page with details and book ordering information, and I’ve also created an event page at Eventful that doesn’t have ordering information, but does have a spiffy picture of me, Wil Wheaton.

I think I’m the only person thus far to put in for a reading in South Carolina, but I’m working on converts! Maybe DragonCon could invite you?

That’s it! Someone is gonna have to hold me back from heading to San Diego wearing my Princess Leia bikini.
(Meh, can’t go anyway. I’m going to wear my bikini at home and compete for no one’s attention.)

I was excited when I got the Eventful email for this! Thanks Wil! 🙂

Wil Wheaton’s Happiest Tour of My Life
I quite like that title. I’m sure there will be plenty of interest and I think the need to cancel further dates will be quite unnecessary. Have Fun!! 🙂

Yay!!! I’m dancing with excitement. See you in May, Mr. Wheaton. and you’re right: the store is great.

Wil, thanks for finally coming down to SD. The PAX keynote was fantastic (and I’ve forced everyone my/our age to listen to it) and I’m looking forward to it.
That being said, you should still come to Comic-Con. You were on a book panel right after Dancing Barefoot came out and you were just ON. I mean you were definitely the funniest, most lively person on that panel. So yeah, please do it again.

“but does have a spiffy picture of me, Wil Wheaton.”
In my head, you say that like Bender. And I now have reason to look forward to May.

I’d love to come to the SD signing if the happiest tour doesn’t stop in Vegas. But come on, what kind of happy tour would it be if it didn’t stop in Vegas?

Redleader23: In my head, I say it like Bender, too. That’s awesome.

I do find it necessary to point out that Portland has a ton of Demands, also. 🙂 but that’s just the selfish part of me that doesn’t take into consideration the whole 24-hours-in-a-day thing and just wants to see Wil at a book signing!

    OOOoooh!
That’s almost worth getting plane tix to SD. Seriously!
(And math *is* hard. Which is why I’m a biologist.)

    PleasePleasePlease?
You gonna do something with BookPeople in Austin, again?
    Maybe with Alamo, too (again)?
    You got 64 demands, here.
Hee. I just looked over at the twitter update:
Nolan talking to F-f-erris as Jimmy Stewart. Too cute!

Awesome. MG is my favoritest bookstore ever – I take my daughter there for her Goth fix and I get to browse the SF.
I’m sure you’ll get a huge turnout. You really ought to come down to San Diego more often – have you been here since the half marathon?

Eventful? I got three words for you, Mr. Wil Wheaton:
At. Lan. Ta. (said in my head with a heapin’ helpin’ of Southern ‘tude)
84 people draw you to San Diego, but you still refuse to come see us? We’re starting to take it personally.

Glad to hear your coming south. The weather is better, the smog is better and the fans here ROCK!!!!

  20. LaurenC says:

Oh Man. 8 Days later and I will actually BE in your country. And even in that state, although in SF. But I totally would have stopping sightseeing to fly down there for this. Darnit.
Please please please sign some hardcovers and leave them for future sale just like you did with JAG. That’s how I got my copy….a signed copy of THDOOL would expand the set.

Uh, someone already said this, but Portland please. No seriously, please. I’m getting pathetic here. We never get conventions or anything. Please.

WASHINGTON DC PLEASE. THAT IS ALL. THANK YOU, THE MANAGEMENT.
(I need a signed first/first of “Happiest”, and there’s no way I can get to CA with a two year old in tow, so the mountain will have to come to Mohammed. Bring the cosplaying MILFs with you, please.)

You are right about the San Diego Comic Con- I can’t even handle going there on Saturdays anymore, it’s a madhouse. I am looking forward to the Phoenix Comic Con next weekend- my sister lives in Mesa so I will just drive out for the weekend. Any excuse to wear my “expendable” shirt…

Are you allowed to say “math is hard”? Barbie got in trouble for saying, “Math class is tough”“, and she had to shut up permanently after that…
How many times am I allowed to “demand” you for a city? As many email addresses as I have? *wink wink*

There’s still 12 of us in Lauderdale that would love for you to flap your wings and fly across the continent for a little visit. Besides… I still owe you a Guiness. And we have a nice beach. With beautiful women. And the Swimming Hall of Fame, and lot’s of shopping malls.

84 people will get you to San Diego?
You’ve got 143 demands from Minneapolis!
And if you come 4th of July weekend we’ve also got an awesome convention going on!!

  29. Wil says:
    19 January, 2008 at 11:23 am

Well, San Diego is a 2 hour drive for me, so the number of demanders isn’t as important to me, from a business point of view, as it would be to travel farther.
I also learned when I went to Montreal in 2005 that all the people who demand won’t show up, so the farther I travel, the greater the demand has to be to account for the 30% or so who don’t come to the event.
    Still love you, though, Minneapolis.

  30. Scott T says:

We will get you here some day…
